Guest Chris_Benoit_23
I just got GAB 2004..Here's my review.. United States Championship - Fatal Fourway Elimination Match John Cena vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Renee Dupree vs. Booker T John Cena pins Booker T to retain the United States Championship Good way to start off the show, although I kind of expected the cruisers to curtain jerk. Can't really say much for Cena's rap outside of the GI Bro mention. It gotten to the point now where I can finish his lines for him half the time. The match itself was pretty good. This is the best I've seen Cena look in awhile. He wasn't going through the motions like he has been since he turned babyface last year. Actually everyone looked pretty motivated out there except RVD. When he did that tope con hilo over the top, it looked so damn lazy. Maybe he was stoned for this one or something. I've come to the conclusion that Cena needs a new finisher though. It doesn't even look like a Death Valley Driver anymore. More like a standing fireman's carry takeover. The initial pick up is basically the only effort he puts into it. The rest is just the guy lightly flipping himself off the shoulders. Regardless of that fact, no one looked particularly weak here and this did more for Cena's run as champ than anything before it, including the two singles matches with Dupree. Charlie Haas vs. Luther Reigns Luther Reigns pins Charlie Haas Oh man, this shit was absolutely brutal. I feel so bad for Charlie Haas right now. Shelton Benjamin is over on RAW...well, not getting pushed right now, but still a prominent part of the midcard. Haas, however, got the shorter straw, and is stuck on Smackdown feuding with all of the bad, bad wrestlers. There was a glimmer of hope when he was teaming with Rico, although it was never anything permanent. However, they no longer have the belts, and no one gives a shit about him. I've always liked Haas, but I've always liked Benjamin more. However, Haas definitely does not deserve this. Luther Reigns is a waste of space. He's fine as long as he's pushing Kurt Angle around like the little bitch that he is. He has no character, no motivation on the show, and isn't all that good in the ring. Charlie Haas, on the other hand, is perfectly capable of succeeding on Smackdown. His reward for being young and talented is a six-minute squash match at the hands of the amazing Luther Reigns. How ****ing perfect. Cruiserweight Championship Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio Rey Mysterio pins Chavo Guerrero to retain the Cruiserweight Championship Maybe it's the fact that everything preceding this was either run of the mill or just plain bad. Maybe it was the stupid booking of the cruiserweight title in the past month. Maybe it was the lack of proper build to this. For some reason, I couldn't get into this. It was technically sound and the best match of the night, but I couldn't get emotionally involved with it. These two just seem to keep ending up against each other for one reason or another, but they're not really putting the emphasis over the fact that both of them are passionate about being champion. Then there was the selling. Rey was fine selling his knee, but Chavo's arm selling was spotty in places. When he put the half crab on Rey, he should've switched arms. There's a lot of little things I noticed here that irked me. These two have more or less been feuding since February, but they didn't really play off the experience they have against one another. I tend to like seeing that sort of thing. Still a great match and all, but I dunno. Just couldn't get into it. Kenzo Suzuki vs. Billy Gunn Kenzo Suzuki pins Billy Gunn So, I know this match was just absolutely awesome, but I actually fell asleep during it. Billy Gunn should never, EVER, be the one carrying in a match. EVER. Yet that's clearly what happened, because Kenzo Suzuki just sucks that damn bad. He is horrible in the ring, and he tries to get over by grunting a lot and acting angry. You want a recap of how this match went? Let's just leave it at this: At one point in the match, Kenzo Suzuki held Gunn as if he was going for some totally kick ass move. It ended up being a 'vertical' suplex. Sable vs. Torrie Wilson Sable pins Torrie Wilson So, did they **** up that spot on purpose, or are they just that bad? They're probably that bad, and so the announcers had to cover for their bullshit. What an absolute abomination of a match. What the **** is the point? Torrie and Sable suck horribly. They have run their course in WWE, shown everyone their titties, and now have no purpose with the company. It's always nice when two women who don't wrestle can get a wrestling match on PPV, and actual wrestlers that are actually good get relegated to Velocity. Hardcore Holly vs. Mordecai Mordecai pins Hardcore Holly What an incredible storyline they came up with going into this match. You have mini-hoss Mordecai and Hardcore Holly in a match on Smackdown. They, however, are brawling all over the building, and their match never really happens. So hey, let's just give them a PPV match to settle their 'grudge.' This match was bad in every sense of the word. While it wasn't actually as bad as the Suzuki/Gunn match, it still was a whole lot of suck. Mordecai acts like he's seven feet tall, and tries to go around squashing his opponents, but he's only like 6'5". Hardcore Holly, well, we all know how good Hardcore Holly is at putting together good matches. There really was only one good thing about this match, and that was the Razor's Edge. WWE Championship - Texas Bullrope Match Eddie Guerrero vs. John Bradshaw Layfield John Bradshaw Layfield touches all four ringposts to become the new WWE Champion WHY?!?!?! WHY?!?!?! WHY!?!?!?!? Okay, let me get this out of the way now. This match didn't suck. They were awkward at first with the bullrope, but once they settled into a flow, this wasn't that bad. Okay, time to rant. First off, what in the name of **** was up with the lights? The green light on the top right turnbuckle was blinking because the bulb was dying. There were several instances where JBL or Eddy would touch a turnbuckle and it didn't light up. At one point, Eddy hit a turnbuckle and the OPPOSITE one lit up. Secondly, if the rules stated that any body part making contact would count, then why weren't they lighting up when one of the two was being thrown into corners? I remember JBL ramming Eddy's head into a turnbuckle and the light didn't go up. Before anyone says that the person had to be trying to make contact, think about the ****ing finish. Bradshaw wasn't TRYING to hit the final turnbuckle. Eddy ran him into it. A little ****ing consistency would've been nice. Giving credit where credit is due, Bradshaw busted his ass here and this was far and away his best match ever. The problem is that his best match ever is only *** at the most. That is not befitting of a goddamned world champion. Eddy, Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, **** even the Big Show spent the last two years producing great matches at the top of the card and making that belt mean something, but now this bastard gets to tout it around. Ridiculous. Undertaker vs. The Dudleys Undertaker pins D-Von Dudley; kills Paul Bearer A ****ing angle is my main event? I SPIT ON YOUR BOOKING!!! The only entertaining thing about this trash was Paul Bearer. His screaming and all his mannerisms were hilarious for all the wrong reasons. I laughed my ass off everytime they showed him in that "coffin." Other than that, this was garbage. You knew Taker was winning and after everyone took off, you knew he was going to pull that lever. Horribly predictable and contrived. I didn't mind this nonsense ending the show. A shitty show ending on a shitty note? Seems fitting if you ask me. The actual wrestling was horrible. The angle was horrible. This whole show was horrible. WCW at its WORSE wasn't this bad.
