The Icon 152
Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Well first of all REA is every bit as good as it looked in the trailer. The bad? well the trailer gives practially everything away if you've seen this you've sen the film. Still if you liked the first one you will like this one so go into it with low(er) expectations & you will enjoy it a lot. It starts off with 4 seperate stories Alice (Milla Jovovich) is having flashbacks to the first film (to explain how the city was over run) & is trying to escape the city at the same time. Meanwhile Captain Henderson (Dave Nichols) & his friend / cop Jill Valatine (Sienna Guillory) along with reporter Terri Morales (Sandrine Holt) are trying to stay alive. Also trying to stay alive are Umbrella guerilla fighters Carlos (Oded Fehr), Nicholai (Zack Ward), & Yuri (Stefan Hayes) who have ben betrayed by their leader Major Cain (Thomas Kretschmann). Meanwhile S.T.A.R.S members & fellow survivor L.J. (Mike Epps) hole themselves up in what they hope is a fortress. Meanwhile Umbrella head honcho Dr. Ashford (Jared Harris) is rescued from the city but a car recsuing his Daughter Angela (Sophie Vavasseur) crashes & she is roaming the city alone. Betraying his Umbrella co-workers Ashford contacts Alice, Jill, Henderson, Terri, L.J., Carlos, Yuri & Nicholai & promises them a helicoptor rescue if they find his Daughter but can he be trusted? Major Kain decides this is the best time to test his new 'Ultimate weapon The Nemesis (Matthew G. Taylor & Eric Mabius) so he unleashes him on the city. Nemesis is not a Zombie in fact he kills zombies just as happily as he does humans. Unleashing the Nemisis first on The S.T.A.R.S. members & then on the city Cain wants no survivors as he plans to cover up the 'plauge' with a nuclear explosion. Thats the basic plot & while it reads as a bit confusing with so many chracters it plays really simple & is easy to follow. The Zombie action is good but they are relagated somewhat to the background so Nemesis can hog the screen. Also present & correct are the lickers & Dogs from the games & first film. The film has several outstanding action sequences one in particular in a School full of Zombie Kids is particually creepy but the plot is often forgotten as an excuse to kill as many things (Both Alive & Dead) as possible. Indeed surplus characters not mentioned above (Preists, more Umbrella Guerilla fighters etc) are introduced & killed in seconds. If you like The Games, The first film, Zombie films in general you will love this film & despite ist minor flaws I myself loved it & Reccomend it to anybody who asks. Guest Peter
The trailer looks okay but the first film is among the worst I've ever seen, I don't know how that stupid blonde bitch got the main role, and returns for the second one as well! Evil Gringo 279
Whoa resentment! What did Milla Johavic (sp?) do to you Peter in a past life? Although I don't hate the first one as much as you do Peter I agree it could have been alot better and the baddie should have been more then a sodding licker. I seriously hope this one is better and lets face it Jill Valentine is hot in this and she may from what I've heard in teh next films be the main character like in the game. Not a chance of that happening as Milla has already signed up for part 3.

Guest HSM
I really enjoyed this film and it sets up for the 3rd excellently. I just hope it doesnt take as long for the 3rd one to come out as it did for the 2nd.

Evil Gringo 279
Yeah I know she's signed up for the third Kurtmark but the fact is with the plot happenings that went in the second I think she may be part of Umberellas plan now and Jill will be the heroine... Anyone palyed Code Veronica? Remeber the female character in the game who wigs out and transforms? Remember her name? Alice. Thats what I reckon is gonna happen, Alice goes bad Code V style and Jill steps up as the heroine.
The Icon 152
I think Alice may start out bad, but I also thing much like The nemesis she will return to the side of good during the third part. Incidently the Third part is set not during CVX but rather after that game, The characters of Claire & Chris Redfield may be in the game as well. Guest Feenix
I saw the film on Saturday. I absolutely loved it. It was much better than the first, which was mainly due to the fact they had a much better budget. If you buy the first movie on DVD and listen to the director's commentary, they compain about the budget every two seconds. The good part is that they weren't trying to be loyal to the game's plot. I think if they tried to tie in the movie story with Resi 3 then it would've gone very badly... The casting wasn't the best i've ever seen. There was an unconvincing Jill Valentine, (who should have brown hair but for some reason had black hair.) Carlos and Nicholai aren't much like they are in Resi 3. And Yuri should be Michail but whatever. That isn't to say I didn't like the movie though. In fact it's one of the best i've ever seen. It's got everything you could want; a trip through an undead graveyard. A decision to split up inside a school full of zombies.... even the required token black guy. And you can tell the scriptwriters are fans because of the part where Alice is running along the corridor getting shot by the helicopter with a machine gun. And then gets stopped by some guards, and drops her gun, falls down and shoots them on the way... The exact same thing happens in Code Veronica. All in all a very well done movie. However the casting could have been better. Can't wait for the next one.

Guest MillionLiraMan
Resident Evil: Apocalypse I'm not going to give away massive plot spoilers without warning here (apart from who some of the main characters are, don't read the paragraph beginning 'I did have some other minor gripes' if you really want to know absolutely nothing about the film), but I will say what I thought of the film of course! This was a film which started out incredibly well and ended up disappointing me a bit. Really well presented, the special effects actually looked good rather than the usual really badly fake CGI stuff, the Nemesis looked great (and the way it said 'S.T.A.R.S.' was spot on as well) and the casting of Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine was inspired as she couldn't have looked any more the part. You also had Carlos Olivera and Nikolai (sp?) from the games, while they'd started it out by taking up from where the last film, which I thought was great in spite of the reviews it received, had left off previously. The story to the last film was very solid so it looked as if this would follow in the same way as the story was all there to be used from the games, with the characters and plot headstart this film had it promised to be fantastic and was living up to that promise at first. Ultimately however, it just didn't live up to what it promised at the beginning. The story was not completely in line with the games, as was to be expected due to the inclusion of Alice, Milla Jovovich's character in the films, but there were other tinkerings with the plot of the games that either made no sense or disrupted the flow of the film. The ending was especially disappointing. There is one particular turn of events, I won't say what but you'll know it when you see it, which is quite frankly a bit wank. One other thing that wasn't in the first film but was present here was the inclusion of a token black guy, which did irk me. Why in every film now, no matter what the nature of the film, do film-makers insist on casting the token black guy who's supposed to provide the comic relief, which actually means not being actively funny, just talking all that jive talk from 'the street' which we're supposed to find funny in itself? Can't there be another way of inducing comic relief in a film without feusting this lazy, unimaginative and more importantly unfunny shite upon us time after time? Surely black people must also find this seemingly compulsory role within films these days incredibly patronising? Maybe Seabass has some views on this. I did have some other minor gripes, one being that I would have liked to have seen more of Carlos and Jill fighting their own battles without Alice stepping in for them quite so much. People who know the games know Jill and Carlos and want to see them doing stuff as well, so although naturally they did feature in the action scenes, they could have been more involved than they were. The other gripe was that not enough time was spent at the police station. The police station is one of the main areas, in fact probably the main setting, which stands out from the games. At times, despite plot changes made for the film, there were also sections where it seemed like the film-makers were desperate to pack in as much stuff from the games as possible and this came off as looking a bit forced in places. I won't spoil bits of the film by saying where I particularly noticed this, but if you know the games and see the film, you'll know what I mean. That's not a major complaint, just something I noticed. This wasn't a really bad film by any means, in fact it was very entertaining, but the thing is that with it being a Resident Evil film it was never going to be awful. What is frustrating is that it could have been and initially did promise to be so much better than it was, which is why I won't be giving it a higher rating. If you're not familiar with the games, you might like this more, but if you are then you might well feel the same way about it that I did. I'll give this film 7/10. Oh yeah, one more thing, Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine is hot, which is not the same thing as saying that Jill Valentine is hot! Someone else posted that earlier so I thought to clear up what I thought of that! SPOILERS I thought the bit where the Nemesis turned good was ridiculous and went a long way to ruining the film. I also think that the Alice character, as I sort of said before, is taking over too much. It was like Jill and Carlos could hardly ever do anything without Alice having the last word. The fact that in an evacuation situation they stopped everything to make Alice and the Nemesis fight made no sense either, as neither did the end where the four of them returned to pick up Alice. I know by the nature of the fact that it's a Resident Evil film it sounds crap to say it's too far-fetched, but how could two known suspects, a black 'street' guy and a girl trick Umbrella security? That was a bit wank, not as much as the Nemesis turning good, but it wasn't good. Anyone curious about the packing bits of the game into the film comment I made, I especially noticed this during the film when the Nemesis and Alice first fought, where the Nemesis comes after her by crashing through the police station. I would also have liked to have seen Jill and Carlos fight the Nemesis as well, it seemed like it was all about Alice but for fans of the game you might have expected to see more than Jill firing a few shots from distance at the Nemesis and then being told to go by Alice. Alice having extra abilities is also taking over the films in a way, what was good about the games and the first film was that it was about ordinary people fighting against the odds. It didn't really feel like that in this film once Alice started fighting in the church and talked about being enhanced to Jill. In the next film I'd like to see Jill and Carlos as the heroine and hero, maybe bringing in Leon Kennedy and Claire and Chris Redfield as well. Um there was a token black guy in the first one, he got sliced and diced by the grid remember, he wasnt in it long but long enough to provide me with an ew moment. I am a huge Zombie film fan, and i thought the first film was great not as good as it could of been, fave character from the first film was Rain, how much of a hard woman was she, I so wanted to be like her and I was 21 at the time. Having not seen the second one yet because my cinema is shit, but i will and i can pretty much guess that im gonna love it, not just because of the RE franchise but because because they have an ongoing storyline unlkie most zombie films that begin and end in one film Edited October 13, 2004 by Taki
Guest MillionLiraMan
I didn't think of the black guy in the first film (played by Colin Salmon) as a token black guy, nor the other guy Kurtmark alluded to from the second film who first appears with Jill Valentine. Their characters actually had a role to play within the film and as such were valid characters connected to the storyline who just happened to be black. The main black guy in the second film though was a token black guy, just there to speak all that 'street' talk which is somehow supposed to be funny, when it's just annoying. He doesn't actually add anything important or interesting to the film, he's just there doing that and getting on my tits. That's the token black guy role I mean, as for the other black guys in the two films, I thought they were fine, they were minor characters who contributed a bit to the action and story of the films.
