I was talking with Allie today and the upcoming Backlash match between Shawn Michales and Hogan Vs. Hassan and Daivari came up. this got me wondering, is Hogan worth the ring time anymore?

Surely they could have done better by giving a young up and comer who is actually able to work a match a shot as since his recent surgery Hogan is now incapable of doing a simple legdrop, which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't his finisher.

I am not saying Hogan doesn't deserve respect for what he DID in the past, but now he's just clinging on and trying to work many years past his prime which is frankly getting embarrassing, i think he'd be better off going down the Ric Flair route and becoming a manager as he does still have the Charisma and name recognition to work the mic and get someone over who is lacking the mic skills but is good at the actual in ring part, like Lesnar was with Paul Heyman. I feel that this is part of an ongoing problem of mis using talent , but rather than not giving a push to a great worker, they are giving a push to someone who can not work a match purely for the nostalgia pops which i for one am sick and tired of.

what do you all think? is he worth the ring time?

hmmm interest point. (Firstly how long til beltmark jumps in to defend the Hulkster?! )

Anyway, I am torn here cos as a fan of wrestling (and i mean wrestling not entertainment) i would much prefer to see the spot given to someone who can really work. But from the wwe point of view you can see why they do it. Give me London or ultimo dragon anyday but when a typical wwe crowd would sit in silence it makes financial sense to give the time to a man who can get the whole arena on it's feet simply by holding his hand to his ear. So i don't blame them one bit. But it can put off the hardcore fans. I know i for one started switching off when they did the whole thing with austin a year or so ago. He comes in on that damn quad and drinks a beer etc but all i saw was a waste of 20/30 mins of a 2 hour program. That's too much time for me on a non wrestling match. but that is the way the wwe is going. I know they need the entertainment but then as you say tajiri is it then worth using that time for nostalgia rather than trying to generate new stars to fill the gaps that are left. Hogan will always get the biggest pops but how can you expect an audience to care abotu the rest of the card when they can pop so big for hogan. In my opinion it is a close balance of living in nostalgia to gain the pops/ratings and being stuck in the past. To me you need to be able to really go in the rin in order to make it work long term. Hogan can pop a crowd better than anyone but we all know his ring days are over. Fair enough to bring back the rock for that huge nostalgia pop but he can work matches, same with Foley. But Hogan, austin etc can't go in the ring so to me they are just burning air time no matter how big the pop. If i want nostalgia i'll get a copy of an early wrestlemania, if i want the middle ground then fine bring back the recent legends but the wwe is treading a real fine line. have they got it right? who am i to judge, but i it can be very easy to think short term and then end up getting stung.

Rant over and in answer to the question, for me as a fan of true wrestling No hogan is not worth the ring time, but that is just me and i don't sell out arenas so what do i know!

He cant wrestle and hasnt been able to for a while. Fair enough hes still ok on the mic and is a big draw but at the end of the day I want to see wrestling.
I'd liek to see him go up against JBL in a no dq match

I think that would be a terrible match!

To be fair Hogan against practically anyone at the moment, would be a terrible match, because he's barely mobile. I don't mind having him around, as long as he's doing something productive. Thus in his tag match, if Hassan and Daivari are made to look like jobbers, then that isn't productive. As popular as Hogan is, they have to look to the future, and build for the future. And putting guys like Hogan over the future, is essentially pointless. I've said it before, today he's a novelty act. But for special feuds, and giving people the rub, I'm all for it.
I agree with Tajari, I think hogan defo should stop wrestling and become a manager I really think he could ge the crowd worked up for a wrestler with not so good mic skills. But the wwe being money hungry are just doing what the crowd want even if it is a crippled hogan.

Yes, Hogan is worth the ring time, in small bursts and tag matches, like WWE are using him for at Backlash. Its booked perfectly. Remember, there are hundreds of thousands of people who still adore Hulk Hogan and want to see him, you only have to hear and see the responses he gets from the fans to realise that, so WWE are, for once, giving (alot of) us what we want to see.

Hogan was never great in the ring, Hulk Hogan and Hulkamania isnt about fantastic technical or high spot wrestling...it NEVER has been, so if anybody is stupid enough to be expecting great in-ring matches from hin, then they are setting themselves up for disappointment.

As for giving Hogan a push, thats crap. How is he being pushed? He is in a tag team midcard match, if thats getting a push then the Heart Throbs must be getting pushed too as they are on a midcard tag match...Akebono must have been getting a push at WM21 too, right? No. Hogan isnt being pushed, he is being used as an attraction to help gain some more buys if possible, dont get that confused with a push.

Lastly, using him as a manager wont work, I have said that so many times, it will not work. He will overshadow ANYBODY he is put with as their manager, and then all the Hogan bashers will come crawling out of the woodwork saying Hogan is hogging the spotlight blah blah blah, the same old shite they always say.

WWE are smart to use Hogan the way they are at Backlash. Its only one match on the card which I'm sure even the most adament Hogan basher can sit through. I sit through a ton of worthless crap like the cruiserweights and dont moan, if you cant do that, then you have issues.

I agree with Tajari' date=' I think hogan defo should stop wrestling and become a manager I really think he could ge the crowd worked up for a wrestler with not so good mic skills. But the wwe being money hungry are just doing what the crowd want even if it is a crippled hogan.[/quote']

I like Hogan but i think his in ring abilities have just about run out.

He will most likely always be a fan favorite because of what he has done for the company.

I could see him as a manager but only with someone that is like him and wants the spot light.

So i would have to say hogan is not worth the airtime

Hogans not worth a sh*t in the ring anymore so I would say "No More Match". Although he IS worth the airtime for brief run ins etc., although the last two have been really lame. You can't deny that he is a popular dude, brother. So I say keep him around but as far away from an actual match as possible.

When I heard Shawn Micheals say he was going to get a tag partner I was thinking "Alright, MartY Jannetty." Then he called out Hogan. While I will admit I marked out, I soon found myself going, he can't even do his finisher anymore, how is he supposed to wrestle? I kept think how much better it would be to see Marty Jannetty in a match with him. We saw them on RAW and The Rockers were awesome. They looked REALLY good in the ring.

My problem with Hogan is he can't wrestle anymore. The guy can barely move around anymore. I have a feeling this match is going to be Shawn Micheals carrying everyone. I don't think Hogan is worth the ring time, because he can't even do much. I'd say let sleeping dogs lie.

"No More Match".

Spot on, "No More Match! No More Match! No More Match!" :D

Yes he is.

He is over. If Hassan pins Hogan or makes him tap clean, Hassan will be incredibly over. OK, he already is, but add to that a win over Hogan, and you have instant sucess. When Hogan puts someone over, it means more than anyone else in wrestling. HHH, Cena, Batista etc, none would be able to put someone as over, as Hogan can.

I believe the internet has made too much about his legs/hips. He can still run about, so I don't understand why he can't 'drop the leg'. When he returned at WM, he didn't look in bad shape to me, then on RAW he jumped from the ring apron to the floor. That would be more impact on his hips than a legdrop.

He can still pull off a match. I don't need to really explain this, I will say watch Hogan vs Andre, and is that a match with bumps? No. Any risks? No. Did the crowd love every second of it? Yes. Is it one of the greatest matches ever? Yes. Same could go for Hogan vs Vince, I thought it was a great match, but didn't involve any hard work.

He still has fans, so when you bring in his name to a PPV, the casual fans will buy it. Hogan returning is always good financially for WWE.

He can still cut an excellent promo. This weeks on RAW, was great to me.

Kind of off topic but not worth starting a new thread over, just thought some of you would be interested in this poll, what do you reckon Belty? The people have spoken!

I think Hassan and Daivari winning on Sunday will be INCREDIBLY doubtful.

Nothing to do with the internet, I believe Hogan said it himself shortly after his hip replacement.

I dont believe this whole idea that Hogan has to job here.. If you ask me I'd prefer a Hassan win, and then I dunno, dragging a long possibly entertaining feud with him until a big one v one at Summerslam.

But ok, that probably won't happen. Point I was going to make anyway is look what happened last time, they overjobbed Hogan to the point that it really didnt mean much anymore when someone beat him. The only 2 really effective jobs I think Hogan ended up doing in that period was to Lesnar and to Angle.

So I don't see it ESSENTIAL that Hogan job, just that they put on an entertaining match. Ok, whilst Beltmark takes Hogan loving to a new high, it seems for a lot of people Hogan can never do right. I'm somewhere in the middle. I'm looking forward to the match.

I dunno this is hard I really liked Hogan and I would still cheer for him but he is getting on and in my mind other than his Japan matches has not really wrestled his 80's matches were just power battles/brawls mostly or filed with rest holds.

But I want to see Hogan wrestle one more time but not at Backlash but st Wrestlemania 22 lose a retirement match to somebody and properly give it up thats the right way to do it and try as much as possible to stick to it like Foley tried to do after No way out 2000 and wrestled only 3 times since to my knowledge.

It is time for the Hulkster he is with a doubt a legend , an icon, perhaps dare I say it the greatest of all time for popularity etc.

But the year is 2005 not 1985 when Hogan beat everyone and was young he is now an old man who is knackered rather like Kevin Nash. Hogan give it up but not here you mean more than a ruddy 2nd rate ppv it should be on the grandest stage of them all like it was meant to be and hopefully will be

Typical internet smark Hogan bashing, its nothing new. Let them put their precious cruisers in the ring at WM in the main event and see how they draw and compare it to Hulk vs Andre. The match wasnt SUPPOSED to be a technical classic, it was supposed to be a spectacle and a huge money draw and last time I looked, it achieved both goals set.

And lets be honest, and 'crap' as some people say Hulk vs Andre was, HBK vs Bret Iron Man was pathetic and 100 times worse. Those two guys, who could have ptu on a clinic, should be ashamed of themselves for that match.

Belty is right. Hogan is still worth the ring time because WWE need him once in a while. It's all about the buys, and ticket sales. I wouldn't be surprised if Backlash is sold out (unlike a lot of ppvs these days). So what if he can't drop the leg - he is Hulk Hogan - he can pull off a great match even without it.

Pushed and booked right it'd be 1000 times better than anything Hogan could do with any opponent. thats what i believe but then i'm and Internet smark

If it would be so much better, then why wouldnt it draw hungry flies to warm ****? Do you think Paul London vs Billy Kidman, if booked right and pushed, could sell out the Silverdome or the Skydome? Nope and nope. No chance! Face it, cruisers, even booked to perfection, will never draw a dime because they all look like the midget who works in Tesco or the kid in school everybody can beat up.

When they were booked well on Nitro, it was fun to watch and thats the best they have EVER been booked, yet they werent the draw, people who couldnt wrestle and who sucked according to guys like Meltzer (people like Goldberg, Nash, Hall and Hogan) were the ones drawing.

Fact is, Hogan is a draw and as long as he can garner interest or sell T-shirts and a few extra tickets, he is worth whatever WWE pay him and is worth the time they invest in him, its really as simple as that. Business sense.
