"Sony to launch GAA Game on Playstation 2 in November"

Sony Computer Entertainment Ireland has today announced that Gaelic Games: Football™, exclusive to the PlayStation®2 entertainment system, will launch across Ireland on November 11, 2005.

For the first time ever, take to the field in a Gaelic football game fully licensed by the GAA and developed by IR Gurus using their unique AFL Rules game engine.

Gaelic Games: Football™ will allow players to play a single game or follow a full GAA season, including the National football league, Provincial and All-Ireland SFC. Recreate dozens of moves from soloing, handpassing, tackling and shooting in one of 11 photo realistic stadiums including Croke Park, O’Moore Park, Semple Stadium, Casement Park and Pearse Stadium. Players can choose from all current county teams including London and New York.

Gaelic Games: Football™ also includes full commentary from the legendary Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh and Sony Computer Entertainment Ireland has worked closely with Foras na Gaeilge, the all Island body for the promotion of the Irish language, to develop a full Irish language menu option and manual.

Commenting on the announcement, Niall O’Hanrahan, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Ireland said: ‘Following 10 successful years of PlayStation software sales in Ireland, it gives us enormous pleasure to launch this truly unique football gaming experience. It has taken a long time to get to this stage and the enthusiasm and encouragement from everyone at the GAA has been instrumental in helping us achieve this goal’.

"We are delighted that the game will be available for the Christmas market and I know there are many thousands of GAA fans who have been patiently awaiting the game’s arrival," said GAA President Sean Kelly.

"I have no doubt that the partnership of Sony Computer Entertainment and the GAA in developing this new game will have huge benefits for the GAA. It brings the Association into a new technological and promotional era and we appreciate the efforts of Sony, not only in this venture, but in other support such as their sponsorship of the Leinster GAA summer camps."

"Foras na Gaeilge are delighted to be associated with this pioneering product from Sony Computer Entertainment Ireland," said Seosamh Mac Donnacha, Príomhfheidhmeannach (CEO), Foras na Gaeilge.

"Gaelic Games: Football™' is the first ever computer game for any Gaelic game and has been licensed by the GAA. It is also the first ever game of its type to be produced in bilingual format with Irish and English user options.

"Users will find the game manual in both Irish and English and can select the in-game menus in Irish or English. Foras na Gaeilge welcome this new and enjoyable vehicle for the Irish language and look forward to its widespread success."

I saw it for sale in xtravision today when I was looking for Smackdown, it doesn't look very good, and has been virtually hidden from all reviews or previews until the game is released, a sure sign that it will suck.

P.S. Is there any chance xtravision might have Smackdown for sale tonight?

Its based on the Aussie Rules engine, which even the Austrailians think is a crappy game. I'm itching to buy Smackdown, I tried lots of places today with no luck, I may have to ring xtravision and see if they have some to sell.

I got it yesterday. The graphics are pig ugly, the commentary is fantastic though and is constantly streaming. Still getting used to the controls. But overall the presentation is diabolical.

Yikes!, it did sound like a half assed effort to be honest, there were absolutley no screenshots, videos, previews or reviews ANYWHERE on the net before its release, which is a shame because a lot of people will be buying this today, and then of course bringing it back to the shop.

I would recommend it, but in the sense of an old retro classic game-Get it cheap and dont expect too much from it.

There is some novelty to be had from it, and the two player mode is the way to go. Expecting a lot of trade ins so it wont be hard to find cheap.

I doubt im gonna get this unless one of my mates gets it.It isnt even the real players, I was hoping to be the real players and there to be some classic teams so that there would be a chance that some of my old teachers from school would be in it and I could beat the crap out of them.
