Styles Permanent On Raw?

I'm sure most people here would have heard that Joey Styles was only working part time with WWE as Raw's main commentator, and that he still has other engagements working in advertising for another company. That was the main stumbling block when it came to signing him full time, as unless he recieved a very lucrative offer, he didn't need to leave his current job.

 

That also meant that Styles would have been unable to come on the European tour, as he's obviously expected at his regular job. I've even seen one source that says "We'll know whether he's signed a full time contract if he shows up on the European tour".

 

Well, watching the WWE.com video regarding the drug testing policy, Styles is clearly seen in the locker room. Since the announcement was made today, I assume that video was filmed in England. Surely that confirms that Styles has signed full time for WWE?

 

I've not seen anything about him taking time off work, so I would assume that he's left his advertising job to work for WWE if he is in Sheffield for the show tonight. Or does someone know anything otherwise?

I had heard earlier today that former ECW announcer Joey Styles, who has called the last two Raw shows for WWE, was in the UK and would be calling Raw tonight. It's been confirmed, probably unintentionally, by WWE.com in footage they have on the site of the meeting that Vince McMahon had with the wrestlers today to announce the new drug policy. Styles can be seen standing next to the camera, so he's definitely in England to call Raw.

 

Styles had been at the last two Raw tapings on something of a "tryout" basis (for both sides) using his remaining sick days from his regular jobs. He had told people close to him that he was out of personal time from his job and would only be at future Raw tapings if he came to terms on a contract with WWE. It appears that he has.

 

I hope Styles in full time on RAW, he's been doing a great job so far.

I haven't heard if he has signed fulltime but hopefully he has. Jim Ross is the greatest announcer ever, but lets face it, he wasn't exactly setting the world on fire lately and Styles has been a huge breath of fresh air on Raw the last couple of weeks. Now, I wish they would can Lawler and Coach and put Heyman in the colour position with Styles. I can dream, can't I?

 

I would also like to say I have been hypnotised by that Hogan avatar for at least two minutes now. Strangely mesmerising.

It will come to no-one's surprise that I was over the moon to see Joey Styles in WWE, being an ECW mark and all. Styles is the best PBP man in the business today IMO......he knows the proper names for the holds and moves used, which is a rarity these days...............and can put the talent over, as opposed to the announcers usually putting themselves over.

 

All we need now is Mike Awesome to be signed, brought in as his Career Killer/ECW persona, and be let loose a la Brock/Goldberg.

I didn't think anyone would be able to replace JR as well as Styles has so far. Obviously, he isn't as good as JR and I don't think WWE will find anyone who is, but I suppose Styles is the next best thing.

Styles is a much better Play-by-Play man than JR, IMO. He knows what the moves are called better than JR, and can put more emotion into his announcing than JR did recently. I'm all for him, he's great :wub

If this news is true, I think it's fantastic news, Styles is the best guy around, and they couldn't have found anyone better to take J.R.'s place.

 

I don't think they should get rid of Coach though, if anything it'd have to be King who goes, because the colour guy should be heel, with a face play-by-play guy to compliment him. King is face too often to make it work successfully, but having King and Coach there with Styles works really well.

 

If only Heenan was fit and healthy and still able to commentate, Heenan and Styles would be great.

Good, I'm glad to see the back of J.R and I really Styles' work, especially naming moves. It is what I would expect a play by play guy to do, but it makes a pleasant change he actually does it!

 

How short is Joey by the way? It looks hilarious when he is sitting between Coach and Lawler and peaking over the desk.

JR didn't want to do more backstage stuff, he doesn't even have a job backstage right now. The WWE forced him into it.
