Well its the end of the year, actually not sure how many bloomin' PPVs there's been this year but by jove theres been a few eh. Reasonably boring year for wrestling I'd say though. Infact jeez, when you think about it, pretty awful year. Nothing much of note happened at all and it looks like 2006 will suck quite a lot unless things change pronto.

Anyhow, the question still stands. Who do you think was the most valuable wrestler in the WWE in 2005?

Just to remind, this has been going for 3 years now already, 2002 you guys all said Kurt Angle, 2003 you tied Lesnar and Jericho as MVP and 2004 you said Chris Benoit with a landslide majority... and half way through this year Big Dave Batista got the nod as MVP of 2005 so far... but who would you say now?

Personally, since it's been such a dull year, I'd actually go for Rey Mysterio. I almost said Big Dave or even JBL but Mysterio has remained super over throughout the year, put on great matches all over the place, and albeit although the feud with Eddie was ridiculous the matches were entertaining. Not going to forget that suplex onto the stairs in a hurry.

His new theme sucks granted but he's over and I think pushed in the right way a World title feud for Rey would totally work and he would actually make a great World champion, he's got it all if you ask me and would sell as a reasonably short term champion if booked correctly.

However that is just me. Whaddya think yourself?

(where the hell did the poll go?)

I'm not doing this for the reason that most people think, but I choose Eddie.

He managed to make his feud with Rey, despite the horrible storyline, the matches were great, and he even managed to get a decent match out of DAVE.

If he had lived, he would have been a guaranteed MVP .

I agree,

And I'm the type of guy who loves being controversial and going against the grain but on this particular ocassion I'd have to agree with Fill because that whole "I'm your Daddy" thing was terrible, but the actual matches were great, probably one of the only WWE highlights of the past year.

I love DX Trips but I really can't stand The Game no matter how talented he is.

I was a big Michaels mark even after the wrestlemania where he jobbed to Austin but since he made his comeback all he's done is dance around like a stereotypical Nancy Boy! Don't get me wrong, I admire men like Pat Patterson for having the balls to stand up and be counted but HBK(these days) just makes me sick to watch.

Batistas' improvement and growth is a great achievement but to me he still doesn't deserve the status he has at the moment, the guy can't even take proper bumps without getting injured for christs sake!

Please, don't even mention Cena to me, PLEASE!

Justin 'Hawk' Bradshaw will always be JUSTIN HAWK BRADSHAW to me no matter how much of a push he gets or how much they try and make him seem to emulate the fictitious J.R. Ewing! He is still boring to watch in the ring!

Need Isay any more about the other choices?!:lol

Oh yeah Christian is no longer with WWF and hasn't been for some time, so he doesn't count!

And sadly Benoit hasn't been involved in any really prominent storylines or works this year(if we're honest).

Randy Orton, Edge?

Surely you're taking the piss!?:devil

I went for Edge.

He has had some of THE best matches of 2005 by far. The street fight with Benoit finishing with the brick was just so old school and class. The 6 way money in the bank ladder match was probably the best match this year and he was incredible in it (helped by Christian, Jericho and Benoit though), and he won that. He's got great music, has evolved into one of the best heels that WWE has had in a while.

He's also been cutting some of the best promos of anyone this year. After the highly funny (if wrong) slating of Ric Flair, all the promos about Matt Hardy, the backstage stuff with Lita and Snitsky...... (ok maybe forget Snitsky).....

Of anyone in the WWE this year, he has been so consistent and has made much more of an impact. I just hope the WWE don't forget the money in the bank contract, which could be a fantastic angle.

Plus his entrance music is great too.... irrelevant I know, but it is.

Finally! Someone agrees that a Rey World title reign would work.

For me it's between Eddie, Rey and Shawn Michaels, Eddie was just brilliant as a heel during the feud with Rey and put him over huge, as said above, he even got a decent match out of Batista. Rey was consistently very good all year round and Michaels had that fantastic heel run and carried the 80 yr old Hogan to a great feud and decent match AND of course Wrestlemania 21.

For me the MVP of the year has to be Dave Batista. He won the Royal Rumble, beat HHH three times in a row, and has only been pinned once this entire year in singles competition (by Randy Orton shortly after New Years Revolution in a number one contenders match to face HHH at the Royal Rumble).

2005 will forever be synonomous with the death of Eddie Guerrero. To ignore his contribution over the past 12 months or so would be wrong, because in 10 years or so from now, only Eddie's death and everything that stemmed from it will be remembered.

Angle and Batista have both had great years, but their performances really pale in significance to the final year of Eddie's life, and the resulting happenings.

he is maybe the greatest all round talent the WWE has ever seen.

Ah for crying out loud.

For some reason the poll hasn't appeared on this stupid computer but anyway Eddie Guerrero and not only because he passed away. Had Eddie still been alive he would have still been the WWE MVP of this year. Transitioned from a great babyface, into the greatest heel in wrestling, back to a great babyface so damn smoothly. A lot of people seemed to hate the Rey Mysterio feud, but I was never one of them, simply because it involved Eddie Guerrero, who could make chicken salad out of chicken ****. Eddie showed in 2005 why he was BY FAR the best all round performer in wrestling.

Eddie was fantastic but he wasnt as good as Shawn Michaels! HBK and Eddie are/were great in the ring and on the mic. However HBK was constantly main eventing because he has that X factor to make it with the mainstream. I loved Eddie but he leaves us with his title reign being the most notable thing he has done, whereas HBK has been in DX and is a multiple WWE champion. Smarks will prefer Eddie because he is the one who never got the chance till late on in his life and worked indy style matches all over the place. But HBK has been a much better all round talent for the WWE, his matches are more storytelling than Eddies which suits the WWE.

no disrespect to Eddie he was great bu Michaels is a better all round talent.

Mic skills, charisma, ring work, heel work, babyface work, psychology, facial expressions, acting skills (they are important in the promotion we're talking about), they are all areas Eddie Guerrero was the better of Shawn Michaels in. There is not one single area Michaels was as good as Eddie in. The majority of so called 'smarks' would prefer Eddie because he was MUCH better than Michaels. When you say he worked 'indy style matches all over the place', I am not really understanding what you're saying considering that he only worked in the independents for less than a year and in the last 10 years Eddie has worked for the 3 most prominant North American wrestling promotions. Eddie told MUCH better stories in ring. His matches with Lesnar at No Way Out 2004 and his bullrope match with JBL at GAB 2004 being only 2 of the multiple examples of this. I find it hilarious that you say Michaels had the 'X factor to make it with the mainstream'. Go out to the street, ask 100 wrestling fans to name a wrestler, you'd get Hogan, Austin, The Rock, maybe some others such as Andre The Giant. I guarantee not one of them would say Shawn Michaels. If you want to watch a professional wrestler be everything that a professional wrestler should be, watch Eddie Guerrero, if not, watch Shawn Michaels.

No disrespect to Michaels, but he is an overrated hack who isn't fit to be mentioned in the same breath as Eddie Guerrero.

How can people's different OPINIONS be a "fact"?

Fact: I preferred Eddie's work to HBK.

Fact: You prefer HBK's work to Eddie's.

There, it's a proven fact that Eddie was better than HBK, and that HBK was better than Eddie.

OK, first, try a little thing called "punctuation", it helps with reading your posts.

Next, please read my post, I voted for Eddie because of his work, which if he was having a 2 month break for the end of the year, then I'd STILL vote for him.

Eoin you're an idiot. Eddie was simply great this year, MUCH better than Carlito who has done nothing at all to deserve MVP, it's nothing to do with his death, you're just incredibly shallow minded.

I say John Cena lol.....

Joking i think the stand out guy Qwas eddie with out a shadow of a doubt. As someone said before he seemed to go from Face to Heel to face again seemlessly and thats pretty impressive.

Other mentions go to HBK for his heel role in the Hogan feud and maybe Edge as well for his role as a heel this year

Eddie - because the man deserves it, dead or alive - to think otherwise is, as mentioned above, shallow minded and petty.

It might be too soon to give him legend status, but he certainly proved that you didn't need to be the biggest frog in the pond to make a splash...:3

{ see what I did there? XD }

So sod off all those who say he doesn't deserve it if he'd been alive - because he'd still have run rings around the lot of 'em AND then make off with the wallets after.

I was torn with this, to be honest. I could have voted Cena because despite the backlash he's facing, he was unquestionably the biggest "draw" of 2005, merchandise wise (and I enjoyed a lot of his matches). I could have voted Eddie because he had a fantastic feud with Rey (Dominic aside) and even with the stupidity of some of it, he made it work perfectly. I could have even voted Batista, but I simply don't like him.

Instead, I went for Shawn Michaels. Say what you will about his ego, his lies, his attitude and his faith, but the guy can go in the ring like no one else can. He sold like a bitch for Hogan in the Orange Monsters best match in years, and single-handedly carried the feud to mean something more than what it originally would have. He made Chris Masters look like a guy who isn't actually a talentless heatless cretin (and you could tell because as soon as the feud ended, Masters was back to being a talentless heatless cretin), he had some blinders with Kurt Angle, a great little match with Rey Mysterio on RAW, showed that he could still be the best heel in the business when he wanted to, and had a corker with Shelton Benjamin on RAW a while back. He's gonna cement his legacy over the next two years if he hasn't already. Shawn is, for these reasons, my MVP :)

Triple H for me.

- Helped make a star out of someone who was a complete nobody at the start of the year, into a credible main event by the time the feud finished.

- Has had 2 match of the year candidates with 50 year old man, when people like Angle and Eddie failed to drag even a passable match out of him.

- Had a great Hell in a Cell match with Batista, which told a great story and proves you dont need to have a couple of big bumps to make a HIAC match good.

- Has lost as many matches as he's won, and even in the matches he wins, his opponent comes out just as good (Flair-Survivor Series)

- Has cut down on the long promos since his return and gets the same amount, if not less, TV time than everyone else.

- His best year in the ring since 2000.

No doubt a HHH hater will try and rip my points apart.

The only gripe i have about that is that the feud in it's self lasted scarsley more then six weeks at the most, personally i feel it should have ran into 2006 at least.
