What things make you want to tune in to wwe tv and what makes you want to turn off? Vince has been gold just recently and im enjoying everything he is a part of. Edge has been superb as of late and the Spirit Squad are something new and fun to watch. On SD Booker T and Sharmell have been stealing the show for the last few weeks and Lashley is slowly but surely building momentum. Orton has really started to shine and it will be interesting to see if this suspension is a work or legit.

Things that im not enjoying as much are the reluctance to turn John Cena his title run is really wearing thin with me now. The Tag divison is a sorry state of affairs. The Boogeyman is getting less entertaining with each passing week. Still unsure with Rey as champ (but i suppose he desrves a shot).

On the whole the i feel the WWE is producing some good consistant TV week after week and im starting to enjoy the product a little more. In fact i haven't been enjoying it this much since mid 2001. Its by no means perfect but its a start.

I think WWE have stepped up a little recently, and I am enjoying it a lot. Things that bore me are Candice Michelle, and John Cena's reign. Other than that Its all good.
I missed out JBL who has also made Smackdown worth tuning in for, i envisage a lengthy and entertaining US title run for Mr Layfield.
I'm happy at the moment with WWE apart from Boogeyman, plain and simple he is terrible and not entetaining anymore. After a few months and seeing the same thing over and over again it ain't funny anymore.

On the Raw side of things….

Well for the past 4-6 months the main highlight of WWE has been the Micke James and Trish Stratus feud. James has been absolutely outstanding in the role of the psycho and alongside Trish being as good as always this has been one of the best feuds WWE has written in a long long time.

Raw has a collection of great heels at the moment. Edge is also coming into his own now and has been on a huge upswing since the Hardy feud. For me he is the best mic-worker in the WWE and there’s nothing better on RAW than a great Edge promo and around the time he was given the strap he was on fire.Vince McMahon for all the heat he gets from smarks is still one of the most entertaining heels in the business and he has been great this year and I have enjoyed him more than at any other time since the Austin. And of course the Game is back and has been superb lately. Together these provide a strong backbone to RAW.

Then of course we have Cena. (This is what I just posted in another thread but it applies here). I have never hated Cena and until the last few weeks I have never overly liked him. But ever since New Years Revolution I have really began to like Cena and I’m not sure whether part of it is sympathy or not for his treatment but I have went from thinking he was a bad choice as Champion in mid 2005 to thinking he is the best man to hold the belt at this time. I’m not ashamed to admit it either. At the moment he is being booked in a very entertaining angle, coming off a great build from Rumble to Mania and for out and out sports-entertainment I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed Cena more. This is the first time I have ever been able to say I am a Cena "fan" but I guess I am. Of course I prefer other guys such as Edge but with him, HHH and Cena on top its going to provide for some great tv, and Cena is an integral part of that. He is a good and interesting, and above all entertaining, guy to have on top in the current climate.

Smackdown….

I don’t want to get into a rant about the exploitation of the legacy of Eddie but suffice to say it has been a prominent part of Smackdown lately. Orton has used it, Rey has used it and it’s been overused to the maximum. Frankly, Rey’s shoulder-dance annoys me and cheaply use it to get Orton heat and push Rey has annoyed me. But it hasn’t ruined Smackdown that much for me.

Orton in fact has been great on the mic recently and he is one of the prime draws on Smackdown for me and again, like RAW, he is part of a collection of great heels on Smackdown at the moment. Booker T is one of the most enjoyable workers to watch in the company, particularly his recent angle with Bogeyman and Sharmell which gave us some great comedy moments. Finaly is a great old-school heel and its refreshing to see in 2006 that this gimmick when done right, and boy is Finlay doing it superbly, can be so darn enjoyable. Even JBL is great on the mic and of course MNM are the most underused talent in WWE these days. Heck, even Mark Henry has been booked well as an out-and-out monster and has been in some great segments. Like I said about RAW this backbone of great heels gives the show a great foundation.

Angle of course is one of the most entertaining guys to watch and his intensity unique. Rey too has been great lately. Taker simply doesn’t work enough shows or enough interesting segments to be one of my favourite parts of the show.

And you have to give credit to a show that goes with gimmicks such as a Pirate and a Boogeyman. Purists may not like them and may snigger and laugh, but at the end of the day there’s no harm in trying these out and even though I hate the Boogeyman, every kid I talk to in my family who’s a wrestling fan loves him and in my eyes, if the kids love him, its mission accomplished.

WWE Tv has also gained some of the unpredictability it lost over the course of 2003-4 and not a Raw or SD has gone by recently where I haven’t been surprised at a match, the way an angle goes or what is said in a promo.

WWE TV for me is strong at the minute due to the calibre of workers they have, with backbone of great heels.

The product still doesn't come no way near the high entertainment level of the Attitude era I'm afraid. They have improved recently as of late but there's still a big part of that non-stop entertainment fuelled show missing.

Blame the 15 different Hollywood writers they have.

Things I do not like about the WWE product currently -

The fact there is now only usually about 3 backstage scenes in one show and when it does go to a backstage scene it is usually very boring. Back in the Attitude era backstage scenes would go on throughout the show and they would usually be very entertaining. Stuff like the abduction of Stephanie, stuff like Stone Cold coming into the arena in a monster truck, stuff like Vince McMahon begging to the Undertaker. Real highly entertaining TV here and today there is none of it.

Not that many interesting characters like there used to be. A lot of the so called stars today in WWE are pretty much 'generic' guys with not a lot to them. Before you had Undertaker, Kane (2 mysterious characters with excellent gimmicks to be honest) and this is when Undertaker was at his best of course. You had the disturbed Mankind which made interesting viewing, and of course - You had Austin the most over guy in the company ever and you also had The Rock.... Also Shamrock and others... The Ministry, The Corporation, I'm afraid it doesn't get much better than this.

Um what else don’t I like these days? The fact a lot of the story telling is all going on in the ring and not enough entertaining backstage stuff. All the stuff that was great in the late 90’s is gone basically. This is why I switched off in early 2000 because everything that made the product great was disappearing. But of course, we know why the product started to suffer. It's because Vince Russo left WWE in late ‘99 and past that the product just went down. I've made a thread about this before which some may remember, I don't think I'll go into it all again.

This is my opinion.

As you won't say why Russo leaving changed it, I'll neglect to mention how they got higher ratings in 2000 and 2001 after he left.

Erm for me, they seem reluctant to push a lot of people, especially when they are a hot i.e. Edge when he was champion. But its getting better recently with renewed pushes for him and Rey, RVD etc.

Lack of tag division is sad, may as well abandon having titles for them, as they mean so little. The IC title I wish had a bit more importance. Just seems to be incredibly overlooked.

But overall the product is just doing alright at the moment, better than its been for a while.

I generally only watch for Cena. Edge too, admittedly. The rest is generally filler, but sometimes they hit some good points (Spirit Squad for example).

That's not true at all. The highest rating was sometime during mid 1999 I believe. It was an episode of RAW. The ratings continued to stay fairly high in 2000 (but never as high as 1999) simply because of all the hype created by the Atttitude era. It soon went down after a year or so.

And you're saying I won't say how Russo leaving changed it? That's what my post above basically summed up. He was the one that brought all the entertaining backstage action which I described above and as soon as he went all of that went aswell. The new writers were leaving most stuff and story-telling in the ring which gets boring after a while. It's nice to have a bit of both, in-ring and backstage story telling, but since Russo left, it was all in the ring which got quite stale and boring in my opinion.

And the Austin heel turn in 2001 made things even worse turning a lot of people away.

in my opinion wwe's biggest downfall is that raw has always been pushed as the main brand, has had the better storylines and the majority of top performers whilst smackdowns product has remaind pretty dormant. Although recently it has had a vast improvement.

If more people watched the PPV's in 2000 after Russo left in 1999, how does that make it a downfall? The PPV buyrates didn't start going downhill until about late 2001. For your theory to work, then the 2000 buyrates would have to be around the same, and a little less than 99. But if they are a higher, it means more people are watching, thus your whole theory is shot out the water.

So as soon as Russo left, nothing changed. Showing that yeah he was important, but he wasn't the be all and end all of success, cause if so then surely WCW should have been a massive success when he joined.

What I like about WWE right now is actually the matches, for a while I have been disolusioned with the quality of match, but recently they have started to produce alot better quality in the ring and cut back on the talking and stupid segments backstage... oh and finally one word BOOGYMAN!!

What I don't like is the amount of green wrestlers or more to the point pointless wrestlers they are bring in, Spirit Squad for example, some are good workers but in what they have given them is terrible!

I hated it when Attitude era ended. More stuff going on then and things were shook up with all the cool main eventers. It's just boring now. And I think around 2000/2001 it got boring but not sure.

Likes - The quality of the matches on Smackdown, Booker T and Sharmell, the exciting new finishers we get to see, new talent as opposed to the same old faces.

Dislikes - Joey Styles instead of J.R on raw, Raw in general (it's just so glum looking with its music and colours, smackdown seems a much happier place), the majoirty of the Vince and HBK segments its nothing new, Big show, Kane, Mark Henry, Chris Masters, Viscera, RVD, Rey Mysterio all either crap or stale. The lack of a tag team division yet still pointless titles, the lack of cruiserweights being allowed to do cruiserweight moves.

Occasionally RAW and SD! really piss me off as they appear to be nothing more than preview shows for PPVs with pointless matches (namely handicap match main events). WWE's booking is also very frustrating at times and their lower titles aren't being used well at all. The US and IC Titles barely ever get proper storylines built around them, the tag divisions are virtually non-existent and RAW spends way too much time on divas. You'd swear they actually effect the ratings from how Vince pushes them.

Live Sex = Ratings

Sex sells. Like it or not. And that’s what the Divas are all about. It’s very hard to tell ratings wise what effect the Divas have but the very fact that when the Diva's are in Playboy, the magazine often sells record numbers, shows that they must be popular.

Plus at this minute the main Diva storyline happens to be one the best angles in recent WWE history

A-****IN'-MEN!!!!

If your aiming your product at 18-35 year old straight males, you throw in tons of adult material, it's over as hell.

Anyways, heres my bits:

LIKE---

The Trish/Mickie storyline.

Cenas will he/wont he never ending heel turn.

The Rated-R Superstar, like garlic bread, it's the future.

Benoit, obviously.

DISLIKE---

Orton/Rey/Eddie nonesense.

H-Bomb lurking in the main event again.

Tim Whites suicide crap.

That's the problem for me. As a smart fan I would much prefer to see all that precious time put towards rebuilding the IC and tag team divisions. I'll watch porn when I want to see sex. I'll watch RAW when I want to watch wrestling (or at least that's what I hope for).

That’s the problem with some fans, particularly those who like to slate WWE. They like to bitch and moan about WWE and they like to complain about the Divas but when the WWE finally give us a great storyline, with perfect character evolution and near-perfect development, they still complain. Storylines this strong don’t come along very often so instead of moaning about the IC division and the tag belts…just enjoy it for what it is.

Is the storyline that strong? Some people don't seem to be able to tell the difference between a good feud and a long feud. Personally speaking, the Trish/Mickie feud has never interested me. It seems like a clichéd soap opera script and it's hogging WAY too much time on RAW IMO.

First and foremost you made it pretty clear in your post above that you do not like the Divas or the fact they are given air time, so chances are you never gave this feud a chance to begin with. Its hardly hogging time on RAW is it? It usually gets 5 minutes a week and a bit more when it gets a main segment. The most it has ever got is probably the 10-15 minutes it got when Mickie did the Trish Stratus celebration party.

“Is the Storyline that Strong?” you ask. The majority of wrestling fans love it. Heck, even most anti-diva smarks admit its been a well developed feud. Look at the crowd reaction too. They are lapping it up.

I can’t help but feel you’re anti-WWE, anti-sports-entertainment and anti-diva sentiments are blinding you’re enjoyment of what is widely agreed to be a great feud
