Right, so yesterday, I turned on my 360 to have a proper go at Dead Rising. First of all the disc tray wouldn't open, it eventually did, and I signed in and put the disc in. Everything loads up fine, and I'm getting ready to kill some Zed's. I skip the introduction and cut scenes, as I've seen them and go from the very start. I decided to mess about with the camera and take pictures of the surviours. I take about 2 pictures, go to take another and then the 360 crashes. I loaded up the game again, did the same thing, it was fine. I killed some zombies headed to the stairs, and then it crashed on the cut-scene.

The crashing has only happened once before, and that was on Burnout and that was quite a while ago. My brother experienced the crashing in Forza 2 last night. And about the warrenty... we don't have one, I don't think, as my mum couldn't afford it once she got the 360, and my dad said no, as he put money in towards the 360.

Does this mean I am going to be getting the red rings anytime soon? What should I do? If I get it repaired, how much would it set me back?

The warranty comes with it (well it should do anyway), so you should be able to send it to Microsoft to be fixed or replaced.

Microsoft has agreed to pay for any "three lights of doom repair", in or out of warrenty and also will refund players who have already paid for this repair.

I do not have a 360 not sure where you would go to get started but i guess there is some sort of "home site" on the 360 network.

taken from Wiki

"Initially, Microsoft repaired consoles under the 90 day warranty for free, and charged $140 to repair out-of-warranty consoles. In December, 2006, Microsoft extended the warranty of all Xbox 360 consoles suffering general hardware failures to 1 year, and in July, 2007, as a result of "an unacceptable number of repairs to Xbox 360 consoles," extended it yet again to 3 years (for general hardware failures only), a warranty length covering all Xbox 360s sold. Additionally, customers who paid to have their out-of-warranty consoles repaired would be reimbursed. Microsoft stated that they reserved US$ 1.15 Billion for fixing malfunctioning consoles, enough money to fix 2.5 million consoles."

Have you tried gently cleaning the disc with a dry t-shirt (or something as soft)?

If it is the console, as has been said; You're covered for 3 years. If's it's under a year old - take it back to the shop. Otherwise ring Microsoft.

Right, just tried it. Cleaned all my discs, put smackdown in, was running smoothly and then crashed again. I'll see if I've still got the box to take back to the shop, but I think my mum threw it away a few weeks ago.
I knew it. :( The red rings of doom have just appeared. Time to call Microsoft.
Yep. Time for a few weeks without getting boxy with it.
Should have got a PS3 instead. Everyone knows that Sony products don't break until the day after your one year warranty runs out.
Just gave Microsoft a call, couldn't understand a word the guy was mumbling. Just to clarify, do they send a label to your house and email?
  • 3 weeks later...

Yippie I just got the red lights. At least my machine lasted since the day it came out with little trouble.

Screw microsoft I'm not waiting weeks for them to repair it I will just buy a new machine and they can refund my money for the broken one.

I can be a pushy ******* when it comes to thinks breaking because of a shoddy build. I will just harrass them non stop.

It probably will be a waste of time but see I don't care I will harrass them anyway. I will / have still contacted support though so they can't say I didn't go through the proper channels first.

Since the first day it was released however long ago that is. Well over a year and probably close to 2.

Oh heres a thought whatever happens repair or new console it won't affect the removable hard drive will it? I would not be happy if I lost my saves and downloads.
