Like it says on the tin, this is a thread for retro games, post you favourite games from the PAST.

My two favourite games are for the Master System.

Penguin Land

Basically the objective of this game was to safely get a egg through each level, to your spaceship at the bottom of the screen, you had to get past booby traps and enemies who will try and crack your egg.

Alex Kidd In Miracle World

The kid with ears like Spook and a fist more powerful then Mike Tyson's (in his prime of course), so powerful it could break rocks to earn you cash, or just to destroy the rocks in your way. The best bit about this game is the level bosses who you had to defeat by playing a game of rock, paper, and scissors.

Alex Kidd rocked. As did Wonder Boy, both on the Master System. Moving onto a more *ahem* modern console, Mortal Kombat 2 on the Mega Drive...............FINISH HIM!!!!
Streets of Rage 2. Splatterhouse! Loved the idea of being a masked maniac!!!!! What does that say about me?
Wonderboy 2 was a favourite of mine, but only yesterday I spent about a half hour playing Rick Dangerous, now thats "old school". I never really liked the Mortal Kombat games...

Probally not alot really.... However splatterhouse did kick ass!

For me my all time Retro games have got to be:

Super Mario brothers 1 to Super Mario World

Street fighter 2

Mortal Kombat 1 to 3

The Legend of Zelda 1, 2 and 3: a Link to the past

Metroid

Sonic 1 to Sonic and knuckles

Streets of Rage 2

Doom (back on the PC)

TMNT the arcade game (even the nes game was still good as well)

Ghost busters on the Mega Drive

and finally the best game of the retro scene

MEGA MAN

Tetris - Preferably Tertris 3 on the SNES...

Every Mario up until Mario 64, one of the most over-rated games of all time... 3D Platformers suck people, 2D was way better!

Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country ruled also...

Mortal Kombat 1, 2, 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Trilogy where awesome...

Killer Instinct...

Zool rocked...

But for all time greatness?

Legend of Zelda - A Link To The Past on the SNES.

Commander Keen and Duke Nukem 1
Sensible World of Soccer beats all.
Hated SWOS, almost as much as I loved every version of Sensi before that. I even have it on my mobile ;)

Really? I love the career mode, which is probably the only difference between the games.

As well as the clubs from 65 counties :P.

Chucky Egg = Best Game Ever.*

*unofficial statistic.

I used to love playing the Dizzy games on the 48k Spectrum with the rubber keyboard. My all time favourite though was Skool Daze and I spent weeks trying to complete that sucker.

Don't forget Roland in the Caves, incredible stuff! That knight Time game that was mentioned earlier looks interesting, I think I'll have a look for the rom.

ah! i remember that, incredibly tough though! also Roland in Time was FANTASTIC, (even had the Doctor Who theme, albeit in a really bleepy manner) and Roland goes Skiing, which i didnt get the chance to play! Ahh, the memories....

Sonic was my favourite, I used to play those games for hours. The second one was the best - its two player mode was awesome. I also loved the freedom in that game as you could complete the missions taking a number of various routes (as well as the decision to either complete the level as quickly as possible or to go for the rings). And there was the fact that Sonic is the epitome of coolness. You just can't beat a blue hedgehog.
