The Rock - Why Dont He Just Quit

Recommended Posts

I've just read on the newsboard that The Rocks latest comeback is only expected to be for two months as he's then off to do another film.

I don't know why he bothers, is there really any point in him coming back for 2 months at a time, and it really isn't fair that a part timer is going to come in and steal the main event spot again.

I quite like The Rock, I think his promos are funny and he is an average wrestler, but if he's only going to be around for 4 months a year why doesn't he do the decent thing and retire from wrestling for good?

Publicity.

As long as Rock is still wrestling for WWE, they can bring him in, plug his latest movies, make anges out of it, allow him to put over another guy ready for the big time, then he goes and makes his movie, and WWE gets exposure as all the media cover the movie and knows him as "WWE Superstar: The Rock". So everyone wins.

Thats how it works.

Basically what dra said, plus I believe Vince gets a cut of The Rock's purse from the films he makes, just like he does with Big Show's TV appearances and that sort of thing.

I think The Rock does care about the business (and is making money for WWE), which is why he comes back to put guys over which is more than can be said to varying degrees for HHH, Taker (though he did it for Brock) and Austin, but even though he does a lot for the WWE profile it does look half-assed when he turns up for a few months if that long and becomes instant main-event again regardless of how long he is away, not to mention a slap in the face to guys like Benoit and Eddie Guerrero who continue to give their all by making the actual wrestling so entertaining. I think though that he is doing what he's doing with the best of intentions.

Yeah I agree with what dra and MLM said. It is a bit of a slap in the face to guys who are around all year wresting a hell of a lot of days and who are just off main event for Rock to come in and take the main event slot.

Having said that I think The Rock has a passion for wrestling and doesn't want to fully give it up, particularly as the WWE are struggling so much. Another thing is that if he were to leave the WWE then he wouldn't be able to use the name 'The Rock'. So him staying in the WWE helps get the WWE publicity and also helps the film he may be doing at the time publicity. Vince McMahon also gets an Executive Producer credit in any films he may be in.

Also Rock's first priority is his family and so why should he quit the WWE and his hefty wage package if the WWE are happy to let him go off and do these films?

Not five minutes after I typed that I read that he has recently bought the name 'The Rock' from the WWE. Whether or not that is true...

It would be a terrible shame to see Rock and WWE part ways, because both parties gain so much from each other.

Rock has his fanbase (And if you think the current negative reaction The Rock's name gets, if he left WWE in a bitter split, the heat would be huge...unless Tough Enough and Confidential are still around, lousy heat killers) which he gained from WWE, and these are the people who would go to see "Hiltler-Hilarious: The Nazi Comedy" if it had The Rock playing the role of a camp German. Rock also has a steady income flowing from Vince's pockets, as well as an outlet where he can get on TV on a regular basis.

Of course, WWE gets attention as well as small financial gains from Vince's roles in Rock films, but it's also likely to make people tune into WWE TV to see The Rock.

If The Rock leaves WWE, I for one would not be happy. His mic work is amongst the best in the industry, his in ring work is extremely enjoyable and he's always willing to put younger talent over. Hopefully the morons who boo him because he's doing something with his life, that is a dream to millions, won't affect Rock's decision to stick with WWE.

As for those who boo him...How stupid can you get? Torrie Wilson has been asked to pose for Playboy, and you can bet that she's using WWE as a stepping stone to greater things. So the same people who accuse the Rock of selling out for not turning his back on making millions, so he can work hard to get guys like Jericho over just so HHH can destroy him again 4 weeks later, actually enjoy the fact that Torrie is doing EXACTLTY the same, but with 47% more nudity? That's pathetic.

The Rock is among the top 3 biggest names in the industry right now, and is certainly the most entertaining of all the main eventers this side of Kurt Angle. I'd rather see Rock stay for 2 months and work with younger talent than not see him in WWE all year.

I agree that The Rock is an Icon in the business. But I think a lot of people don't think he is commited anymore, due to the fact that he spends more time making movies than he does Wrestling.

But remember when Hogan left to do movies? Nobody started booing him then. And ok, his movies were crap but he still came back and regained his popularity. The Rock should be able to do that too.

For people who think Rock is bad taking time of wrestling to make movies, in 93 Hogan had the world title put on him at Mania 8 and then took 3 months off to make that crappy TV show about the boat, Hogan didn't attend one Raw taping the whole time he was champion.

He shouldn't quit

  • He's a big draw and over with the fans
  • He's a talented wrestler
  • He's good publicity for the WWE
  • He does all the things that people slate HHH for not doing

Until you know the Rock personally then I don't think you can fully understand the situtation.

From what I've heard, the Rock's body is in pretty bad shape, if he came back and wrestled full time for a few years then it could be even worse, why shouldn't he use his talents to make movie's, make money and make a name for himself. Wrestlign is unpredictable, he's proving he can do both.

i actually don't like that various divas have appeared in porn mags, as the faces are a role model of sorts to people especially young kids since Torrie is a SD! "talent"

I agree that divas being in porn mags isn't much of a role model for young kids.

But there are a lot of females over 18 who watch WWE and I think Torrie is a great role model for them. What she is doing is basically saying "If you look good then get the baps out for the lads"
