I got Smackdown V Raw 2006 yesterday and I played a couple of matches on there, and then I did the exact same match on SVR 2011 and I have to say, I prefered 06!

The gameplay is much more challenging, which I think is what let SVR11 down.

What's your favourite game in the wrestling series?

I really did love Def Jam: FFNY - although my one GREAT hate of it was when you got your supermove (or whatever it was called in those games), it was the freakin' opponent who seemed to get a second wind and would just reverse any attempt to hit it.

Although I didn't play it extensively I enjoyed Fire Pro whatever it was for the Playstation(2?) - some of the animations and back and forth in that were absolutely superb and it was fun guessing who was what. Good, good times with m'bro back in the day.

Whichever Smackdown it was that had Goldberg and Hogan and Lesnar in it - THAT was the best one as far as the roster went. Can't remember anything else about it OTHER than it had Golberg AND Hogan AND Lesnar in it.

That was good enough for me though.

Never really played No Mercy, but I'm expecting a lot of love for it.

While they had no Ladder matches and stuff like that, the WCW N64 games were really good, plus they had loads of Japanese stars in them.
either WWE No Mercy or Wrestlemania 2000 for the N64 are mine. Graphics weren't as good as the PS2 equivalents but man everything else was top notch.
Smackdown 2

It's a toss up between WWF: No Mercy, Fire Pro Wrestling: Returns and Def Jam: Fight for NY (That's if the coin lands on it's side).

I'd probably give the edge to FPW though, as it has (surprisingly) the most robust create-a-wrestler and editing options. The xbox live arcade FPW game can't come out soon enough!

No Mercy on N64. Greatest wrestling game, EVER.
It was either No Mercy or Wrestlemania 2000. They were so similar that it's hard to remember which one was which, but they were both amazing and, if I could still get my N64 to work, I'd still be playing them both today.

Nobody in this thread, except shockingly Jayfunk, has actually paid any attention or indeed answered right. The OP asked what was the best game in the SD vs Raw / SD series.

For me it was here comes the pain. That was the one I enjoyed most.

What is your favourite wrestling game? That's what I see.

Smackdown 2, No Mercy, WCW vs NWO world tour and Giant Gram for me.

Smackdown vs Raw 2011 could taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know ***' I'll never play the filthy interactive sports entertainment simulator.

Love: Smackdown Vs Raw, Fire Pro Series, King of Coliseum 2, VPW 2 & No Mercy.
I'm sure I'd absolutely love Fire Pro, I've just never played it.
No Mercy on N64. Greatest wrestling game, EVER.

This for me as well. I also loved Wrestlemania 2000 and WCW vs The World.

I really liked the All Japan game for the Sega Saturn and Royal Rumble for the Dreamcast was pretty good too.

When it comes to No Mercy and WrestleMania 2000, I slightly prefer the latter because of the story mode (especially if you play through as a CAW and then continue with a different CAW - the first one stays in the story. Keep doing this and you have a roster full of your own creations in the story mode).

On a side note, the version of No Mercy I had was the bugged one that kept resetting itself, meaning all my CAWs were lost (good job I had a memory block to store them on).

I had a bugged copy of No Mercy too. I had to send it back to Nintendo, and they sent me a port of the continental European version which didn't have the bug, but also didn't have any blood.
Hitting people with the ring bells and hearing *Cling* followed by a face full of blood was the best part.

Here Comes the Pain, I'd say is the most enjoyable one to play.

Sadly I've never played No Mercy, the way people always talk about it makes me want to. If I ever find it in a bargain bin anywhere I'm getting it.

When you call the thread 'What is your favourite wrestling game?' and not 'What is your favorite Smackdown game?' then you can see why people have gone with the answers they have.

Also they may never have played a Smackdown game and therefore can only discuss the wrestling games they have played in a natural way of thread evolution.

Anyhoot - back on point...

My favourite Smackdown game was Here Comes The Pain - it didn't have Hogan in it if I remember correctly but it did have Lesnar and Goldberg before they left, Rey in his first apperance, RVD and was just ALOT of fun to play.

After that SD: Shut Your Mouth, the one referenced by JJ, is up there as that had a great roster, it followed the brand split storyline in the wake of the invasion and you even had the nWo (minus Scott Hall) in there as well.

My favourite wrestling games of all time though are Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 on the n64, No Mercy on the n64, Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on the PS2 (Barbed wire C4 deathmatches!) and Super Fire Pro Wrestling X on the SNES.

Yeah, Shut Your Mouth was from around 2002 with the stacked roster, the game's roster was great.

I remember, when I got that game, that was the first time I had ever saw or heard of Edge (among others, but he stands out now). I really liked him too, he was a cool surfer looking dude. That was my sole point of reference when he came back from neck surgery in 2004.

Surfer Edge was way better than Rated-R Edge, imo. Controversial, I know, but there you go.

I have to admit I loved legends of Wrestling, yeah it was clunky, but I just loved the whole idea.

I also loved the acclaim Smackdown game, the one before it went to THQ, where you had a leaderboard and you had to beat the person above you to get to the title shots. Me and my mates loved playing that, with my multitap in tow.

*Happy sigh*
