I'll kick off with two entries: Transformers: I have to admit, part of the reason I waited so long to see this was the deep sense of foreboding that Michael Bay was about to destroy one of the staples of my childhood - and I generally prefer to wait for DVD releases anyway. First off - WRONG! It took seeing the movie to make me see that Transformers just wouldn't work as it was on the "real" movie front. This version is awe inspiring and above all, looks "real". Okay so Optimus Prime is now a huge eighteen wheeler (rather than the flatnose cab he was in the 80's) and Megatron is now a weird alien jet - but it makes sense. It works, and above all else it's a fantastic movie. If I can borrow a wrestling expression I "marked out" several times when there were subtle links to the old series that took me back twenty years. Optimus Prime being voiced by the legendary Peter Cullen as ever helped there (as did dialogue copied directly from the 80's) And my favourite Starscream looking more badass than ever before (An F22 Raptor no less) Michael Bay directed this perfectly IMO. And the CG transformations and robots have to be seen to be believed. :good222: Second film is "Superman Returns" I caught this on Sky movies last night. Excellent film, well done and Brandon Routh played the man of steel perfectly (and has an uncanny resemblance to the great late Christopher Reeve) It was a very good "sequel" to the old movies - explaining why Superman had disappeared for so long, and having a plausible explanation for Lex Luthor (nearly typed Luger there) being at large again (Superman no showed the trial) The effects were epic, and the guy portraying Luthor did a good job (he's not Gene Hackman - but he's good) And there's a classy bit in the credits with a dedication to Christopher and Dana Reeve "with love and respect" - very nice touch. Noooothing's gonna stop us noooow! Great soundtrack to a classic movie, I want to watch it now... Today I watched the majority of the most recent Mr. Bean movie, which as expected was a hit with the younger kids. Not quite as good as the earlier one though.
