Wimbledon 2013

Monday 24th June to Sunday 7th July 2013

Live On The BBC (BBC1, BBC2, Online, Interactive, BBC Sport App, Radio 5 Live)

The 127th anniversary of The Championships or simply Wimbledon, is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and is widely considered the most prestigious. It has been held at the All England Club in the London suburb of Wimbledon since 1877. It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, and the only one still played on grass courts.

The tournament takes place over two weeks in late June and early July, culminating with the Mens Singles Final, scheduled for the second Sunday in July. Each year, five major events are contested, as well as four junior events and four invitational events.

The hard court Australian Open and clay court French Open precede Wimbledon. The hard court U.S. Open follows. The grass court Queen's Club Championships also in London is a popular warm up tournament for Wimbledon.

Wimbledon traditions include the eating of strawberries and cream, royal patronage, and a strict dress code for competitors. Play has often been interrupted by rain, though delays are now reduced with the fitting of a retractable roof to Centre Court.

The grounds will open at 10.30am each day. On Courts 2–19 play is provisionally scheduled to start at Noon for at least the first eight days and then at 11am for the Junior matches on the middle Saturday and during the second week.

On Centre and No.1 Courts play will start at 1pm, except on the final two days when play on these courts will start at 2pm. During the first week the early rounds of the Mens and Ladies Singles, Mens, Ladies and Mixed Doubles will be played on all courts, with top seeds matches played on the show courts. On the middle Saturday the Veterans and Juniors events commence and will be played on the outside courts as well as on some of the Show Courts. The Ladies Singles Final is scheduled for Saturday 6th July, while the Mens Singles Final is scheduled for Sunday 7th July, both on Centre Court!

The draw has been made. Select Men's first-round matches:

Novak Djokovic v Florian Mayer

Andy Murray v Benjamin Becker

Roger Federer v Victor Hanescu

David Ferrer v Martín Alund

Rafael Nadal v Steve Darcis

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga v David Goffin

Tomáš Berdych v Martin Kližan

Sam Querrey v Bernard Tomic

Lleyton Hewitt v Stanislas Wawrinka

Marcos Baghdatis v Marin Čilić

James Ward v Yen-Hsun Lu

Interestingly James Ward could meet Andy Murray in round two which would be a nice event.

Murray v Tsonga

The British ladies first-round matches:

Damn your logic BRM. It still made me smile.

This has really come around, hasn't it?. It was a bit of a jolt to think that Nadal, Murray and Federer are all playing their first round matches tomorrow.

Just been over the French Open prize money as I love doing so much.

Rafael Nadal won the French Open in 243 games, Serena Williams in 116 games.

Rafael Nadal earned €6,172.83 per game, Serena Williams earned €12,931.03 per game

Rafael Nadal earned 53% less than Serena Williams.

EQUALITY.

I've got 20 first round matches in an accumulator today and tomorrow at a combined odds total of just over 3/1. Let's hope nobody Marat Safin's me this year.

No, he didn't. He earned the same. Your argument here is he worked 53% harder for his money. Which isn't the same thing.

Magic, meet Steve Darcis.

Yup.

And yeah King, everyyear at Wimbledon I do a first round acca with all the top seeds, but the odds are awful because the seeds are all like 1/33 and higher. I've won a couple times but, I think it was two years ago maybe three, 19 out of 20 won and it was just Marit Safin that let me down.

I didn't expect it to be King Rafa this year. It must be said though that I'm feeling like I can't lose at this stage, because I would have paid my stake just for Rafa to go out in the first round! :lol

Edit: Turns out it was 2009 I got Safin'd by the qualifier Jesse Levine. 4 years ago, man time flies.
