TPIB 62
I found this interesting article on WrestlingRumors.net. It is a leaked memo that the WWE sent out a couple of years ago with some interesting production notes from Vince & Stephanie McMahon. I thought I would share it here since some of these demands seem kind of silly and will provide an interesting conversation (hopefully): Vince McMahon no longer wants “Granddaddy of them all” using to describe WrestleMania because he feels it makes WrestleMania feel old and dated. Nobody can use the phrase “choke” for a submission move. Undertaker’s Hell’s Gate move was named Triangle submission hold. Producer Kevin Dunn stated that announcers can no longer use the phrase “title changes hands.” Vince banned the use of terms “five star match” and “match of the year.” As part of the memo banning those terms, Vince also wanted all announcers to “stop reading the dirt sheets” with the idea that it influences what they say. Stephanie McMahon sent a memo for announcers to never use the phrase “the referee didn’t see it” when a heel is doing something behind the referees back. She wrote that it makes it seem like the announcers are treating the fans like they are in grade school. Stephanie prefers “the referee’s vision was impaired” or “the referee’s vision was blocked.” Also, never use the word “hatred” or “hate” when describing a feud and the announcers should never say a talent doesn’t care about winning a match. To me, it's kind of a hypocritical notion that Stephanie is worried about treating the fans like children when you look at how they have treated us the past couple of years with the likes of Santino, Brodus Clay, and Hornswoggle. Not to mention they continue to do so with things like Los Matadores.
Guest John Hancock
It's stupid, but it's not new. Vince has been on this silly banning-stuff kick for a while, and Trips and Steph are no better. Try finding an official screenshot of a WWE game where someone's doing a finishing move on Triple H.
Guest Ciaran The King
This really doesn't surprise me as the WWE/McMahon's have been making these type of demands for years now, it just makes them look immature and petty

Guest Edgehead
I always liked "granddaddy of them all" to describe Wrestlemania, and what the hell is wrong with "title changes hands"
Guest Ciaran The King
I find it all so ironic from a company that gave us the Vince/Trish segment, Katie Vick and HLA!!!!!!
Guest HH-Evolution
I fail to see how comedy characters and a new tag-team with a fun mascot is treating the adult fans as kids. Some folks see there being no need for them, which is absolutely not true - they're for the live audiences and for the moments intended to give the more serious angles some time to settle in and breathe so that the crowd aren't overstimulated...so yeah, they're totally necessary! As an aside, I do likes me an occasional comedy moment...and the talent doing it already are as good as can be expected, really. Back on topic though...yeah, this doesn't surprise me whatsoever, the mcmahons are known as absolute control freaks!
Guest Boyo
what the hell is wrong with "title changes hands" I can't claim to be the author of those production notes but to me it doesn't sound very dramatic, or earned. "Title changes hands" implies that the champion gave the title to the challenger as he would a Xmas gift. Cheers!
Guest Ciaran The King
I agree, the comment 'title changes hands' is used the world over so why they would want to stop using it is beyond me
Omega 354
See, that's the problem with a "leaked" production note. You've no context as to why they thought these changes needed to be made. Lets imagine for a second no one had reported Roy Hodgsons "space monkey" joke and you'd seen a leaked memo from the FA saying "England managers must not tell jokes at half time" you'd think it ridiculous. Do we know that if WWE kept on using a phrase like a title changing hands that implied they were a sports organisation and then that made them have to conform to some other rules or regulations or made them liable for something they normally aren't? Something that could maybe cost them millions if they had to comply with even thought it's not a real sport?
Guest The Beltster
Same lame bullshit from the McMahon's who spend way too much time banning nonsense like this and not enough time on producing good TV. F*ck them.
Guest Ciaran The King
Maybe it's WWE having to please yet more potential sponsors
