According to reports, the launch of the Xbox One in Japan was an abysmal failure.

At one store, a single person turned up to purchase the console, while at another, there was a queue of around half-a-dozen folk braving the front line to get one of Microsoft's latest piece of kit.

Microsoft Japan released the following optimistic statement.

“We have high expectations as this machine is loaded with graphics that will surely satisfy game players.”

The X-Box has always done sucky numbers is Asia, it is very much a console loved by the western markets whilst the Japanese love themselves some Playstation.

Look at the launch date, that tells you they knew it would fail in this market sector.

Ok but it bombed in the west too really. It has undersold ridiculously since day one.
It bombed because the games industry has kinda gone to s**t in the last year or so.People only seem interested in COD/GTA and FIFA nowadays.

Where are you getting your information or are you just making things up for fun?

It has undersold PS4, so if you are comparing those numbers then fair enough, but it has outsold the 360 in the same timeframe and has moved 5 million units. Its sales have increased since they stopped forcing people to have to buy Kinect with it and dropped the price. Sales numbers are all on the increase for the system. Once its system exclusive big boys like HALO and Tomb Raider come out I imagine that will increase sales even more.

So, it hasnt bombed whatsoever, its just not keeping pace with PS4.

Nothing keeps pace with the PlayStation, ever since 1997 the Playstation brand has lead in console sales.

I'm not quiet sure why these days as I prefered the 360 to the PS3 and prefer the One to the PS4 although the guy in charge of Microsoft did bungle a lot during the build up and launch which couldn't have helped.

I wouldn't say that; games / ideas like The Last of Us, Alien Isolation, Evolve, etc, the rise of the "indie" cycle of great games (especially on Playstation Plus) and the overwhelming success of PS4 all point to it being on the up.

With Grand Theft Auto, you have to remember that was possibly THE event game of 2013 as it had been 5yrs since the previous release, so people going ape over it is perfectly understandable and Call of Duty: Ghosts was widely considered a disappointment by the COD communities (if online reports are to be believed).

If you're only talking about Japan, then you are most likely correct, but if you're talking worldwide, XBox 360 sold more than the PS3 (84 million compared to 80 million), while the Wii with over 100 million trounced them both.
Ok fair enough Beltster. I only knew the numbers concerning it underselling ps4. I had no idea it was selling so much more than 360 did. I realize how much of a fanboy I sounded like. Which is funny considering I never even liked any sony systems until ps3 and I preferred xbox360. Until last generation I preferred Nintendo over anything else.

This is true I was staying in Japan when the XB1 came out and all my Japanese friends asked me if I was going to buy one because I was american and this is the console for americans and I had to explain that not even Americans like the thing.
