I know two of these people from bridesmaids (yes I just admitted that), but the two in the middle I have no idea, ghostbusters was/is my favourite film ever so badly I wanted to be one when I was older (parents got slightly worried at the time)

 

I'm willing to give it a chance but it's not looking good, not because it's an all female cast but because that McCarthy woman is in it and she is just dire in anything I have seen her in.

 

I hope they don't ruin my childhood forever but I fear they might, sad times we live in :(

Ghostbusters is one of those films where no remake will ever come remotely close to the original. They should leave it be.

Just dont watch it that was the childhood will not be ruined. I have no intention of seeing this as people have said the original Ghostbusters is quite possibly one of the best movies and should never have been remade. If it was a sequel it might just be palatable but not a remake.

It won't ruin your childhood; the original will still exist and will still be as good as it ever was.

Ghostbusters is one of those films where no remake will ever come remotely close to the original. They should leave it be.

As great as Ghostbusters is, nostalgia will always favour comparisons to the older material (look at the Attitude Era's plaudits when, in reality, an awful lot of it was horrible).

 

They should remake it for the same reason I feel any movie is open to be remade (after a decent period of time has elapsed or if it's from one language / culture to another); to bring the story to a new audience. The old horror classics have been retold and reinterpreted through the decades, bringing the story to a new audience who, after enjoying "their" version, will seek out the older ones and enjoy them too.

At the moment, I would much rather a remake than Ghostbusters 3. The latter would mean either recasting Peter Venkman and Egon Spengler or writing them out and bringing new characters in anyway, while a totally past-his-prime Ray Stantz and unfortunately-never-had-a-prime Ernie Hudson wheeze around New York.

 

Ghostbusters II was fun, but that was not a patch on the first one, even with Bill Murray on board (who, incidentally, didn't really want to do it). An all-female remake at least offers something different and avoids completely direct comparisons to the old cast.

Its a shame they didn't/couldnt/whatever use the video game story for the 3rd film, that would have made a great movie. Oh well.

That game was all kinds of great. A lot of people consider it to be the unofficial Ghostbusters 3 anyway.

I thought the game was better than Ghostbusters 2.

Got to say I agree that the original Ray Parker Jr theme song has to get an airing in this film. I'll happily accept a new track made for this film by Neyo or whoever, as long as they use the old track as well.

 

The film itself should be pretty decent with that cast. Would have loved Tina Fey as a Ghostbuster but you can't have everything :).

I think it looks OK, better than I expected! I can see my nieces and nephews enjoying it.

I can understand all the hate it's getting due to the originals being such classics, but I think McCarthy and Wiig will work well!

Looks alright, certainly no worse than the awful sequel. Nothing will match the original so trying to compare the two is pointless, enjoy it for what it is or don't watch it.
