Omega 354
Good news for everyone involved at Lotus. There's probably a half decent car in there somewhere and with the right investment they could really do something next season.
Omega 354
McLaren have re-signed sponsorship with Santander. Whilst this is obviously good news for the team it should also give strong indications that Alonso is sticking around for at least next year. The new Lotus/Renault team say they will make the first test, which seems ambitious given that they'll have to stick a Renault engine in a car built around a merc engine but at least it's positive in that there's no funding issues preventing them getting track time. Bernie still wants an independent engine manufacturer running some kind of cheap spec engine. Don't see it happening.
BRM 220
Would that be like the days of Mugen-Honda and Cosworth? Its funny how all the Red Bull/Volkswagen Audi rumors died down at pretty much the same time that the emissions scandal became public. Losing Red Bull really would of been a disaster, their young driver program has unearthed some real stars who would of probably made it eventually but needed someone to give them that break. The very public divorce with Renault has been extremely shoddy though. When they were winning with a Renault engine it was Newey getting the plaudits but when they were not quite at the front the blame was very much at Renaults feet. Of course they have the data to tell you where the short comings are, but what happened to winning as a team and losing as a team?
Omega 354
Would that be like the days of Mugen-Honda and Cosworth? More like back when Cosworth was supplying all the new teams except you're talking about a different specification of engine, which is where the concept falls down for me. They want a cheap alternative to a merc/ferrari/honda/renault but if they manage to make a different spec engine half the price but just as good as a merc or ferrari then all the other teams will use it and then the engine is effectively homogenised. Its funny how all the Red Bull/Volkswagen Audi rumors died down at pretty much the same time that the emissions scandal became public. I didn't think it was serious to be honest, looking at how Honda have suffered unless Audi had secretly been working on an engine for F1 for the last 2 years then why try and come in with 6 months in hand to build a brand new concept? Losing Red Bull really would of been a disaster, their young driver program has unearthed some real stars who would of probably made it eventually but needed someone to give them that break. The very public divorce with Renault has been extremely shoddy though. When they were winning with a Renault engine it was Newey getting the plaudits but when they were not quite at the front the blame was very much at Renaults feet. Of course they have the data to tell you where the short comings are, but what happened to winning as a team and losing as a team? Renault aren't part of the team though. It would be like saying your car make was bad because you put unleaded in a diesel. RB build the car and have to take what Renault give them. the interesting thing will be to see how they play things if this new unbadged Renault that is effectively there own engine is shite. The Fury 65
The bbc is as they put it 'very reluctantly' ending it's contract with airing F1 3 years earlier than planned due to cutying costs. What's the racers fans thoughts on this?
BRM 220
Sadly been on the cards for a while now. There's a great deal of politics in play here and the BBC have probably had their hands forced. I'd like to see David Coulthard join the Sky team now, he's a step up in terms of punditry compared to Johnny Herbert and Damon Hill. He'd fit in well alongside Anthony Davidson. Channel 4 is a interesting home for terrestrial Formula 1, of course they do show Motorsport already but usually stick it on at 6am on a weekend. I'll wait to see their plans before commenting. Guest Magic
I only watch Sky's coverage so I'm not arsed that the beeb are cutting it. Agreed with Brum, I hope DC comes over to Sky and joins the team. If I never hear from Herbert again that would be fine. Wouldnt be against Eddie joining Sky either to be honest. A team of Brundle, DC, Jordan, Davidson and Hill would do me. I actually dont mind Damon even though he seems to get a lot of pelters. Paul Di Resta is always good to have around too, but he's still got some juice in the tank to race himself so I guess we'll only see him sparingly. I wouldnt actually mind if the BBC cut some of its other sports like the snooker and tennis. Sky generally do a superior job of production that I would be quite happy for them to have everything. BBC's coverage of sport has been half assed for years and Id rather see them with a dedicated sports network who will give them the proper coverage they deserve. I'm already excited to see what they do with the British Open. Yeah it sucks for people who dont have Sky and there is an argument that the greater exposure on free tv would be more beneficial to a sport than a dedicated channel, but selfishly as someone who pays his sky sports and believe he gets excellent value out of it, the more they have the better. Omega 354
A side note is channel 4 have bought a large stake in the production company that Coulthard and Jake Humphries own so I'd suspect he'll stick around there at a guess. Eddie Jordan can fuck off, he may get told all the F1 secrets but he annoys my tits off. Lee McKenzie needs to replace Natalie Pinkham like yesterday though. Guest Laffy
Hey I love Eddie Jordan and Damon Hill, I loved it when he owned the cars because he would always moan about something and have to be calmed down I can see channel four doing a Zclare Balding and ask them to go over to their channel to commentate who else do they want as they will not want to go all new in case that turns away viewers.
