I can't recall when my interest in stories about health practitioners started to disappear. Perhaps it was because of the similar structure of these shows. I tend to stay away from anything related to medicine on the telly and find something else. I couldn't even imagine keeping up with so many episodes of Grey's Anatomy or House. Should I give it a try once more?

I've always had a hard time with shows like these because they're so dramatic and often do not reflect reality. I love real-life shows about hospitals. I also enjoy real-life shows about detectives, but not the detectives TV shows.
The only hospital show I ever watched regularly was Scrubs. It managed to steer away from the formulaic structure that so many hospital shows seem to follow. Each patient doesn't have some crazy health crisis that they solve at the last minute. Sometimes that happens, but they tie it in with the rest of the show in a realistic and poignant way. It's also hilarious.

No, I don't think you should give it a try once more if you really already know that this type of show isn't your cup of tea. But then again, who knows, you might find that your taste has changed. Like how I used to hate beets when I was a kid, now they are one of my favorite vegetables... that sort of thing. Tastes in music, food, TV viewing etc. can change across the board.

I like to watch reality medical shows, but scripted shows, not so much. If I'm not mistaken, I think the only scripted medical show that I've ever watched with any kind of consistency is the soap opera General Hospital, and mainly because I like soaps, not because I like hospital 'shows'.

Tastes change. After all, I have nothing against these medical series except their plot dynamics. Like @AlexMack's comment, one day we would be too familiar with the pattern that we don't feel the tension anymore. I assume that I just haven't found the one to entertain me long enough. Perhaps I should switch to the reality shows indeed.

Did any of you see The Good Doctor? I think it is fairly new, so maybe it does something different compared to the old ones.

@Glimm I haven't seen The Good Doctor, although when it first came out I thought that I was going to watch at least a couple episodes, but so far, no, hasn't happened. It seems interesting enough, maybe I will eventually check it out.

After thinking about this question a bit, I realized that there is a medical show that I watched, a show called Doc Martin. Not a typical medial series to be sure. I devoured those episodes. The scenery was always so beautiful, and the actor who played Doc Martin did a great job.

@Glimm, it's perfectly natural to get bored with something that follows a formula. I usually find that once I step away from them for long enough, I can go back to them and find them more entertaining. Sometimes though, I just outgrow them. What medical shows did you used to watch?
@AlexMack I am hesitant to jump back in because I don't want to waste my time on something that I will get bored with eventually. I used to jump from a show to another, trying to find which really clicked with me. I tried Grey's Anatomy, House, and Saving Hope; the last even had a supernatural touch to the plot. I think I saw clips of Doc Martin but didn't check further. If that is really how these stories work, I wonder why the producers are making so many episodes and series, as the format often backfires on viewerships and ratings.

@Glimm, I totally get that. Why waste your time? I've only watched House out of the ones you mentioned. It was entertaining for a bit but then the formulaic nature was just too strong. I've heard good things about Nurse Jackie but have yet to watch it. It sounds similar to House to me, but my friends swear it's less formulaic. I'm sure I'll get around to it one day.

I guess that they typically do pretty well. I mean, how long has Grey's Anatomy been on the air? It must be popular enough to justify still being around.
