I love my pets. Truly. I just want to sleep later than 5:00 a.m. for a change. I miss sleeping without an animal attached to me and taking a shower without "help".

I love pets, but I haven't had my own in years. I don't miss the responsibility, nor pet deposits or ongoing financial commitment.
I miss...taking a shower without "help".

Okay, I'm really curious about this. What kind of pet do you have that actually wants to be anywhere near the shower? I've only owned cats and dogs but they never had any interest in being anywhere near the shower when it's on. My dog never even goes in the bathroom (not since his first bath there). I did have one cat who liked to be around if someone was taking a bath. I still have no idea why. Nala was a strange cat.

Anyway:

The Good: I feel like this is obvious. They're great companions, entertaining, awesome, etc.

The Bad: Unless your pet is going with you, you can't make any spontaneous trips. Each time you leave the house, you have to feel the guilt as they watch you leave with extreme sadness in their eyes.

The Ugly: Once you have your first pet, you'll start judging people based on whether or not they like that animal. You'll think it tells you a lot about who they are as a person.

My dog and cats love the shower. I have to watch them so they don’t get in

Fascinating, @BamBamsGurlMoo. I WISH my dog would be obsessed with the shower. Giving him a bath would be infinitely easier if that was the case. I'm sure that comes with its own annoyances though.

Both the cats and dogs I've owned have loved to "help" with MY showers. That doesn't mean that they want a shower though. The cats mostly just stare at me and tell me I'm doing wrong. They usually try showing me the tongue bath method that they prefer. Really, I think they're protecting me from evil people who might break into the house while I'm bathing. I call it guard duty. Heaven forbid you get one tiny droplet of water near them while they're pulling guard duty though.

So your pup isn't big on baths? It sounds like he was traumatized. In the past mine have liked to swim and play in the water, but they didn't enjoy being bathed and dried.

I feel compelled to downvote this simply because my cat is in my lap judging you so hard. I'm going to hold back though. The Queen of de'Floof is merciful that way.

*whispers* Those are some good points, Zack T.

Close your door! It breaks my heart to close the door on my cats at night, but I know that if I don't, I will regret it, because they will be scratching at my leg in the morning, or they'll run over me. The downside of having cats, to me, is the traveling. I love traveling, but I always need to find someone to watch my cats while I'm gone.

Ah, I see the distinction now! That sounds like a very cat-like thing to do. They are the masters of judging. Hey, I'd take a guard cat/dog while I'm in the shower. That's always been a fear of mine.

Maybe he was. I think he's just stubborn. He'll swim all day but the second the bath or shower turns on, he's gone. I just don't think he likes that feeling of confinement. Or he likes the way he smells.

That's always heartbreaking.
