I dislike those aggressive autoplaying videos with a fiery passion. The most offensive ones are those that seem to crawl down the page as I scroll to read the article. I'm thankful that they don't autoplay sound, but they're still super annoying and distracting. Some of them don't even advertise anything, so I don't get why content creators are plugging them in all over the place. I've tried googling for different ways to stop them, but nothing seems to work long-term. Have you all found a way to block them? What purpose do they serve when there's no ads?

Those videos are extremely annoying and I think that it is possible to disable them depending on the browser you are using. You can also search for good Ad blockers since most of them work just fine. I remember installing one such ad blocker and some sites would detect it then request me to disable the extension.

 

Ads are a huge revenue stream for most of these websites but that doesn't mean that these ads should be everywhere!

I think it's an effort to combat the short attention spans that are supposedly prevalent today. A moving video gets and keeps the readers' attention so they'll stay on the website longer. That might be rubbish, I'm just guessing really. I'm not sure which browser you're using but try adding the Noscript browser extension, or something similar, and see if that helps.

Ugh, I despise those things. I have a good ad blocker so I don't normally see them. Sometimes, one sneaks through, and it's always some weird news story on 1000% volume blasting through my speakers. It makes me jump half the time.

After all these years, we are still at the mercy of advertisers who can get into our personal computers and do what they want. There has be a remedy for this that goes way beyond ad blockers.

@Snarky-Guru the problem is that most times, these ads have nothing to do with what that website is all about. Again, irrespective of the time-span of these videos, a website visitor will probably close the site if these ads become repetitive.

 

@TynBox surely there has to be a solution though I doubt if this will happen soon.

I kept getting a lingerie video around Valentine's Day. It was complete with a laughable story about a woman lounging in that company's underwear, waiting for her lover in a swanky hotel room, of course with a glass of champagne in hand. It made me dislike the day even more.

Never say never. Maybe put your IP address on a "No Call List" the way we do with our phone numbers.

 

Bring the old solutions like that into modern technology?
