Hey all, I'm new here to this wrestling forum, but believe me, I have been watching wrestling for a long time. Aren't you all sick of those who are plain and simply just out to critique wrestling entertainment? It seems they have taken somethin that they grew up loving and turned into something hated and useless. Somebody better tell them to turn on Summerslam 90, to watch the Tornado battle Perfect. Remember that match?? It was between two of the best midcarders of all time! And guess what, it lasted probably about 3 minutes, with Texas Tornado giving him Perfect the tornado punch for the win. I love that match, and I still love wrestling today. Do you think those online wrestling journalists critiqued those matches back then, and sucked the fun right out of them? I think not, they enjoyed it for what it is, good 'ol entertainment. What about the main event for that Summerslam? It was Hulk Hogan Vs. Earthquake. There was a disqualification, at a PPV! Did these fans complain and whine about it? NO! And think of it, back then, there were only 3 or 4 PPV's at the time! They didn't see 3 or 4 shows a week either, and I guarentee you those fans never complained a bit, they loved the excitement, the loved the athleticism, they loved.....professional wrestling. Your thoughts, please....

to say that wrestling was and should be like Hogan vs Earthquake is really not the way forward, it's steping back to a time that dinosaurs roamed the sqaured circle.

the fans have moved on from that period Mookie, most of them don't want to see stuff like that anymore.

really the main problem seems to be the bookers and Vince's state of mind. they can't seem to adjust to what most of the fans want.

oh and what does critique mean :D

critique means being a critic to wrestling, reviewing and opinionating, which isn a bad ting, but the internet writers have taken somethin they loved and turned it into somethin they hate, sucking then fun out of wrestling for us and them. Remember the time when there was no such things as spoilers? I personally dont read them, but so many do, that the wwe live audience always knows what to expect because of some"rumor"thye heard. That didnt happen before. As for Hogan and Earthquake, it was merely an example. I am fully aware that the fans today need action,my basic point was that we enjoyed the show for what it was, entertainment. We enjoyed watching the hogans and the earthquakes, even if their characters persona was one-dimensional. I realize that the audience of today is somewhat more sophisticated, but the need to have the same roots of the audience of old. Don't critique it, enjoy it cause its somethin you love. It's like taking a hobby, playing guitar for example, and bashing all the parts you don't know about, are uninformed about, or just dont care for, and then using that information you supposedly believe and exploit the entire hobby, making guitar playing not enjoable. Thats what is becoming of the industry of professional wrestling.

However, a fan of classical music will always critisce Rock music as being a mess of noise, a fan of sophisticated food will critisise McDonalds of being bland...a fan of techinal wrestling/strongtyle/Lucha will critisise the WWE of being a shambles, as a fan of the technical side of wrestling I want to see good transitions and not HHH humping a dummy. Its because we are embarrased by what the WWE has become that we become critiques.

...Wait, I'm not here

Alright, the HHH with the dummy is different, that is and will be the worst angle ever presented in the history of wrestling. I think you are still missing the point. Of course Lucha and Mexican wrestling fans don't like the WWE, and the see it as a shamble, I couldnt agree more. But I'm talking solely about the WWE fans, past and present. Lucha fans didnt like WWE when it was in the 80's and 90's so why would they like it now? I'm speaking of the fans of WWE, past present and future....
no, you were talking about wrestling
Welcome to the forums Mookie :xyx
I think its obvious that my scrutiny was of WWE, hence my examples of Tornado, Perfect, Earthquake, and Hogan. I'm not about to argue on a topic which has no relevance to my first statement.....What was explained in my first post would be most understood by myself, thank you very much

Sorry... smark and proud over here.

It's always more fun to be negative. Plus right now, the WWE deserves all the criticism it gets.

Thanks for reminding me of that 5 star encounter between Earthquake and Hogan though! :)

OK, as far as fans critiquing matches back then, guess what?, yes they did, just not at the same level as they do today, (without knowing my facts, for that I apologise) a guy named Dave Meltzer (yes he did exsist before the Internet) released a newsletter called The Wrestling Observer (which is still going today) which had a huge following with the smart marks (as they would they be called today) critiqued every WWF PPV (which got a lot of heat from the WWF). Did it turn people away from the WWF...no, why not? because the WWF was fresh and the matches were good (you mentioned Perfect vs Von Erich, Savage vs Steamboat was another outstanding match).

The WWE is not enjoyable today (I'm not going to say wrestling, as I'm a bigger fan of wrestling than I was 15 years ago). Because they re-hash old gimmicks, the matches are of dire quality, and no longer seem to push the most talented wrestlers, just those who are more vocal backstage, sure the WWE has its redeming moments (Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit from the Royal Rumble for example) but sadly for the WWE their prime is past them, and the company is decaying weekly, that is why people don't enjoy the WWE anymore and that is why the TV and smark mark ratings suck for the WWE!

I guess I am also being quite hypocritical in my statements, I am also a smark, and definitely proud, probably too proud. I guess my only beef is the spoilers, and the way the internet has an effect on characters persona's, how it can and probably has stirred up controversial issues in the locker room. Even if it's open stated that it doesnt happen, I think wrestlers still know what fans are saying, and how they are reacting to them, and that can hrt a performance in the ring if its on a wrestlers mind. I just think that in the 80's and early 90's wrestling was clean slated, the controversy and politics were there, but man oh man, I dont think any wrestler whined nearly as much as some of the ones today. Tazz is a prime example, first he is brought in and stops Kurt Angles win streak, and slowly steps outta the spotlgiht, thrown into a announcing job, that he moaned about, saying he wanted to wrestle. Then the WWE asks him to lace 'em up, and he says he only wants to announce. If my boss asks me to do somethin, I do it, I dont whine!!!!!

Touche......But what do you think the WWE can do to fix some of this, what wrestlers should be pushed, I have heard OVW has some great talent waiting to be unleashed. Also, i heard that wrestling goes in cycles, how long do you think it will take fo the WWE to start hitting the 6.0 Nielsen ratings again, or higher, for those Mick Foley "Rock, This Is Your Life" lovers???

I think recent history has dictated that people are no longer happy with the 5 move big guys, or those "juiced up", people like Nick Dinsmore, Nova, Lance Cade (who wrestled as Garrison Cade on Raw last week) all deserver their chance in the big time, moving further afield, Samoa Joe (6'2 280lbs) is a "big guy" who can wrestle, Low-Ki, Chris Daniels, American Dragon, have and still get rave reviews in many matches they wrestle in, Red, Paul London and Jody Fleisch would fit the cruiserweight division well (if the CW's recieve a decent enough push).

The thing with the Foley this is your life thing was it was a one off, just like you could never duplicate a Flair - Steamboat match again.

In my humble opinion a 6.0 rating will never be reached again.

I'm almost tired of explaining this...we/I/us don't just slag something off at random, if we/I/us don't see something we like, we say so. To not say so would be stupid as no change would occour. It's not as if we/I/us get enjoyment out of slatting something, i'm a pro wrestling fan, as in I like to see GOOD pro wreslting, no matter of the promotion.

As soon as things pick-up in WWE i'll start being critical of their product. Until then, you're damn right i'm going to be critical of it.

The question is, will things ever pick-up in WWE?...the answer is a probable "no" with the wedding in October. Triple H and Stephanie would rather run the company into the ground than give-up their spots.

I also believe Mookie is looking through glass eyes, go back and serach for some show reports of the early-1990's shows you mentioned, and they'll be some surprises for ya;)

I completely agree with Singhy. Everyone has the right to complain about something they don't like. If you don't like something in wrestling, why the hell shouldn't you be allowed to rip the hell out of it?

I think that the wwe is having a little trouble with there writers and stuff, but i am positive that they will come out of it. I was talking to a freind the other night, and he brought up how nice it would be to have russo doing the writing for the wwe agian. Remember when all of the story lines were good and you loved watching the show? Well its prolly because russo was doing the writing. I consider him to be the best writer of all time, and i for one would have no objections to him coming back to wwe.

-Ring General

Russo, best writer of all time?...I may use that quote in my signiture in the future.

Did you happen to miss his piss-poor WCW tenure?...GI Bro, worked-shoots, Steiner as champion etc etc etc etc.

Russo was a good writer in the attitude days, when he had Vince McMahon giving him the final say, but then we had full roam in WCW, after attitude he was terrible. To be fair, he's ok these days, sometimes has some good stuff, other times so bad stuff.

Jim Cornette and Paul Heyman are probably the best writers of wrestling WWE has at their disposal.
