Ok, now, Michael Owen? Explain to me what he's done in the last 12 months that makes him in terms of performances one of the 35 top performers in the world? Ditto that for Ryan Giggs. Theo Zagorakis? He had a good Euro 2004, no doubt. What about the rest of the year bearing in mind that the Euro's is a grand total of 6 matches. Same could be said of Milan Baros.

 

Meanwhile the best midfielder/2nd best midfielder in world football depending on what Pavel Nedved's playing like that week, Patrick Vieiram doesn't even make the list while perrenial can't be bothered to put in a decent performance week in week out, Zinedine Zidane gets in there for helping France get knocked out of the Euro's at the quarter finals and doing the same for Real Madrid in the Champions League. And as for his Primera Division form, I'm not sure form's the right word. You notice he's playing one in every four games.

 

On a more positive note, so chuffed for Frank Lampard to be in there. He's been England's best midfielder at club level, and at international level for a while now and I'm glad it's being recognised. He's magnificent and deserves to be in the top 35 in the world.

 

Same goes for Henrik Larsson. Definitely deserves it. Always great for Sweden and his accomplishments for Celtic will forever go unequalled.

I do get really p*ssed of when I see guys like Figo, Ronaldo and Owen in their. There their because FIFA thinks they are they best players in the world without apparently having watched them for at least 2 years. For Gods sake, theres 7 Real players there. What the f*ck have they done to warrent any of their players being in that list. Im absolutely shocked Viera isn't there. What are the odds he would have been had he moved to Madrid in the Summer? Always good to see a Welshman there. To be honest he hasn't bee the worst player on that list by a longshot. But you have towonder how much football the guys running FIFA actually watch. And iv'e said it before, I'll say it again. Seff Blater is a knob. Who knows as much about football as your average Manchester United fan.

To be honest Viera doesn't belong on the list he had a horrible euro 2004 but then again wtf is Michael Owen David Beckham or Giggsy doing on the list but in the end it doesn't really matter because I think its only between 2 player

It's really just a case of people making up the numbers. I have to laugh when they call it a "short-list"; 35 players is no bloody short-list! It must be really bugging FIFA that Real and all the rest of the hotshots came nowhere in last year's Champions League, while the same thing happened in Euro 2004. Porto and Greece are hardly the most glamourous of teams.

 

Personally I think it has to go to Nedved. I too am surprised that Viera didn't make it. Arsenal seem to have been largely ignored. I'm sure the only reason Pires and Henry are in is because of their high profile with France. Another thing is the lack of defenders; Maldini made it in, but how about Carvalho who won the European Cup with Porto and had a really good Euro 2004? Or Sol Campbell?

 

Anyway, I won't nitpick too much. Like I said, it's no short-list, and as long as the right player wins in the end, that's all that matters.

 

By the way, completely agree about Blatter. This is the clown who wanted to make the goals bigger not so long ago, the same clown who will not allow video evidence to determine whether a ball has crossed the line, the same clown who makes players go out and play in 110 degree heat for the benefit of television schedules, the same clown who says that the ref in the Man City/Everton game a few weeks back shouldn't have sent off Cahill, despite the fact that his directive tells referees to do just that!

 

He's also corrupt as f***. Needless to say I have more footballing knowledge in what I coughed up last night than that man has in his entire body

On the Sepp Blatter side I have to echo all the comments already made, the guys a complete arse. Bugs me as a United fan that he has the cheek to argue with Sir Alex Ferguson, like the two deserve to be mentioned in the same breath.

 

Didn't Sam Allardyce have something to say recently, about his only goal is to promote international football above club football because without international football FIFA would be irrelevant, I think he hit the nail on the head. Thing is although most people love supporting their country, club football is the bread and butter on which football survives.

 

What about the World Club Championship, Sepps way of trying to tap into the success of club football? I personally would love to see a World Club Championship, but not if it means whisking teams away from mid-season to Brazil for a fortnight to take part in a balls up of a competition which nobody actually cared about which I believe ended up being won by a club who wasn't actually champion of it's own confederation.

 

What about the skimpy shorts for women footballers comment, the guy is a complete joke.

This was indeed experimented with at a lower league level, maybe evn the autoglass shield. It was indeed very poor.

Adriano is the best player in the world at the moment in my opinion, makes henry look avarage but ronaldinho would probably get my vote as he has been more consistently brilliant over the last year, i think he will win, the english media will start bullshiting if henry doesn't win. All the real madrid players in it is a joke, too many nominees as well, they should narrow it down to about 10.

For me it's between Ronaldinho and Adriano, maybe Henry has a chance, for outside shots who should be considered I'd have thought out of that list that Henke, Nedved, Kaka and Lampard deserve some recognition.

 

They're alwasy going to have their favourites, but the Real Madrid selections are still baffling when they've won nothing and been poor. Raúl has had possibly his worst season ever, Figo and Zidane have been passengers in most games, Roberto Carlos hasn't been brilliant, Ronaldo hasn't been that great, Beckham fizzled out after the turn of the year more or less apart from a couple of free-kicks, while Owen has been bloody awful and hasn't been a player worthy of this kind of nomination since at least 2001.

 

The only thing that I think has been good about these nominations over the years is that Henrik Larsson has actually been nominated while being a Celtic player, so fair play to FIFA for that as many other so-called football 'experts' chose instead to slag off Henke by saying he couldn't make it in a 'proper league', despite his goals in Europe for Celtic and for Sweden internationally, then as soon as he goes to Barcelona and proves that he in fact is good enough in the Spanish league suddenly the same people who dismissed him before are now desperate to brown-nose him and say that they knew how good he was because of his record at Celtic. Er... the same record at Celtic that they thought was irrelevant until he signed for Barcelona? Yes, that one.

 

I would expect Ronaldinho to win, but Adriano would be my other choice out of those who realistically could be chosen to win it. If I'm being biased I'd like Henke to win really, but I wouldn't expect it.
