Worst ending........Ever!

I just completed the Mortal Kombat Deception 'Konquest' mode today, and I have to say, what an utter ass stink of an ending! I won't go into detail, because people may still be playing. It did get me thinking however, of the worst game endings ever. MK is bad, but after slugging my way through Fight Night 2004 in the heavyweight division on the hard difficulty, I expected far more than, 'You are now 40, it's time to retire,Game Over'. Royston Vasey would have blushed, if he had heard the words that left my lips.

So 'What is, he worst game ending ever?'

I think any game that says once you've completed it "Congratulations, you've completed the game! Now complete medium, hard and expert mode!"

You think you've accomplished something but you havn't!

I can't remember the name of the game, but it was years ago on the NES. It was a isometric-scrolling shoot-em-up, when you finished the game it said congratulations and gave you an extra life, then finished. I just satt there waiting for it to start again with my extra ship, but it never did. I'm still there now.

Ace Combat 4 had a very poor ending, Not having plaid Halo2 I wouldn't know, but the last level/section of Halo1 is so dreadful as to mar the rest of the game..

Devil May Cry 2 was indeed one of the worst endings ever.He beats the final boss, turns to the girl, say a few words to her, gets on a motorcycle and split. The End. Let us hope DMC 3 has alot more going for it from start to finish than DMC 2 did. :evil

"Driller" for the Commodore 64 was literally impossible to beat (the programmers admitted as much a few months after it came out) so the fact that game has no ending at all must put it pretty high up.

I complete so few games that I'm not all that qualified to say...

What a great thread. :)

I think most of the Spectrum games qualify if anyone else used to have one of those. Because the whole computer was only 48k (or 128k in the later stages), this meant that almost any game left hardly any space for a decent ending, so most of the time it was just 'congratulations, you won' stuff which was really annoying especially when it was a hard game.

I remember a game called 'Myth: History In The Making' for the Spectrum, which was quite possibly the best game ever as you were basically a guy having to collect stuff and fight through Greek mythology and mythical history which in the late eighties was actually quite a refreshing idea for a platform game, but again the ending was poor, I struggle to remember whether it was just one of those congratulations endings or whether something happened (something rings a bell about being back on the Viking boat for some reason) but after the struggle of completing the game and the originality that the game had you fooled yourself into thinking that the ending might also be good whereas it was just like most Spectrum games where not very much at all happened.

Nowadays though there's really no excuse for that sort of lame ending as there should be plenty of room left in the capacity of whatever system you're using to put together a proper ending.

Speaking of Halo 2, what's the music like on it? I heard that Steve Vai did it so I'm interested, but I thought it might be more film soundtrack type stuff so I haven't really looked into it. Any thoughts or descriptions?

Myth was absolutely tremendous. The remixed version that came out on the Amiga in '91 was a bit iffy, though.

My BF is obsessed with Halo 2, and says the musics fantastic, even though it sounds rubbish to me :) Theres a Making of Halo 2 thing on mtv2 alot, and that has about about the music. But Halo 1 inspired him to write his bands best song called Kill the light, so I wont moan :)

On 'When Games Attack' last night, they had a top five 'Worst Endings to a video game' This is what it looked like:

5) Pro Evolution Soccer 3

4) Medal of Honor 'Rising Sun'

3) Quake 2

2) Devil May Cry

1) Resident Evil

I disagree with them. They all had an ending, I thought was kinda acceptable ( Not played PES, but they showed what ending it had.) except Medal Of Honor, which just had the credits roll when you completed it, so I'm thinking they should've made that Number 1.

Thats the only problem with Diamond's new show, those top fives. I'm not sure if its Diamond himself who decides them but they had Shenmue as top for most pointless game ever, now the shows good but that really is nonsense. Those endings were not what I was expecting as there are so many different lame ones, PES in the listing seemed a cop out to push their PES semifinal on the show.
