Recently, I've been playing the hell out of Castlevania - Harmony of Dissonance on the GBA. It took over my life for a couple of weeks, so now I've started Aria of Sorrow, which is even better. I checked my old hard drive then for castlevania roms and I found quite a few. In fact the only ones I dont have are the allegedly greatest one 'Symphony of the Night' for the playstation, the new DS one and the PS2's. I have the N64 games, but they are 3D and I'm scared to play them.

So what say you, is the best 'Vania'?

I would say for me the best one was super Castlevania for the SNES. That was one hell of a great game to play imo.

And Dave what do you think of Paul WS Anderson doing the movie based on the game?

I think it will have the greatest movie soundtrack ever. Done right, it would be great, but movies of games are always ropey.

Agreed i think with producers of video game movies they just take the source and murder it (Boller is a classic example).

however i think with Resident Evil apocalyse being pretty much true to RE3 and now silent hill looking pretty much one of the best game to movie cross overs done. (We all know that with Halo it's going to be a gimmie as best video game film ever) and who knows if the script seems good enought and Andeson gets a pretty good director in on it then it could be a good film (Also the sound track will kick ass.

Also i found out that Rainbow Six is being produced at the moment and will have the remake of Dawn of the Dead director Zack Snyder working on it so that looks promising as well

Put me down for the first SNES one too.

I was playing Super Castlevania IV the other night on the snes (sort of) and it was good. The other Snes Vania was a bit dodgy though, 'Dracula X'. Nice graphics, actually better than SCIV, but gameplay was dodgy as hell.

My quest continues...

You are kidding right?! Jill, the Nemises and zombies were the only thing the game and the film had in common.

I got Symphony of the Night sometime last year while I had to recover from a leg injury, started it, and then just stopped playing. I didn't really lose interest, I just had alot of things to do, and when I was finally able to play games again, I had other ones to play, and sadly forgot about it until now. May have to start it again this weekend.

But anyway, is Aria of Sorrow any good? I've always wanted to check that one out. The many different weapons that you got from fallen enemies always intrigued me.

Yeah it's good alright, but took me ages to figure out what to do with the stuff you collect, couldn't jump high enough to get onto stairs etc. Circle of the Moon is meant to be great but the graphics were a bit dodgy really. I'd love to get Symphony of the Night though, I think i'm a bit late now!

How about the massive battle scenes in the streets with the comando's and the zombies.... Those were shot scene from scene off the cut scenes from the game.

Just to annoy anyone searching for SOTN I will point out that I have the collectors edition with bonus comic and soundtrack CD featuring music from all the previous Castlevania game, and yes, that includes the gameboy and PC Engine games.

Oh, and I bought the Saturn version on import from Japan just because you get to play as Richter and Maria. Can you tell I really like this game yet ?

Have you played the N64 games?

Symphony of the night is utterly awesome on the psone, also i particularly like Castlevania 3 on the NES for its variety of characters, and the fact it pushed the hell out of that system and Castlevania 4 on the snes, which introduced me to the eye boggling delights (at the time) of mode 7! And what a soundtrack.
