John Cena will long remember this WrestleMania victory, but he may not remember it fondly.

The Cerebral Assassin’s greatest mind game may have been turning the majority of the capacity crowd against the WWE Champion. The atmosphere was utterly electric in this charged, highly emotional environment. And the loudly derisive chants aimed at Cena must have had a psychological impact on the once unanimously popular champion.

The match seemed over after Triple H connected with his signature sledgehammer. But Cena willed his way out of consecutive covers. The Game next attempted a Pedigree, but The Champ escaped through the back door and instead hit an FU. The King of Kings answered with a kick out that put Cena into a state of dismay. The FU has ended countless matches, but not on this night. Cena stared into the rafters at fans who once supported him but had changed their allegiances. He seemed to be wondering if it wasn’t meant to be on this night with no much to overcome.

Out of desperation, Cena took to the top rope and attempted a flying cross-body. Triple H moved and quickly pounced for the Pedigree. The match-ending impact seemed imminent when Cena reversed it into the STFU. Triple H began to lose consciousness but fought back before his arm began to fall a third time. But Cena only cinched the submission in deeper, leaving The Game no choice but to tap out on the grandest stage of them all. Cena raised his WWE Championship in hard-fought victory, but his head still hung slightly. Clearly, this match was just as emotionally draining as it was physically draining.

Seems WWE have finally realised that they can't keep cena as a face and by the way this match report was written i'd say that on RAW tonight is where his heel turn is gonna happen. The boo's have to be turned into heat for Cena, when cena goes up against one of the best heels in the business and gets booed something is very, very wrong.

Would not surprise me, to be fair the best thing Cena could of done last night was to just give the crowd the finger.

But JR was tellling the tv audiance how it was going to be before the match even started, it was weird, unfortunatly it means that Triple H is probably going to be face, and wahts worse Cena face or Triple H face. The only saving grace would be a D-X reunion of which they teased last night.

I indeed expect Cena to turn heel tonight on Raw.
I didn't see WM, how was a D-X reunion teased?
HBK was very much his D-X old self including crotch chop, and Helmsley gave Mister Cena the old crotch chop.
Surely, they have to bite the bullet and turn him heel. The simple fact is that the majority of people last night wanted to see him loose the title and by turning him heel they will be able to capitalise on this desire to see him loose

Also note that tonights show is in the same arena, so the crowd will probably be very similar. Would'nt surprise me in the least if the opening segment is just Cena shooting on the crowd.

The only problem i see is that Triple H is still heel, and he loves being heel and in all fairness Triple H face sucks just as bad as cena face. If they want to have a rematch at Backlash then somethings got to give. You could always chuck a face edge into the mix i guess.

With putting Cena together with Triple H at Wrestlemania they really have created a problem, one i'm looking forward to seeing them solve.

Did you see his brutally honest, tearful and emotional interview on the post-wrestlemania show on WWE.com? That to me seemed like a final hurrah for face Cena.

They had him cut a half-arsed promo after New Years revolution about how the fans could kiss his ass but now they need to go the full way and bite the bullet and turn him against a face HHH. HHH is not face material but he could stretch the current wave of support he has through to Backlash

Triple H could very easily pull off being a great face until the Monday after Backlash (or the end of the Cena feud). It would defy logic to keep Cena as a face now. As a face he's beaten the heel, clean in the middle of the ring. By rights, this feud is finished unless they switch.

Great point.

WWE have a tendancy to have rematches on RAW and SD in this case usually but there is no way they will kill the feud in the manner they did with Cena v Edge by giving a string of matches on TV. Given that RAW is in the same arena tonight it is the most opportune chance to turn Cena and if they don't do it tonight maybe they will continue to stand by thier guns and push him as a face.

As I said it makes sense. At the moment the attraction of the Cena matches to most fans is the desrie to see him loose the title and there is only one logical wrong in this. He is a face. Turning him Heel (which Cena is good at) would solve this and then theoretically fans would be wanting to see a heel loose the title which is the fundamentals of wrestling

As long as the bookers keep in mind that the crowd last night weren't cheering a happy, smiley, comback kid Triple H, they were cheering arrogant, mean, sledge hammer wielding bad ass Triple H, then this feud can only continue to be awesome.

Are the crowd actually venting these emotions directly at Cena or more towards the booking team? I bet as soon as Cena turns heel starts cutting heelish promos and beating the crap out of HBK, Flair, RVD he will get cheered! They need to keep this overcoming all odds Cena with heel a element to keep this kind of heat on him but im not sure how they could make this work.

The way i see it as soon as Cena turns into a fully fledged heel he will get cheered alot more than he is now. Its the fact that hes been booked like superman that the crowd are on him so badly surley they couldn't book a heel this way?

A mixture of both really. "F**k you Cena" chants no matter what way you look at them are very personal attacks on the man intended to have effects on him. The general reaction is as much a reaction against the Booking too though

Do you not think booking him as this brash, crude ass kicking heel character would make the fans cheer him? Maybe a cowardly heel role like Austin of 2001 would work? I can't wait to see how the wwe are gonna go about this.

Another point I have just thought of. In the past few weeks, last night and in the after show interview on wwe.com Cena menitoned "rising in the face of adversity". Is this the way they are going to book him? Keep him face and simply have him battling against all odds to win? At the minute the crowd is taking the role of the "Heel" and Cena is the face battling against them. If he stays face thats they way he will be continued to be booked

Depeneding on when, how and where it is done I think the Heel turn could get quite a pop and althoughit would time for him to be cheered as a heel it coudl well happen....again
