So this week is E3, the biggest week in the gaming year and I think this year is going to be a great one for big announcements. I expect Sony and Nintendo to steal the show with announcements for Playstation 3 and the Wii, I'm very interested at the pricing structure for PS3, I have a feeling it's not going to be cheap at all. I wonder if they've redesigned the thing as well as the joypads since neither were warmly received when they showed them off last year as well.

XBOX wise, I'm hoping we get to see a look at Halo 3 you just know it's going to be huge.

So what's everyone else looking foward to this year from the show?

Zero Suit Samus looks interesting, plus Wario and a few other minor characters, but Snake? They've let them put Snake in the game? :eek

you know, it might do the gaming industry some good if Sony gets a kick up the arse, and we get some competition again....
Wonder if Snake's block will be hiding in the box rather than a shield. Also they have Nintendogs in there!!! my guess is it will be like the Pokemon apart from Pikachu in the previous game
Oh My God GTA 4 ON XBOX 360

Unfortunately we're gonna have to wait until November 07 for GTA4 on both Xbox and PS3. But if they are adding another number to the end, it means that it's basically gonna be a whole new game engine if they follow the pattern from 2 to 3.

Also in the Sony confrence, one of the people they talk to in London is wearing the latest Edge t-shirt.

The Wii's controller, will ruin it's chances of competiting, and the Xbox is an Xbox. PS3 will once again beat both in the sales, without any doubt. It will be exactly the same as the last series of consoles. PS2 sold the most, followed by Xbox then Nintendo.

The Wii's controller is garabge. I'm sure it pretty much confirms who their target market are - Kids. People who buy things like a dance mat, and Mega Dance Challenge 3000.

The Xbox is still the geeks choice. I'm sure Microsoft give us all the specification details, and their fans lap it all up, but it's not going to make them sell more than Playstation will.

While the pS3 is probably the least innovative, spectacular console, it has the right image, andwill win the war, again. It's like iPod and Creative. Creative apparently make the best MP3 player, or whatever it is, but it's marketed wrong.

Anyway, I'm dissapointed GTA will be limited to the 360 for a while though. Hopefully things change between now and it's release date. It was always a PlayStation game, and I want it to stay that way personally.

Rockstar have already confirmed it's going to be a simultaneous release.

And the machine which has the most games like "Mega Dance Challenge" is... wait for it... I know you won't believe this when you read this (unless you're brain dead) - it's the PS2!

Yes, the console that you're saying "is for kids" is the most innovative, yet the console with the most "boring" games, repeating the same games over and over with MANY sequels is your much vaunted Sony console.

Try not being a PS2 fanboy and looking at the facts. :P

I think it's pretty obvious I'm right. The dance-mat thing, was just an example of Nintendo's market.

I found a quick list of Nintendo games, let's see how 'adult' they are.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

I think it's pretty obvious by the graphics, and gameplay who this game is aimed at.

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for GameCube

Again. The graphics and gameplay, isn't made for adults.

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

Again. Even the name is desgined to gain the attention of 4 year olds.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

Fair enough I suppose.

Resident Evil

again, this is an adult game. Fair play.

Pikmin 2

Again, this is aimed for the younger game fans.

Super Mario Sunshine

When games were primarily aimed at childeren, this was the leading game for Nintendo. Sega's was Sonic obviously. I played these two when I was about 4. 14 (This is probably wrong, but you'll jump on me for it so: ROUGHLY ;))years ago.

Mario Party 5

Same as above.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles

This is aimed at teenagers/early 20's so fair enough.

Metroid Prime

Not even heard of this, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

These are all fairly popular games, right? I'm sure Mario will sell out anything else Nintendo have released recently.

I wouldn't say I'm a PS2 fanboy at all. I prefer it, sure, but I see it's faults, but I would choose it any day over anything Nintendo or Microsoft offer. Having a prefference doesn't make a fanboy.

If we are going to generalise, the Playstation is aimed teenagers, the GameCube is aimed at kids, and the Xbox is aimed at hardcore gamers. I know people who use all three, so i'm not just plucking random sh*t out of the air. Read a PS2, GameCube and an Xbox magazine, and you tell me there isn't a huge difference in content. PS2 has more women in it, Xbox ones are full of spec talk, and a GameCube one has The Tellytubbies or every couple of pages. Simple as that. I'm sure someone will give me two exceptions, and try to look clever, but I'm right.

I have to say of those Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart are excellent games and Mario Kart in particular is a popular party game as is Super Smash Brothers, they are simple to play but harder to master. It was one of the games I got with my DS and when i had my GC I got it soon after release as its a great game. Zelda I got with the GC and it is kiddie in appearance but it's actally pretty much rock solid and another great Ninty game.

Wow, you must've researched every Nintendo game ever!

Kingdom Hearts 2 has Disney characters, I don't think I'd like children play it though...

In fact I don't think I even understood what was going on

Have you ever not been a anti-PS2 fanboy?

I will probably get a Revolution, Zelda and Smash Bros are too much to refute. XBOX have still yet put out any console-exclusives that entice, and it won't be any better than the PS3, so no reason for that.

As for PS3? Yep, that's my pic. Bring on GT5!

And Jack, I agree with you completely, except for Zelda. No little kid can complete Wind Waker. And Metroid Prime is a futuristic shooter, not too gory, but still teen aimed

Nope, just 10 minutes looking on IGN ;)

Halo? Biggest selling game of all time? Oh and Xbox will kick PS3's ass, doesn't matter how many little kids buy the PS3, the games on the Xbox have always been a hell of a lot better.

Have you ever not been a anti-PS2 fanboy?

Actually I'm just anit-fanboy.

If somebody is a Gamecube/Xbox Fanboy, then I'll slap them just as hard as being a PS2 Fanboy.

A true gaming fan will look a the games on every console rather than just going "oh, PS2 games are the best because they're on the PS2" which Jack has CLEARLY just done.

If you want to "pick and choose" games to make a console look like it only caters for kids, let's examine some of the best selling PS2 games:

Crash Bandicoot - there's NO WAY this is aimed at adults.

Simpson's Hit and Run - a driving game where the characters talk all of the time? Kids.

Jak and Daxters - come on, that's for kids, look at the character design.

Ratchet and Clank - another kids title.

Dragon Ball Z - kids watch this cartoon, right? So the game is for kids.

Kingdom Hearts - Disney, so therefore for kids.

Now let's look at it from another perspective, Gamecube games:

Resident Evil 4 - first came out on the Cube A YEAR before the PS2 version, completely a teen/adult game.

Metroid Prime - a first person shooter that's quite complex - teen/adult.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron - based on the original series, so for young adults who will know the films.

Sonic Mega Collection - the kids won't remember these games at all, only young adults will, so it's nostalga for them.

The styling of the games might be "fun", but if you've never played them, then you CANNOT COMMENT ON THE GAMEPLAY, which means that you don't know what the game is like.

Take Super Monkey Ball - looks cute, but it's HELLISHLY hard - a kid would not be able to get past the first few levels as they would lose interest.

Super Mario Sunshine - looks cutesy, but again, has very complex game-play, so kids will lose interest.

You CANNOT judge a game by screen-shots - you HAVE to play it - otherwise you're doing the classic "judging a book by it's cover" - and only fanboys do that about games on other consoles.

Actually it's October 07:D

Jack mentioned that Playstation is aimed more at the teen market and I think that's pretty much a given but the fact is how many teenagers are going to be able to afford the stiff price point? I can't see many. Obviously they'll have to get their parents to get them one but at around £400 how many parents are going to just put their hands in their pockets? I'd say not many especially when games are more than likely going to be £50 a pop as well. Obviously there are the older teens who have their own jobs etc, but once again the price might put them off and that's basically in my opinion what's going to be a huge factor in the success of PS3.

Look at the Sega Saturn, in 1996 it launched at around the £400 mark it sold some consoles but not as many as they wanted. The PSone came along at around £200 (I think) and it out sold The Saturn by huge amounts and they haven't looked back since. Sega as a result were forced to put the Saturn's price down. I can see History repeating it's self. Sony have got lazy, they need a kick up the arse and if that happens it can only be a good thing for us all the gamers.

Halo? Biggest selling game of all time? Oh and Xbox will kick PS3's ass' date=' doesn't matter how many little kids buy the PS3, the games on the Xbox have always been a hell of a lot better.[/quote']

I'm not a fan of shooters. Obviously something like that might explain why I said an XBOX exclusive still hasn't made the grab. I don't own a single non-sports/racing game. I play Halo just for kicks when I go to friends houses, but I'm not serious about the game at all. I

And the games on the box haven't always been better. XBOX games haven't been high quality until fairly recently. Remember games like NFL Fever, NBA Inside Drive, Amped 1, PGR 1? WWE Raw 1/2? Those games sucked. Although XBOX titles have gotten better, they still aren't better than Sony's.

Every console has great games and rubbish games.

Look at how much tripe there is on the PS2 and the Cube - there's TONS.

Oh, and PGR1 is a great game. :P
