So this week is E3, the biggest week in the gaming year and I think this year is going to be a great one for big announcements. I expect Sony and Nintendo to steal the show with announcements for Playstation 3 and the Wii, I'm very interested at the pricing structure for PS3, I have a feeling it's not going to be cheap at all. I wonder if they've redesigned the thing as well as the joypads since neither were warmly received when they showed them off last year as well.

XBOX wise, I'm hoping we get to see a look at Halo 3 you just know it's going to be huge.

So what's everyone else looking foward to this year from the show?

Every Xbox game I've played has been way more enjoyable than any PS2 game, theres just way too much tripe put out on the PS2.

My ONLY problem with the Xbox is there was never enough releases for me. I love rpgs, and Jade Empire, and Knights of the old republic, and Morrowind were about the only decent examples, there were no decent wrestling games, but apart from that its an ace machine. Particularly the green one, that i have. That said, Gears of War on 360, how awesome does that look????? I reckon it'll be *whispers* better than Halo!

I know people will have problems with no jumping - a lot of people LOVE jumping in FPS games.

GoW replaces this with the ability to "hop" onto items, so instead of jumping onto them, you stand beside it and "vault" onto the boulder or whatever.

I remember the original Kill Zone game on the PS2 that was claimed to be the "Halo Killer" - the stupid thing was that if there was a 6 inch ledge in front of your character, instead of being able to step over it or leap over it, you had to run all of the way around, like your feet were stuck to the ground.

No jumping or ability to move over objects is a real draw-back. :P

but it does have an "action" button to allow you to use cover more instinctively! Hopefully that will be a substitute. Unless the put a cheap "chuck norris roundhouse kick" action in there........:P

GoW doesn't have a cheap "roundhouse kick of doom", instead the primary weapon has a built-in chainsaw.

Oh yes, chop your opponents in half - vertically!!! I've seen the video. :D

Great! chainsaws are almost as good! Although theoretically, this means there will be survivors!!! (see old Chuck Norris posts)....:D

No Castlevania announcements make me weep.
Every console has great games and rubbish games.

Look at how much tripe there is on the PS2 and the Cube - there's TONS.

Oh, and PGR1 is a great game. :P

Yes, every system has it's good and bad. But in the early going, the only thing XBOX had going for them was Halo. Then PGR2 and Knights of the Old Republic hit and their furtunes changed, ever since then I see XBOX games as only a step behind PS2.

And I fail to agree with PGR1. I think Mdnight Club 1 was ALOT better than it.

The real thing that saddens me is that there has been zero talk about Tourist Trophy for PS3. That means I'll probably have to wait a good few years for the sequel.

No Castlevania announcements make me weep.

Theres a new Castlevania coming on DS next year mate, a sequel of sorts to Dawn of Sorrow.:xyx

Well thats ok then, theres also a castlevania movie soon too.
ever since then I see XBOX games as only a step behind PS2.

Can I just remind you that the PS2 came out in 2000, the Xbox being released nearly 18 months after that.

So, if you put the Xbox games as only "a step behind", imagine what the difference would be if they were released at the same time.

This is my big gripe with people saying "but the PS2 has more games" - of course it does - it's been out for 18 months longer than the Xbox!!!

A true gaming fan will look a the games on every console rather than just going "oh' date=' PS2 games are the best because they're on the PS2" which Jack has CLEARLY just done.[/quote']

Like I said, I found a random list of Nintendo games, and commented on who they are marketed for, from looking at the storyline and graphics. I didn't pick and choose which games were obviously meant for the younger gamer, to make my point.

The price of the PS3 is pretty steep, but I do see people buying it. The PlayStation was always aimed at the rght people, so it has become pretty much a fashion accessory, just like the latest DVD player, car, or even clothes, so I see it doing fairly well, even at that price.

Just out of interest, I was watching a highlight video from E3, I think it was only PS3 games, and it showed a boxing one. Does anyone know what the game is? Another Fight Night, or maybe 2k?

FM2007 details will be revealed today... woohoo!

The really weird thing is people in this thread have seemed to associate "fun" with "kids".

Those people are sad, sad human beings

I have no preference for any console, I have owned pretty much every single console ever released in the last 20 years, barring a Sega Saturn, and they all have their pro's and cons. One thing I hate is when certain games are exclusive to one machine, as the SmackDown! series has been until now with news of its forthcoming release on the 360 which is great news.

Since I bought my 360, its been nothing but fun, there is a lack of games out right now, but I'm sure that will change, however the games I have bought have been alot of fun to play, especially Ghost Recon which, apart from Resident Evil 4, has been my favourite game to date, ever.

That'll be Fight Night Round 3, the same game that's out on the 360, just a year later.

Just read this article on Gamesradar.com regarding the two different version of Playstation 3. I think it's an interesting read.

Saturday 13 May 2006

Sony has today cleared up the confusion over the differences in specification between the two models of PlayStation 3 - and the cheaper version won't support wireless controllers.

As announced by the company on Monday, two versions of PS3 will be available at launch - one with a 60GB hard drive, and a less pricy model that features a 20GB hard drive. However, what the company didn't mention at the time is that the 20GB machine also lacks a number of key features that are included as standard in the more expensive model.

The 20GB console won't include an HDMI output, which means that it won't be able to deliver high definition pictures. But perhaps more disappointing is that wireless bluetooth controllers won't be supported; instead, gamers will have to make do with retro-style wired-up versions of the increasingly controversial PS3 pad.

In addition, the lower-end model also lacks WiFi and the slot for Memory Stick Duo cards included in the full-spec PS3.

A Sony representative on the show floor at E3 also emphasized that gamers won't be able to upgrade the memory of the 20GB version; if that's the PS3 incarnation you opt for, you're permanently stuck with a 20GB memory limit.

Amazingly, Sony big boss man Phil Harrison, in a BBC interview earlier this week, insisted, "What we should be clear about is that the functionality is identical in both machines. There is no difference in what the machine does."

Unfortunately, the actual facts seem to suggest otherwise.

Reading that makes me think that Sony are going to get alot of people confused about what each system does. I mean imagine buying the 20 gig version at launch and then buying a couple of Wireless controls, you'd be buggered because it doesn't support them.

There's such a huge difference between the two machines that it's going to confuse the people buying it especially parents. They'll probably opt for the cheaper version and end up with a machine that doesn't have as much in it as the 60Gig version. At least with the 360 the only major thing different between the Premium and Core was the lack of hardrive in the Core pack but they have made it possible to add the hardrive on at a later day if you wanted.

Sony really have to set in stone to everyone what each machine has for the cash you're going to be handing over, I for one when I get one (because no doubt I'll end up with one eventually :P) I'll be getting a 60Gig version but I'll be waiting for it to come down in price. Which I seriously think will happen sooner rather than later following the launch.

Well it looks like I'll be broke after forking out for the 60gb version.

No wireless LAN/Controllers, a 3rd the storage, no HD...

The thing that pushes the boat out is the lack of HD support if that article is true. Sure I don't have a TV with HD, but I'm sure as soon as our current one breaks, my 'rents will get one (if I bug them enough).

the more i hear about the ps3, the more disappointed i am. I tell you, the games had better be WORLD BEATING for it to get me back on board.
Did Sony forget to put the next-gen into it's next-gen PS3? I've read about this on quite a few sites, and to say it's stupid is an understatment! Sony are going to be charging more for a PS2.5 than a Premium 360 :eek
