PlayStation 3 available to order

Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) has gone on sale on the web, even though it won't be available until November this year.

The next generation consoles are on offer as "pre-orders" to Europeans for £550 ($1,020) at an online shop.

But you might be best off waiting, as the site say they're expecting a shortage of the consoles, so orders might not be delivered by Christmas.

The PS3 is Sony's offering in the new wave of consoles, going up against the Nintendo Wii and the XBox 360.

That what I heard from of all places Newsround Website. £550 is a big price to pay even online. Looks i'll have to wait a while to get one.

At £550, buying one within the first 6 months is INSANE!

Wait for them to be reliable, and then the price to drop, as sales won't be as high as they want.

I assume the £550 price tag is because the deal they're offering is a bundle. The PS3 has been comfirmed at £424.99 (which is still way too much In my opinion...)) Some shops wouldn't sell a standalone 360 when they first came out, you had to buy a bundle.....which is fine aslong as you get to choose/like the games, but a real s**t if you can't/don't.

This looks like the offer Play.com are offering it's for the PS3 and three games I believe. I had a quick read about it on the Beeb website earlier today. Still people will buy it.... £550 though. I just bought a HDTV for about that much.... shame my freakin 360 has gone crash crazy :P Oh well just a few days till I get's a new one from Bill and his mates.

Hey! I just saw a gut like you elsewhere......

Dang! I knew your Xbox broke, but at pretty much the same time as you got a HDTV!? Man, that sucks.

Anyhoo, I've just had a look on Play.com and all there is to say is....Singstar!!!!!!?????? RUBBISH!!!

I reckon we're alot alike. I reckon before the price announcement you were all for getting a PS3 on launch day, but much like myself feel that MASSIVE DAMAGE!!!!! and "Real time weapon change" don't really deserve £424.99. Am I right?

I could buy tons of cola bottles for £550 - and get more enjoyment out of them!

Plus they'll proabbly melt at the same rate.

You are lucky people to get a ps3 so cheap you don't know how lucky you have it. If I want one it will cost €700+

Damn I wont be getting one for a long time so!!! :evil :evil

Remember peeps that the 550 squids version is a bundle with 3 games according to DM.

Also remember that one of those games is SingStar....which isn't actually a game. Pretty much the same thing can be picked up off the counter at your local Spar for £4.99.

That's what's really stupid! Why in the hell have Play.com put such a niche game in the bundle? Same really, applies to Warhawk.

Spot on, here's the link as well for those worried about that £550 price tag... CLICK ME

The fact of the matter is I would wait until the UK's biggest Gaming retailers (Game.co.uk & Gameplay.com) offer preorders so you know exactly what you're going to get. No offence to Play.com because I use them alot for DVD's etc but they didn't get any kind of allocation with the 360 and this might possibly happen with PS3. Game.co.uk and Gameplay.com did not force bundles on people so you should be able to pre-order a lone PS3 where as if you went in stores you might be forced to get some kind of bundle which should work out a bit cheaper for you.

£425 which is the cost of the PS3 on it's own at launch has personally put me off buying it straight away but because I'm a lover of all things console I'll wait a few months till they've got the bugs out of the system because they will be some just like at the 360 as an example. That console has so much under it's bonnet and so does the PS3, I read just last week they're actually trying to fit a PS2 in there as well so they can get it to work 100% with PS2 games rather than go the eumlation route of 360. Needless to say there will be issues with some of the consoles at launch you would be foolish to think otherwise.

Anyways floating off topic here. Going from experience people who are seriously interesting in getting a PS3 at launch keep an eye on Game.co.uk and Gameplay.com and pre-order as soon as you can. Either that or pre-order in store at Game. I know there are other outlets but these are the ones that get the most allocations as they're seen as the bigger stores. The sooner you pre-order the better your chances come launch day. Bit of a no brainer that really.

Just another thing to keep in mind here, the PS3 launch much like the 360 one last year is a Global launch so expect major stock shortages, if you don't pre-order I wouldn't expect to pick one up before Christmas.

Warhawk is cool from what I've seen being the first game to use the motion sensors in the controller.

But anyhoo, I'll be sticking to the non-bundled version to start with, which is expensive as it is.

Put it this way, J preordered his 360 six months before launch, and Game (shop) he ordered from only got about 25 on the launch date and he was lucky to get one. His mate ordered around the same time from Gamestation, and he was told to wait 6 months further. The amount dispatched in time for the launch date is going to be ridiculously few, for the whole of the midlands, I heard that only 250 were aquired. Mental.
