Guest Popsi
Hello all, some advice if poss from all you techie knowledge types. I've got a lovely laptop and when i move it'll be stopping in one place on a desk or such like. So i would like to buy some speakers. I'm looking for 2.1 ones, so they have to have a subwoofer that i can change the bass and tone on. I've got about 50-60 pounds to spend, i don't want them to be took big, but they've gotta look pretty funky! My brother was telling me about JBL Creature speakers - are they any good? So any recommendations, what should i be looking for/looking to avoid etc? I will say that it will be mainly for listening to music on, as i don't watch DVDs on my laptop that often. Cheers all

The Icon
Does for me. Here's the link though. http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/9569/jcf5xl.png The pic is the JBL speakers BTW. Found some reviews of the JBL ones. Pros: Very nice sound and very cool form. Cons: Volume adjustment kind of gimmicky, but works. The bottom line: Awesome sound and looks, pretty good price too. Full review I had a set of cheap, ultra basic computer speakers that finally died on me. When I went looking for a new pair that I wouldn't have to fool with to get working, these JBL's became a front runner based on price, great looks, and JBL's good reputation for making nice speakers. I've had these for about a year now, and they are super easy to setup, with color coded cables and input jacks. The bass and treble controls are located on the subwoofer, so if you tend to fiddle with these controls, keep in mind that you may have to keep the sub within reach. Mine sits on my desk. Also to keep in mind, the master volume is controlled by tapping the right speaker tabs (i.e. there's no knob). It's a funky feature I didn't know about until they arrived at my house. It works fine, but I'd prefer a knob or at least some indication on the speakers of how far it's turned up so I don't shake the house with the windows start-up music. These are plenty loud and clean for all your music and gaming needs, with the exception of surround sound needs. One other thing I didn't know before I got these, the satellite speakers each have a green LED on the bottom, which on my glass desk, reflects up indicating that the speakers are on. I'm guessing on a regular desk that it would be more of a green glow in the dark. Pretty cool. Pros: looks, crystal clear sound, bargain price, easy plug in n play however........ Cons: may take some tweaking to get your perfect sound Full review worth considering just for the quirky/funny marketing garb on the box they come in well not quite but once your plugged in and ready to go you will be smirking in self rightious bliss in the knowledge that for fifty quid you now have a seriuos bit of audio kit unrivalled for another hundred quid or more and certainly nothing to touch it for looks alone even if you were to hammer your plastic for a grand or more on a seperates system for your living room infact if youve got some kind of beat up hi fi in your living area that your thinking of replacing then keep away from the stereo!! save yourself a fortune and replace it with these god sends They cost a minimun of £69.99 according to the official website whic has these specs. JBL's Creature II three piece iPod speaker system produces high-quality stereo sound for movies, MP3's and gaming experiences. Featuring cutting-edge sci-fi design and superior sound performance, JBL Creature II is a unique "plug and play" solution, compatible with all Macs and PCs – both desktops and portables – as well as MP3 players and Walkmans. Guest Popsi
Ah the pic works now cheers KM. So are those specs good? I genuinely haven't the foggiest idea about what makes a good speaker etc. All i know is i dont want them to be huge, but have a good sound with good bass control as a lot of my music is bass heavy hip hop. The Icon
It's hard to tell the size from the pic, but the specs say 9 by 9. (Inch one presumes) It mentions a low bass, which means Bass heavy music may be slightly muted. However most speakers these days have an adjustable bass button and I expect these do too.
