Hey,

This game is finally going to be released on December the 6th of this very year and I cannot wait. Sony say its cost them £5 million notes to make it and it looks like its going to be worth it.

I'm definately going to get this game, with CM4 and SD 4 nicely in time for Xmas. :)

Gotta love the computer games industry for things like this.

Cheers.

Is Dec 6th the UK release or the NA release date?
it looks good, but i'm more worried it will be more of a graphics showcase then a great unique game

I cant wait for it neither, but i geuss i`ll have to!

I'm not so optimistic.

At the Playstation Experience (The big show Sony put on for PS2 fans to play the newest games), a lot of people played a nearly-finished code of The Getaway, and they weren't too impressed. One of the downsides to the game is how linear it is. Unlike GTA3, you're limited to what you can do. If you're in a mission in your car, if your car flips over, it's game over. This makes it more like a video game and less like real life.

Also, Sony are going to delay the game until 2003 because they don't want to compete with GTA:VC, because Sony have stake in both games and don't want to see them going head to head. Therefore, a lot of people will already have their crime game in the shape of GTA:VC, and have no need for The Getaway.

Add to this the worst language ever heard in a video game (Lots and lots of F-Bombs) and you might put a lot of people off.

I'll probably pick it up once it goes Platinum, but GTA:VC is looking to be far superior.

The Getaway is released tomorrow folks! :D
i've been planning to get the Getaway for a while now but after playing the demo of the first two levels i have to say it's extremely dissapointing. There is a high amount of realism and Team Soho spent years making sure it was very real and cinematic. Although I found the game good it just lacked somthing. I now am going to wait till the price drops.

I have played on the demo of the Getaway, was fairly impressed, but did not like the control sceme at all. The London scenery is very pretty and realistic, despite some glitches on some of the surfaces. The language is unnecessery however, the f bomb is used a good few times in the opening cut scene, not to mention other swearing, all in the opening cut scene.

And Hardcore, Vice City and Shut Your Mouth have been out for a good month now ;)

i think the swearing while a bit ott is perhaps inspired by movies in the same style as the game (Pulp fiction, Snatch.... hell just about every gangster/crime movie ever) oh and on a sorta related note Beverly hills cop (first one i think) once held the single scene record for carpet F-bombing ie a crime movie. its simply art imitating... other art.

How ever i found the car chace hard but not too bad, got it 3rd time but while i got throught the front courtyard easy the bit in the warehouse just got too hard... nice touch that a badly damaged car (smoking engine) eventually grinds to a halt, also anyone manage the Challenge in the Official magazine, to get to a nearby branch of EB before the computer fails you?

gangster ripoff?

As much as The Getaway is a tempting buy, I may buy it yet, but not until Ive completed the Grand Theft Autos.

It's too hard man. I'm stuck on the bit where you have to rescue your son from Charlie's mansion and get past all those lasers.
