Has anyone picked up a copy yet? If so, is it worth buying? Because I fancy getting it but have not heard any reviews. Thx.

excuse the massive review but it's Sunday and i'm bored :)

it's great, but it's not a whole lotta different from Tekken 3. if you can't be bothered to read it (please do! :) ) then skip to the where you see the starts that look like this *****

Graphics

Te intro sequence is great (though not as good as Tekken 3). Also the way the story is told through some great art and also by CG -though only for the endings- is cool. graphics wise you knew Namco were not gonna slip up (though there are times whre it dosen't look right. the stages look great and the crowd look more real, but some of the stages still feel a bit ristrictive 9/10

Controls

if you have played Tekken 4 before then not much has changed except for the "push" command which replaces a throw command. if your new then fear not- the controls are easy to get use to and -if determined- you should be able to master them to effective use.

Two things i should note- 1) steve fox does not have kicks, instead the kick butons make him weave left and right and 2) Jin has "unlearnt" the mishima style martial art and learned a Karate style, so his moves are different. 10/10

Sound

most of you might not care, but i like music in all forms and taht includes video games. so it's a disapointment when Tekken 4 has music that is... well not terrible, just not great, hell it's below average at times. I wasn't expecting the music to be great, just good. the only stage music i like is the "Arena" one. 6/10

Playablity

Hello!, this is Namco, yes the same Namco who have made Tekken 1, 2 and 3, so i don't think there gonna screw it up Tekken 4's gameplay up, well actually in a sense, they have and haven't- you see while they haven't chnaged anything differently -save for jin's style, the 3D romaing style of Tekken Force and the new "push command

What's the "push" command i've been saying? well when pressing O and X together your fighter will push there oppenent... yes that's it!, but if you push your oppenet to a wall it stuns them, meaning you deliver some more damage so it does have it's use.

there's a host of chacratcer which have differnt styles of fighting which that there is a chacter for everybody- even if you have to unlock him / her as well (note- Jin fans, bad news- he's not playable at first)

anyway, while i said Namco haven't changed anything too differently which isn't bad, it's also can be a bad thing and and that's the problem. it feels just like another sequel, a good sequel but a sequel nevertheless. it feels like namco only impoved certain aspects. it may be much saying I (and also a lot of people) expected something mind-blowing, but saying that, I kinda feel cheated. 7/10

Longevity

for the purists, this will last ages. what with training to help know what your character can to help not only figure out their weakness and strengths but forumlate stratigies as well and time attack to break those times (time and time again)

of course for those who like rewards with hours of playing then it's okay but not more for a week or two (tekken Force will keep you a bit busy). Of course if you have friends then can last for ages. 8/10

*****

Overall

To answer your question (peter and others) Tekken 4 is worth getting but don't expect anything mind-blowing or revoulitionary, this game is great but at the end it just feels like a sequel- shame

41/50

I've got it, I got it for 3 pound. There was a raffle at Game aso I hung around and bought 6 tickets, 50p each. I was one of the very few that won and I had a choice of: Tekken 4, £10, Shawn Palmer's Snowboarding and Stuntman, I picked Tekken 4.

It's brilliant, well worth getting.

Thanx both of you, I will have to check it out. :xyx

all tekkens are useless. Virtua fighter is better

See now this is a classic example of "I'm a stupid moron who's never even played Tekken exept maybe five minutes on the first one but I have a copy of virtua fighter so i'll say that's great-ism." The tekken series in an undeniable success. What's there not to like about it? Although Virtua Fighter may be original and some say it's better than Tekken it has a weak plot and personally I'd say the collision detection is piss poor. Especially for a fighting game, which would rely on collision detection.

Useless? I beg to differ. I've never played a useless video game in my life. The use of a video game is to entertain the player. Even if you only liked a game for 5 seconds, it has a use. To say a game is useless is extremely ignorant.

Anyway, my University's student union has a copy of Tekken 4 available to play in the bar, which I have done on a few occassions this week. It's not a huge step up from Tekken 3, but it is enjoyable, and worth buying if you didn't get Tekken 3.

However, with all beat'em ups, there isn't a huge amount of single player replayability. It'll last you forever and a week in 2 player mode though.

Virtua fighter is more for those who like the contest full of skill. not where a button basher can beat you with a specfic character. and there's the satisfaction that

Tekken 4 is way more accessible and has endings :D

i prefer tekken 4 but only because i don't have paitence. if there was a tounement in milton keynes or my friends were into it and i had loads of time then sure i would play it

Play a game on the PS called Hugo and your opinion might change

I actually played the demo on the OPS2 magazine yesterday, looks to be a decent game but I stili am not sure whether to shell out £45 quid for it...
