Anyone else downloaded the demo from XBL? I did and it is AMAZING all the visuals are near photorealistic even when it's not in HD.

Quick rundown of what's in the demo:

Part of the opening chapter lasting about 20 minutes, 30 if you really take your time to explore and take it all in.

3 weapons, a wrench, a revolver and a machine gun (tommy gun), there MAY also be a shotgun as someone claims to have found ammo but not the gun itself. The pistol and machine gun both only have their basic ammo, no armour piercing or anti personnel rounds.

2 plasmids, electro bolt which you find almost as soon as you enter Rapture which stuns splicers if fired at them, but kills if fired at the water provided the splicers are in it. It also can be used to temporarily short mechanical enemies to be hacked and turned to your side.

The other plasmid is Incinerate, does what it says really, supposedly enemies are smart enough to jump into water while on fire if they can, splicers may still attack for a short time while on fire, which is kinda creepy.

Enemies: Splicers, the basic GM human, in the demo it comes in 2 flavours, Thuggish splicers are hand to hand fighters attacking with bits of pipe and crowbars, they are very fast and agressive. Leadhead splicers are physically similar but carry firearms, they also seem to be a bit less agile and slower than thuggish splicers.

Security camera, these show where they are looking with a light, green is passive, white means it's spotted you or an enemy and red means the alarm has been raised.

Security bots, when cameras raise the alarm these come out of the walls somewhere nearby. They are essentially smally machine guns attached to helicopter blades. These are most useful to hack as they will follow you and attack anything you do. You can see easily if they are on your side by the lights on the rotors, green is friendly red is not.

Turrets like bots but mounted on the floor, narrow field of fire, use electro bolt, walk past then hack it at will.

Big daddies (atleast one of the 3 or 4 variants) and Little Sisters are also shown but you can't interact with them, you do however see a splicer try to attack a Little Sister and get OMGPWNED by the Big Daddy a.k.a Mr Bubbles for his troubles.

If you have an XB360 you really should get the demo, it's amazing.

I've got the CE ordered from game that comes with a Big Daddy figurine, music CD and a making of DVD.

I have since found AP pistol rounds in the demo but I only got 2 right at the end of the demo, they destroy turrets with 1 shot, but do less damage than normal to splicers. There's also a dead Mr B. towards the middle that I'm shocked I missed the first 2 times I played. Now I wanna know what in Rapture can take them down.

Just a little note for our American and possibly Canadian members. Toys 'r' Us have broken the street date and are selling the standard edition already and maybe the Limited edition, no one has laid claim to getting a collectors edition though, but those may be exclusive to EB and chains they own. There is also loads of home made gameplay vids on Youtube and Dailymotion.

I just finished playing the demo, I have to say it was awesome. The atmosphere whilst playing the demo was awesome, you kind of end up slowly heading towards doors just incase something comes jumping out of you. This is not going to be one of those games you want to play at night on your own because you might just pap yourself. I've just decided to pre-order this from playing demo, roll on the full game is what I say :)

I have a 'promo' copy and quite frankly it's really not that good. For starters I'm lying - it's bloody fantastic! It looks great, it plays wonderfully and there's a wee bit of stratagy involved in choosing what kind of left trigger - forget the name - weapon to use. Thus far I have electric, fire and levitation. Catching a grenade mid air and re-directing so it unblocks a door is genius! Levitation in KING!

how did you get a promo copy? Gah, its not fair :(

The LT weapons are called Plasmids, Electro bolt and incinerate were in the demo, Electro Bolt looks to be the most useful along with Telekinisis. Are you doing help or harvest with the Little Sisters?

How different is the start from the demo? I know Incinerate and the Tommy Gun are not given until later but do you still get Electro Bolt right at the start?

I haven't played the demo, so I'm not really sure what it included. The full version starts in the water, then in some lifts. You pick up electro pretty quick but you have to go hunting for the fire and telekinisis (which is what I meant by levitation - I'm just stupid) They both collected on the second 'level'/'stage'. Both are needed to advance through said 2nd level - fire to melt ice (and light oil slicks!) and telekinisis to grenade the blocked door way. I've just defeated the first 'boss' (hint: armor penertrating bullets - I was shooting him for ages before I remembered I had those) and am on my way (I assume) to the next stage - just got to get to the goal.

 

Weapons - you first pick up a wrench, then a pistol, then the machine gun and midway through the 2nd level - I gots me the ultimate in video game gun's - the Shotgun!

 

Hacking is great. You've gotta be pretty quick with those safe's.

PC Demo up at fileplanet, also new Graphics drivers , i would strongly advise updating before trying the demo.

Got mine today. Ordered the normal version and got sent the steel tin box version for the same price. Mega-super-dooper-cooler-than-a-freezer-awesomeness of the first kind! :lol

Fantastic game with great atmosphere. Im on the 3rd part (after medical Pavillion, Neptune's something) just rescued my 3rd little sister and got a nice reward for it in that teddy bear at the farmer's thing where you buy plasmids. Has everyone else been saving them or are you all evil :P ?

I've saved them all.

 

I'm on the last level - looking forward to starting again......this time I'm gonna kill me some bitches!
