Third Time's A Charm

22nd January 2008

Chavo Guerrero finally earned his chance at an ECW Title Match when Edge nailed Punk with the World Heavyweight Championship, and Guerrero beat the ECW Champion to become the No. 1 contender. This week, CM Punk will face Guerrero, who will have Edge in his corner. Will the SmackDown Superstar be victorious or will the Straightedge Superstar hold on to his gold?

The next ECW (on Sci Fi) will be broadcast in high-definition, and a real treat for the eyes is promised. If you think the ECW Divas look good now, wait until next week when the ECW Best Body Contest will be broadcast in crystal clear, HDTV. Who is the hottest – Kelly Kelly, Layla or Lena Yada?

Kofi Kingston, the Jamaican Superstar who has promised to bring trouble to paradise, will finally make landfall on ECW next week. Just what does he have in store for ECW?

Finally, Colin Delaney returned to ECW for the fourth time, where he faced another one of SmackDown’s giants, Kane. The Big Red Machine quickly demolished Delaney. Will the youngster have enough guts to revisit the Land of the Extreme for a fifth time?

Find out the answers to all of these questions and more on the next ECW this Thursday Night at 11.30pm on Sky Sports 3![/Quote]

Morrison in HD, that is all.

Great show. Didn't see Shelton or Chavo winning. Chavo Guerrero as ECW Champion. Cool.

I wonder if Punk will be in the Rumble now.

I wonder if Punk will win the Rumble and fight Edge at Wrestlemania.

I thought ECW was better this week. As a matter of fact, it seems to be getting better and better recently. It was a bit odd at first to see a stage that huge for an ECW show. I also noticed that they started putting the WWE logo in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen instead of the ECW logo. Might as well, I say.

I'm not overly surprised that Chavo won the title, though I did originally expect Punk to retain against Chavo once or twice and then lose the belt, but after it was revealed that Edge would be in Chavo's corner, I was about 97% sure Punk would drop the title. So now, SmackDown's WWE Tag Team Champions are ECW Superstars and the ECW Champion is a SmackDown! Superstar. It doesn't get much more inter-promotional than that.

I was really impressed by Kofi Kingston's WWE/ECW debut. He's got some remarkable moves. Very reminiscent of Shelton Benjamin, in my opinion. Possibly better than Benjamin.

The Over-The-Top-Rope Challenge was pretty good. I was surprised Benjamin won. They usually go with the biggest guy in the match to sort of "throw off" the fans. I think that it would certainly be a surprise if Kane won the Rumble Match. It's very unlikely that he will, but I think seeing Kane challenge Edge for the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania would be a decent match. Going against Undertaker would be good, too, but they've already faced each other at WrestleMania twice, so a third time might be overkill. If you think about it, Edge Vs. Kane for the World Heavyweight Title is a match that, I don't think we have ever seen. Kane being the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania via the Rumble Match or No Way Out seems unlikely. I would like to see him break his own record of eliminations (11) this year.

I am actually really enjoying this Colin Delaney angle. I like the idea of him coming out every week more and more "injured" and then having to job in a squash match again and again. Though I think it's too early for it, I would love to have seen Finlay and/or Hornswoggle interfere in the Colin/Khali match and have Colin defeat Khali. I think it's time Khali was a jobber for once.

97%? Really? I was only 92% sure, at best. I calculated it and everything using a combination of the Power 25 rankings and Triple H's booking power.

But on a serious note, I really like Chavo as Champion. It opens up a few possibilities later on down the line and it's gotten me really interested in where they'll take this.

Also, Colin Delaney will have his day. It's coming. One day.

Ah kofi kingston repping jamaica its brilliant my dad was happy that to see someone from his homeland jamaica wrestle. though since we saw it on wwe.com was his performance good looked it on there.

:info7: What the hell did I read this thread before watching the show for!

Aslong as this means Punk is moving shows and going on to bigger and better things then I'm glad he's dropped the belt.

Otherwise it sucks as Chavo is horrendously bad.

Subconciously you wanted to read the spoilers.

Hopefully this means Punk movin' on up. To Smackdown that is.

Chavo as champ sucks, the man is a heat vacuum. He is good in the ring but so is Charlie Haas, they both have little charisma and are just plain boring. And where the F*ck is Elijah Burke!

I was wondering the same thing actually, never heard anything about him being injured or anything and someone should really stick his face on the side of milk cartons. He should be getting the push that Shelton Benjamin is getting because he is about a billion and three times more talented.

I couldnt agree more

I reckon Punk will be fed to Edge at No Way Out ( is that the next PPV? )

That way Edge goes into WrestleMania with 2 big wins under his belt.

I dont really like this as I like Punk and I really, really dont like Chavo, but whatever.

And I was decidedly unimpressed by Kofi Kingston, I thought he was really sloppy, albeit with a couple of cool moves. I'll reserve judgment for a while I think.

And I predicted Kane eliminating everyone and then Shelton tipping him over for the win. Seemed obvious to me. I'm also predicting Shelton to be the last ECW guy (unless Punk is entered) left in the Rumble.

Still a good episode.

Not his fault at all. That jobber was all-around terrible. There's a match from DSW with Kofi against TJ Wilson on YouTube.

It seems like WWE is revolving some of the same jobbers around these days. I guess it's easier to pull them from FCW or OVW. Which I'm assuming is where David Owens is from. I think this is Owens' second time jobbing. I believe the first time was on Heat.

I wouldn't bet money on it, but I doubt Punk will be in the Rumble Match, seeing as he's automatically the #1 Contender for the ECW Title and will be until he gets his rematch for the title, which may come at the Rumble event.

I think Chavo winning the title is more about driving the Edge/Vickie angle further home. I don't believe that it's a matter of WWE thinking that Chavo is necessarily better than Punk, it's just to enhance the angle of the faction holding as much WWE gold as possible. I don't expect Chavo to hold the ECW Title for very long. Probably just the duration of this angle. I think that Edge, Vickie, & Chavo helping Ryder & Hawkins win the WWE Tag Team Titles would be a good direction to go from here, but I think that it would be a decent idea to give them the tag titles, but have them lose the titles back to "Miz" & Morrison somewhere down the line. I still strongly believe that Theodore Long will "rebel" against the faction soon and possibly fight to be the General Manager again, instead of the assistant. I think it will be like a smaller version of the whole Union/Corporate Ministry feud, where there is a large group of powerful people (the Edge/Vickie faction), but there is a smaller group of individuals who combat the larger group. I don't think it's far fetched to see Batista & The Undertaker be the ones to fight the faction (with help from Long, I imagine). I know the Union was made up of four guys or so, but I think it's believable that Batista & Undertaker could thwart the plans of Edge, Chavo, Vickie, Ryder, & Hawkins.

Jobbers are never usually from the developmental territories, they're 9 times out of 10 local indie talent. For the most part, being a jobber is a try-out for a developmental deal.

Now that I think of it, I think Chavo or Edge will turn on the other and implode the faction from within.

So in the case of David Owens and others, are they just giving them multiple tryouts?

Agreed. From what I saw it was his opponent who was botching 75.77% of the moves he took. I though that "BOM BOM" double leg drop was pretty lame, though.
