Posted February 18, 200816 yr Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone knows of a WoW alternative, that's online, and preferably free? I watched a friend play WoW, and it looked soooo complicated, I'd rather start out with something simple. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Joe
February 18, 200816 yr Guild Wars is free, but it's a pile of sh*t. World of Warcraft is pretty simple if you know what you're doing. City of Heroes was VERY simple when I tried it out, but it wasn't as fun as WoW, and is also a pay-to-play MMO. The Lord of the Rings Online is very fun, but a little more complicated than WoW and you have to pay. I mean, you could always play Runescape, but I'm pretty sure you'd want to destroy your PC when you realise how rubbish it is.
February 19, 200816 yr My son, nephew and step-dad all really enjoy Runescape so not everyone hates it :lol
February 19, 200816 yr My best friend is a RuneScape fanatic; apparently there's alot more enjoyment past the **** graphics.
February 19, 200816 yr Im currently hooked on Adventure Quest. I love the fact theres about 10 million character classes. Its simple too, so even a grade 1 dumbass like me can play it. Its free, but there a one off upgrade that gets you loads of money, a mint weapon and various other goodies. Right here, on TWO...it was a cheap plug, so i figured, hey, a cheap pop wouldnt go amiss.

February 19, 200816 yr Start with Runescape, I used to play for about a year and it's a great game, the actual gameplay is really enjoyable, look past the graphics which aren't that bad and you'll like it. However a year of playing about 3 years ago stopped me playing it, it gets very repetitive and the potential scams you can get involved with are ridiculous, just avoid them and you'll enjoy the game. WoW was a great game, it's actually not that complicated, if you played it for a week you'd get used to all the controls, hotkeys etc. I started in 2006 and played for about a year and loved it, but after a while the concept can get repetitive although the graphics are incredible. The Raids were one of the main parts for me aswell, really enjoyable. Definitely give WoW a go if you haven't yet, you'll really enjoy that one.
February 19, 200816 yr http://www.nexuswar.com Excellent game I played on and off for a few years. You need to get into the Metagame and plan your builds. You can play for free and that gets you 3 character slots but if you donate you can buy more slots, premium character aspects (aspects are text that describes your characters appearance), clothes and various other things. It IS text based but don't be put off. Also be prepared to want to restart and change your characters as a BIG update is coming in the next few months with all T3 classes getting some new skills or having current skills nerfed and buffed to balance them better.
February 19, 200816 yr Starcraft is what i play just great little game keeps you occupied and great for playing online with friends. Spending ages building your lair only to see it destryoed in like minutes.
February 20, 200816 yr World of Warcraft is relatively cheap but not free. Firstly i no longer play the game but it realy is the best example out there of this sort of game, yeah there are kids and idiots playing, and its very new user friendly, but the reason it has so many players is it realy is so well put together. You will get the hang of it very quickly, trying a friends level 70 is probably confusing but starting at level 1 and learning yourself is a lot of fun. I think i paid £25 per 3 months to pay, it certainly is no more than that, i played not many other games for 2.5 years, maybe some DS stuff. Now since January 1st i have bought, Orange box, Bioshock, Call of duty4, and Blue dragon added to those around 3 XBLA games Rez, Omega 5 and Geomtry wars. A quick maths and thats around £110 in games in under two months( i got some cheap/second hand). So WoW actualy worked out cheaper.

I'd like to agree with this as a fan of WoW, but The Lord of the Rings Online is catching up with WoW, gameplay wise. :lol
February 20, 200816 yr Been playing Runescape, had alot of fun so far. It's a great game! Graphics aren't THAT bad, if I wanted better, I'd play something like WoW. I'm enjoying it alot. :) Thanks for the recommendation. Might even sign up for a proper membership. It's fairly cheap :D lol
February 20, 200816 yr If I were you i'd wait till you build up your stats. Get like 40 Combat before you think of becoming a member or the main features become inaccessible really, you can still have a lot of fun but as you're a beginner start building all of your stats first. When you reach 40ish members becomes a lot of fun, all of the minigames, quests and skills are a laugh. Christ I can't believe i'm offering advice on Runescape!!!
February 21, 200816 yr The guy that made Nexus War has a new game in the works called Steamfront, and it looks REALLY good, but it's still months away. It's looking like a Steampunk meets DnD during the Enlightenment with Dwarves, Elves and Orcs.
