RAW Discussion Thread- June 30, 2008 from Oklahoma City, OK (#788)

After Night of Champions, where RAW Superstars suffered three prominent losses, the Monday night brand is left with no World Championship. Perhaps more important, though, is the fact that WWE is currently without its Chairman.

During last week’s Draft, WWE Champion Triple H was randomly selected to SmackDown, taking his title with him. On Sunday night, John Cena had a chance to bring the title back to RAW, but was unable to defeat The Game. Similarly, Batista attempted to win Edge’s World Heavyweight Championship, but couldn’t come out on top against the Master Manipulator.

The one World Title that RAW did hold going into Night of Champions was Kane’s ECW Championship, but in a Triple Threat Match against Mark Henry and Big Show, the Big Red Machine lost the gold to the World’s Strongest Man, who will take the championship back to Tuesday nights with him. With Cena, Batista and Kane all unable to win or hold onto gold, where will these three competitors set their focus next?

Another RAW Superstar that suffered a devastating loss at Night of Champions was Chris Jericho, defending his title against surprise opponent, Kofi Kingston. Y2J and the capacity crowd in Dallas were shocked as the Jamaican Superstar made a huge splash in his first match since joining the RAW roster. Another surprise entrance was made by Shawn Michaels, who was unable to compete due to an eye injury. HBK distracted Jericho long enough for Kingston to take control of the match, pinning Y2J. Following the match, Y2J took brutal revenge against HBK, assaulting him outside the ring. With the Intercontinental Championship acting as RAW’s main singles title, will Kingston and his unorthodox style be able to hang onto the championship? And what is in store for Chris Jericho when HBK returns to in-ring competition?

One of Night of Champions’ biggest surprises came during the World Tag Team Championship Match. For weeks, Ted DiBiase had promised to win the gold from champions Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes, along with the help of his mystery partner. On Sunday, the mystery partner was revealed to be Rhodes, who turned on Holly, and helped DiBiase make good on his promise to win a championship in his first WWE match. Why would Rhodes turn against his partner and mentor, and what steps will Hardcore Holly take to get revenge?

While multiple championships changed hands Sunday night, Mr. McMahon’s condition was still unknown following a bizarre accident last week on RAW. At the end of the evening, the stage on which the WWE Chairman stood on collapsed, followed by a ton of lighting equipment crashing down on him, incapacitating Mr. McMahon and causing Million Dollar Mania to be indefinitely suspended. When the McMahon family gives a statement this Monday on RAW, what will we learn about the Chairman’s condition, and how will the landscape of sports-entertainment be affected in Mr. McMahon’s absence?

For the answers to all these questions and more, make sure to tune into Monday Night RAW at 9/8 CT only on the USA Network.

Pity JR won't be there

I have a feeling J.R. will appear anyways. If not on RAW, then he will probably appear in Tulsa on SmackDown (a special in-ring appearance, not the announcing duties).

JR said on his blog that he has a ticket and will be in the crowd which i think is great.

Confirming that he will be at Monday's Raw in Oklahoma City:

Monday night I absolutely plan on attending the OKC Raw as how could it be an OKC Raw without me getting my ass kicked in some shape form or fashion? :) Seriously, this is a major event for my home market and one that I am supporting as tirelessly as possible especially considering that the ticket header says "The WWE and J.R.’s Family BBQ present Monday Night Raw". I have a ticket but please don’t ask me for any comps as I am fresh out….wow I did not realize I had so many friends. As a matter of fact the Monday Night Raw Superstars and crew will enjoy catering from J.R.’s Family BBQ on Monday and many Smackdown folks are planning on stopping by our original store Monday which is at exit 109 at I-35 and Main in Norman.

It was announced at Night of Champions that the McMahon family would issue a statement on Vince McMahon's 'status' live on RAW this week.

I never heard them announce that last night but there will be some drival about how McMahon was seriously injured and may never walk again on tonight I expect

There is no way Jim Ross will attend and sit in the crowd.
Michael Cole for 2 hours live will be painful.

I am interested to see what is going to happen after the fall out of NoC in regards to the title matches that took place

He's said several times he is going with friends and family.

He wont be in the crowd, can you imagine the fan frenzy with people bugging him all night? He will be in a suite UNLESS WWE have asked him to sit in the crowd so they can get shots of him on camera for something.

Put it this way, I cant imagine Ross actually buying tickets and sitting with the fans out of choice.

On a side note, I expect RAW to suck...standards these days are way too low...;)

I'm really looking forward to the show tonight. I want to see the fall-out from the PPV for the first time in a long time. Plenty of stuff to get stuck in to.

Shockingly I agree with Mitch. What with Raw having no champion, no feuds in place, it will interesting to see what direction they go.

I'm just really hoping its not lets spend 2 hours concentrating on what happened to Vince.

That is my fear too Jung, that all the fall out from NoC will be lost in updates and reaction to Vince and his 'injuries' if they do go down that route then I am going to be very annoyed as this whole situation they have no comming out of NoC has alot of potential to really become a big thing where as the Vince stuff is just another repeat of what has been before many times

Not to sound too negative :lol but whenever WWE have something interesting like no champion, they invariably end up doing something shite. Remember the Higher Power and bringing back the World title? It was Vince and they just gave it to HHH.

Dont get your hopes up for anything groundbreaking, although if Punk used MITB to take the WWE title from HHH, that would be something interesting. Not because Punk is good, I dont really care for him one way or the other, but it would be a shakeup at least. A ROH-heel style Punk as WWE champion on the flagship? The matches wouldnt matter because the promos and interviews would be great.

live stream??
Mickie James will be facing Beth Phoenix tonight for the Women's Title

Three things have been announced for tonight's RAW- The McMahon Family will issue a statement on the condition of Mr. McMahon, Kofi Kingston will defend the Intercontinental Title against former champion, Chris Jericho, and Jim Ross will give his farewell address.
JR will no doubt "shoot" in his speech, so it will be more interesting than some botched bulldogs.
