I just got 3 red lights, which isnt a problem as I'm still under guarentee and can get a replacement unit on Wednesday, my questions are:

1. Will they let me keep my HD, as there is a ton of stuff on there I dont want to lose.

2. I gave a game in the tray and it wont let me eject it, any advice on getting the thing out?

Thanks

Been there and got the t-shirt.

EDIT: Sorry just re read your post.

When you say you're getting a replacement unit are you taking it back to the store for a new one - I sent mine back to Microsoft for repair (no replacement) in which case see below

1. When you send it they only ask for the main box itself. They ask you to remove the hard drive and accessories so you will get to keep it.

2. If you can't get the game out I'd speak to customer support and let them know. They can probably include that as part of the repair. When sending it I'd add a note in with your package advising them its there and to include it when they send it back.

You have my sympathies.

Thanks for the info, but I should mention that I dont need to send it away, thankfully I'm still under the shop guarentee and have the reciept, so I can take it in store on Wednesday and do a straight swap for a new unit. The problem is I dont want to lose the game or all my saved stuff on the HD.

Bloody nightmare!

The game could be a problem but with the HD unit you can probably do a swap for the new HD unit. They'll take the new one out of the box and send it back to Microsoft with the broken xbox.

I did something similar with an MP3 docking station I returned recently. Rather than make me return all the cabling / remotes etc they just sent the my broken unit back with all the new accessories. I kept everything I already opened.

If the store accept its broken they might just be able to break into it to get the game out as its a fault in itself and they are sending the unit back anyway. You could always ask for a new copy of whatever game it is.

Otherwise you could contact Microsoft for a free repair as I mention above though it would mean going without for about 4 weeks - which is a drag. :sad5:

I'll call the store back and see what they can do for me on the game, if they say I'll lose it I might have to go for the repair from MS because I just paid £40 for the game like 4-5 days ago.

Bloody thing.

Depends what shop its from, stores like Gamestation have the stuff setup to try and get the games out if you get the Red Rings of Doom.

I like the 360, but pretty much everyone I know who's owned one has had to send it back for this same issue. My old one that I sold to my mate, he told me that went in for the same problem too after about 4 months of him having it.

Had zero hardware issues with my PS3 or Wii mind, take that as you will.

Funny thing, I called the shop (Zavvi) and they said they do a complete exchange, including the HD so I'd lose all my stuff, and they wiont get the game out. So, I called Microsoft, they said they would pick up the unit, minus the HD and send it back with the game no problem. Great, right?

OK, so the guy on the phone tells me to turn the 360 on so I can tell him the colour of the light on the power supply, and I turn it on, bloody thing is working fine again, no 3 red lights, everything is perfect.

I told him this and he was like ok, fair enough. So, now its working again, but was it a warning of things to come?

I'd say it's a warning. My other 360, that is still yet to be fixed, started to freeze alot and then the three red lights appeared from out of nowhere.

While I've had zero hardware issues with my PS3, I don't has as much fun on the PS3. :(

Yeah, it has been freezing up for a couple days, and then I got hit with the three lights today. Since it came back to life earlier, its completely stopped freezing :lol

Man...

If I remember correctly the 360 has issues with heat exchange, which means the processor will overheat and slow down to a crawl, hence periodic stopping.

If you have a fan, keep it on it to blow the heat from the heatsink and I think they have specialist heat exchangers on amazon to solve the problem.

This is why everyone should buy a PS3, it's guaranteed not to break until the day after the warranty runs out.

But you can't have as much fun on a PS3. :greets4:
