One of the biggest editions of Monday Night Raw this year will be the ideal way to celebrate the defining moments of 2008. It will take three hours and an early start time of 8/7 CT for Raw to play host to not only three headlining singles bouts between WWE’s top Superstars, but also the long-awaited return of the Slammy Awards.

When Raw last aired on USA Network, Execute Vice President Stephanie McMahon revealed a series of matches inspired by one of the most highly regarded Slammy honors, Superstar of the Year. Six Superstars are in contention for this prize and they are each paired up for one-on-one encounters: Batista vs. Triple H, Chris Jericho vs. Jeff Hardy and World Heavyweight Champion John Cena vs. WWE Champion Edge – a rare champion-against-champion confrontation.

While WWE’s top titleholders square off, Intercontinental Champion William Regal will also be watching this momentous episode of Raw to see if he and the lovely Layla might be nominees for Couple of the Year. He’ll also be glued to locker room monitors for the continuation of the tournament to determine the No. 1 contender to the Englishman’s gold. World Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston meets Rey Mysterio in the next round, while the Jamaican Craze’s partner CM Punk faces John Morrison. Whose victory will bring them one bracket closer to a title match with Regal?

All this plus the crowning of Diva of the Year, Match of the Year, “DAMN!” Moment of the Year and many more categories. There’s a lot up for grabs when Raw rolls into the City of Brotherly Love on Monday night at 8/7 CT. Tune in to USA Network to see which Superstars and Divas will bring home the coveted gold grapplers.

Yes. Hopefully.

Seriously, the only reason to even have the Slammy Awards is so Santino can 'Owen Hart' the crap out of winning and get plenty of glorious mileage out of it. Winning Couple of the Year means he gets to run around with two of them bad boys for months and years and decades.

Announcer of the year? I don't think there's such a thing.

Best case scenario - JR gets it...but it doesn't matter since it's just a harmless 'work.' and everyone moves on.

Worst case scenario - Cole gets it, thus inspiring many annoyed and agitated WWE cole-haters tapping furiously

'WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?'

Secretly, I'd laugh like heck if Cole won it - just to see how badly people would take it! :P

The nominees for Match of the Year and Diva of the Year have been announced:

Match of the Year

-Ric Flair Vs. Shawn Michaels in a Career Threatening Match from WrestleMania XXIV

-Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Match from WrestleMania XXIV

-2008 Royal Rumble Match

-Edge Vs. The Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell Match at SummerSlam

Diva of the Year

-Beth Phoenix

-Mickie James

-Michelle McCool

-Kelly Kelly

I think there should be more matches to choose from, but if these are the choices I have to go with Edge Vs. Undertaker. As far as the Diva of the Year, it has to be Beth Phoenix, no doubt.

By the way, there is an Announcer of the Year Award. It's one of the WWE.com Exclusive Awards (see the title post).

I nominate HBK for all the Slammy Awards as he is a true wrestler..
Kelly Kelly's done absolutely nothing yet she is in the running for Diva of the year?
Kelly Kelly's done absolutely nothing yet she is in the running for Diva of the year?
Kelly Kelly has improved a hundred-fold since her debut (to be fair, it would be hard not to) and is fast becoming one of the more over Divas on the roster.

Superstar of the Year - Randy Orton

Match of the Year - Flair's last match (even though we knew the outcome)

OMG Moment of the Year - Cena being number 30 at the Royal Rumble

Diva of the Year - Beth Phoenix

Damn! Moment of the Year - Vince getting rick rolled on live TV

Tag-Team of the Year - The Miz and John Morrison

Best Musical Performance - Santino blowing his air trumpet

Best Finisher - Widow's Peak

Extreme moment of the Year - Jeff Hardy doing a Whisper in the Wind or a Swanton Bomb off the scaffolding (can't remember where)

Couple of the Year - Glameralla

Breakout star of the Year - John Morrison

Announcer of the Year - They're all in a tie for last. Although JR is slightly better than the rest.

Best WWE.Com Exclusive - Dirt Sheet with Miz and Morrison

Best Impersonation - Charlie Haas (anything he's done, they were all funny)

Kelly Kelly's done absolutely nothing yet she is in the running for Diva of the year?

I think she's coming along nicely and she's won me lots of points in the FWL.

I don't think Haas has done anything funny. Dressing up as someone and doing a very poor impression, isn't auto-funny. Just because Michael Cole thinks it's funny almost guarentees that it isn't.

Haas is about as funny as when the Big Turd did the EXACT SAME GIMMICK about 6 years ago. Which is not at all.

Are these things getting voted on by the fans or is it just a complete work with WWE deciding who wins the awards?

I remember a couple of years ago saying she was improving amazingly well and I thought she could be a big time player in a few years. Oh well, I was close. :lol

Who's "The Big Turd"?

Big Show I guess, he did a comedy imposter gimmick a few years ago. I quite liked it. :lol
Oh yeah, as Hogan and Rikishi?
I love the idea that just because Michael Cole either finds something funny, or is pretending to find something funny, means it isnt funny. I think I physically laughed more at The GlamaHaas than I did at anything else this year, and this was the year of Santino.
