Anyone have any thoughts on our supposed Armageddon date?

Not only does the Mayan calender end on that date, but there have been predictions from astronomers, Edgar Casey and even Nostradamus that the world is going to change dramatically on or around that date.

Also does anyone have any predictions of their own about the state of global issues?

I did not FAIL to see your point Icon. Now you and I both know that neither one of us can prove or discount the exxistance of any sort of divine intelligence.

S***! Strangely enough, I'm gonna have to agree. Maybe Al can give one of them a gift as well.

At least I wont have to pay my student debt off :)

Damn it, i'll still see my 30th Birthday.

Can we move it forward a couple of weeks?

When people say 'the world will end' just what do they mean by that? All life will die? The Earth will disintigrate into nothingness? I won't make 20+ posts a day on TWO?

No-one ever specifies what 'the world will end' means and I want to know damn it!

As for Nostradamus, all his predictions were actully based on things that had already happened in history, back then astronomers (of which he was one) believed that time was circular and what had happened before would happen again in the future once time had gone full circle so his books are actually a recap of history rather then a prediction of the future!

Nem the day you don't make at least twenty posts will be the end of the world.:P

Most predictions about the end of the world are religious.

With Christians, there's two theories, one is The Rapture, where people who are good Christians just... vanish up to heaven, and everyone else is left behind and God abandons the Earth, the other is Armageddon, Jesus and the Anti-Christ have a fight. Everyone dies and goes to either heaven or hell, and thus there's no point in the world anymore.

For Jews, there's The End Of Days. All the Jews go back to Israel, the son of God is born and becomes king of Israel, the whole world declares war on Israel, everyone wins and goes to heaven where the Jews live in their ancient tribes, and rule over the non-Jews for eternity.

For Muslims, there's Quiyamah, or something that sounds vaguely like that. Pretty similar to the Christian one, Mohammed comes to Earth, all the good people go to heaven, all the bad ones go to hell.

For Rastafarians, the Emperor of Ethiopia will declare himself to be God and then we all get to go live in the garden of Eden, which is also, apparently, in Ethiopia.

The Mayans thought that humanity would be wiped out at some point so that God (the Sun to them) could make better versions of them.

All of them are pretty weird really. Most predictions are just people guessing when one of those things will happen. That, or it's stuff like meteorites, global warming, stuff that will either physically destroy the Earth, or change the global environment to the point that nothing would be able to live on it.

We're all going to die :cry

This site has a whole bunch of end of the world stories.

Honestly if you actually believe that the world is going to end on 2012 just on the fact some calendar has ended and some french crack pot says so then your crazy. Sorry if i might offend some people here.

I honestly believe that by midnight of the 20th (aka the moment it turns to the 21st) of december 2012, nothing will happen. The world will carry on as per normal

The same Ethiopia that has a population starving to death because they can't grow food in the soil is also home to the garden of Eden? :lol

I was going to ask the same question.

Come on man, you make it sound like it's the end of the world! :D

Well, it amused me anyway :lol

Yeah, I mean, like, what were they smoking, huh?

In their defense, they smoke a LOT of weed.

One of the best games of all time, especially if there's supernatural believers around to mock, is to take Nostradamus predictions, and try and guess what event they were predicting.

For example;

Songs, chants, and refrains of the slavish mob,

Whilst the Princes and King are captive in prison,

Shall be received in the future as oracles divine

By headless idiots deprived of judgment.

Songs, chants, and refrains of the slavish mob,

Workers united, strikes, rioting.

Whilst the Princes and King are captive in prison,

Tsar Nicholas II and his son held under house arrest

Shall be received in the future as oracles divine

Many Communist revolutions would come later in the future, following Russia "divine" "prediction".

By headless idiots deprived of judgment.

Communism's eventual ideal is Anarchy, so they would eventually have no head of state, thus being headless. They would have no judgement, because Communism is atheist.

Thus, I think he was talking about the Russian Revolution of 1918.

However, the Nostradamus website says he's talking about the French Revolution of 17... something.

That is a good game you have there Hancock, may have to go look at the Nostradamus website for quatrains and have a go myself :lol
