April 5, 200915 yr If you can be a fan of Triple H and not beat the crap out of people with sledgehammers, or a fan of Lita and not be a complete Slut, then it's entirely possible to be a Punk fan without being straight edge - So no, being a fan does not neccesarily constitute living the lifestyle.
April 5, 200915 yr In a similar vain, the only true Undertaker fans are all undead OK OK point taken.
April 5, 200915 yr Given that being straight edge is a big part of CM Punks character and plastered all over his merchandise I'm just wondering do you think you could have a few pints at the weekend and still call yourself a CM Punk fan? I know what you are getting at, but i think the answer is yes.
April 5, 200915 yr You'd probably have to be horrifically drunk or really high to get any enjoyment out of him these days because he's, ah, really quite dull. Yeah. But, um, interesting thread...
April 5, 200915 yr Some would say no-one could be a fan of his period, but thats beside the point :lol Of course you can be a fan of his without being straight edge, I liked Godfather and didn't use prostitutes after all
April 5, 200915 yr You can be a fan of whomever you want, no matter who you are and what you do. I like AC/DC but I can't play the guitar or drums.
April 5, 200915 yr I was a fan of Val Venis and I never watched porn :good222: ETC ETC ETC. Stupid thread.
April 5, 200915 yr I don't think it's a stupid thread, but the question is a bit off, if it were could you buy and proudly wear CM Punk merch (with Straight Edge logos on it) despite not being straight edge then the thread will make more sense, *** yeah you could be a fan of his but wearing shirts etc with slogans against drinking etc is kind of odd, especially if you are sitting at some pub getting hammered...

So anyone who wears a Finley t-shirt, which has Irish slogans and images in relation to someone from Belfast is a Republican? Anyone who wears one of HBK's shirts, with it's gothic crosses is a Christian? Are all the people who wear Scarface merchandise involved in the cocaine trade? It is a stupid thread. CM Punk's gimmick is of someone who straight edge. Whether or not he is in real life has nothing to do with anything. If people were wearing Phil Brookes t-shirts, this question might have even a slight grip on reality, but people aren't. They're wearing CM Punk t-shirts. A fictional name, for a fictional character who is portrayed as being straight edge. People wear his shirts because they like the entirely fictional character, CM Punk, who is associated with being straight edge. What CM Punk merchandise has slogans against drinking? They have Punk's catchphrases and slogans (in support of the character, not his lifestyle) and X-ed hands, which is a very ambiguous image. People wearing CM Punk stuff are supporting Punk, not supporting the life choices of a fictional character. This question is honestly so stupid I can't believe I dignified it with a proper response. April 5, 200915 yr What CM Punk merchandise has slogans against drinking? They have Punk's catchphrases and slogans (in support of the character, not his lifestyle) and X-ed hands, which is a very ambiguous image. People wearing CM Punk stuff are supporting Punk, not supporting the life choices of a fictional character.. CM Punk's gimmick is his lifestyle, you seem to have missed the fact he has straight edge tattooed across his stomach. The crosses on the back of his hands are very much a straight edge thing, as are his crossing his arms during his entrance (which he doesnt do that much anymore). CM punks merch is loaded with straight edge imagery, so people are effectively buying into the straight edge idea. his merch isn't specifically anti-drinking, but straight edge by nature is complete teetotalism, so you could say that could be construed as anti-drinking. I think the original question is a little skewed, but there is a valid point that it seems odd to wear straight edge themed clothing while being a drinker.
April 6, 200915 yr Its not Straight Edge merch, its CM Punk merch. Buying his stuff is NOT buying into the sXe life or ideals, its buying the stuff that shows you like a wrestler.
April 6, 200915 yr didnt say it was straight edge merch, said is was straight edge themed (which a lot of punks merch is), plus Punk's entire gimmick is based around the fact he is straight edge in real life, so it is like buying into those ideas.
April 6, 200915 yr Its nothing like buying into those ideas. Nothing at all. Its nothing more than buying a T shirt. To even consider that you have to buy into Straight Edge at all to own a CM Punk bit of merch or to be a fan or Punk is nothing more than stupid.
April 6, 200915 yr Its nothing like buying into those ideas. Nothing at all. Its nothing more than buying a T shirt. To even consider that you have to buy into Straight Edge at all to own a CM Punk bit of merch or to be a fan or Punk is nothing more than stupid. You have a really good (and by that I mean ****ing irritating) habit of twisting words to suit your own little pathetic vendettas. I'm not saying you have to buy into Straight Edge lifestyle to own a punk t-shirt or like him as a wrestler, I'm saying that, seen as punk's merch is very heavily straight edge themed, there is some merit in saying that, by owning a t-shirt such as this one: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Mr_foster/punkstrong4100.jpg?t=1238980508 you could be said to be embracing the Straight edge philosophies that CM punk portrays. Of course you could just be buying the T-shirt because it's cool, I never denied that, but it isn't stupid to say that some people buy a CM Punk T-shirt because they themselves are straight edge.
April 6, 200915 yr I'm not saying you have to buy into Straight Edge lifestyle to own a punk t-shirt or like him as a wrestler. Funny, you said CM punks merch is loaded with straight edge imagery, so people are effectively buying into the straight edge idea. didnt say it was straight edge merch, said is was straight edge themed (which a lot of punks merch is), plus Punk's entire gimmick is based around the fact he is straight edge in real life, so it is like buying into those ideas. So you did say that by buying his stuff you are buying into the straight edge idea. So maybe stop being such a whiney little crybaby and grow up a bit. Any time you get outargued (every time you get into an argument) you act like its a personal thing. As for the rest, nobody doubts that some people who like Punk are sXe. But its just stupid to think that somebody HAS to be sXe to buy his stuff. 100% stupid.
