From Digital Spy:

Couture signs on for 'MMA'

Sunday, August 16 2009, 10:20 BST

By Mark Langshaw, Gaming/Comics Reporter

Mixed martial arts heavyweight Randy Couture has signed on to appear in EA Sports Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), the studio has confirmed.

The five-time world champion will star alongside some of the discipline's best-known fighters, including Fedor Emelianenko, Jay 'The Thoroughbred' Hieron and others.

"I have been a part of MMA for over ten years and I am excited about the global visibility that a game like EA Sports MMA will bring to the sport," said Randy Couture. "Like my fighting career, I look forward to taking on all comers in EA Sports MMA."

According to EA Sports, the game will deliver "the most authentic, intense and broad mixed martial arts experience to date - complete with a vast array of top fighters and fighting styles from around the world".

EA Sports MMA will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.

So, Randy Couture didn't appear in the UFC game, and now is going to be in this one.

Well, we can only see if it's any good.

And EA dared to scoff when UFC approached them with an offer to create a game for them? Tossers.
Ah yes, the infamous accusations that nobody at EA had heard of before Dana claimed it.

Exactly.

Every time you hear/read Dana White say something and you believe it, just make sure you imagine yourself to be a WWE diehard who takes Vince McMahon's word as gospel.

The guy is a manipulative, whining asshole.

EA told Dana White MMA wasn't a "real sport" and refused to make a game with him, but then two and a half months after UFC 2009 proves to be a hit, they scurry and have a functioning game engine?

Nothing of the sort happened.

Also, let's see Dana go back on more of his radical claims. Randy and Fedor will be in the game. I fully expect to see them blacklisted from the UFC....not doggedly pursued. People just need to understand that Dana White is effectively working the media, at ALL times.

EDIT: I'm also really stoked on Mousasi being in the game. Dude is (well, was, as he says he can't make weight anymore) the best middleweight in the world not named Anderson. He just bodied Sobral for the Strikeforce LHW title, and may just pull off a feat of Royce Gracie proportions and win the DREAM Superhulk Grand Prix. He's also said he would sign with the UFC if everything was right. Will Dana be blacklisting him, too?

Is it too late to turn back on my argument Icon style and claim I was being sarcastic? No? Good. :xyx

Fedor?

Yes please.

UFC Undisputed was decent but was missing a few things to make it a great game or MMA simulator.

Maybe this can be a touch better.

It's all well and good having these big names in the game, but nobody has seen anything of it yet. Not even a screen. A huge factor in UFC's success was that the game itself is fantastic to play. It's not that easy building a fighter from scratch and not have it's problems. Especially one so intricate that it must obey MMA rules and disciplines and not only that it also MUST be better than UFC when it's released to win this little war.

I mean, sunsoft could have announced an MMA game for the NES with Fedor and Couture on the cover, just like EA have if they paid for their likenesses.

If anyone can build a sports title that's both accessible and deep, it's EA, the long time king of sports titles.

That being said, I was hoping the game would be handled by EA Canada, which is now home to the former EA Chicago group who've made all the Fight Games and the Def Jam games. Instead it's being done by Tiburon, the Madden, NCAA Football, and Tiger Woods guys.

The fighters on the newest UFC game will hardly be on this game will they? There's surely licensing issues there...

An interesting thing EA could do is include women fighters in the game.
