The BBC today revealed that the companion for the forthcoming series of Doctor Who will be Karen Gillan.

Twenty-one-year-old Gillan will star alongside new Time Lord, Matt Smith, when the smash hit drama returns to BBC One in spring 2010.

With filming due to begin this summer, Gillan beat off dozens of hopefuls to land one of television's most coveted roles.

Gillan said: "I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor's new companion. The show is such a massive phenomenon that I can't quite believe I am going to be a part of it.

"Matt Smith is an incredible actor and it is going to be so much fun to act alongside him – I just can't wait to get started!"

Lead writer and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat, added: "We saw some amazing actresses for this part, but when Karen came through the door the game was up. Funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it. A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too."

Executive Producer and Head of Drama BBC Wales, Piers Wenger, said: "We knew Karen was perfect for the role the moment we saw her. She brought an energy and excitement to the part that was just fantastic. And when she auditioned alongside Matt we knew we had something special. It is a partnership that is ready to take on the universe!"

The new series of Doctor Who comes to BBC One, Spring 2010.

The whole new series is going to have me hooked. The complete rehaul of the Tardis, new assistant, finally finding out how the Doctor and River know each other, the return of the Weeping Angels(Blink is by far one of the best if not creepiest episodes ever), Daleks and now Cybermen too! The Cyberman looks odd in the video though, watch it closely.

Should be a preview on the red button at various times as of tommorow i think.
Nothing on my red button... however, tomorrow the BBC site will screen the 1st minute of the first new episode...
I was very skeptical about the new doctor but that trailer alone has reignited my Dr Who fetish and is making it a must watch first episode.
I'm sorry, but... Who? :P

I'm just joshin, y'all. I've seen an episode or two of this Dr. Who on the SciFi Channel: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/TWOstar/dr10.jpg

and even had a really really old Dr. Who computer game on a PC (literally) as old as I am with different letters chasing a "W" around. Which was... I believe, based off of this Who: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/TWOstar/dr4.jpg

I only know that much, as my parent's consider themselves to be very well educated , by knowing these kinds of things. But it's just nouveau-riche, if you ask me.

So, I'm JUST being a "cheeky bastard" as you might say, ol' chap. :D

I guessed you know what Doctor Who was, I was just going along with the 'Who, which Who is Who?' joke I thought you were making. :)

Ah, I see... But, no. No, I'm not THAT clever. :lol

Darkstar, your pictures run off the side of the screen and can't be seen.

Not for me... I see them as:

Same here. I'm on Opera 10.55 (I think, it's .5 something),

And I'm using firefox on a Macbook. So if anything should be ****ed up, I think it'd be the ... non... PC... that I'm using.

Saw a little of Matt Smith on Wossy last night. Said he wanted to do at least one more series and then maybe a couple more. Maybe?

I'm already scouring for the auditions to be the 12th Doctor, I'd make an awesome Doctor lol.

They showed a clip from Vampires in Venice, looks bloody good, and I think Smith really is going to outshine Tennant

Already reported it to Kam as, for some reason, it wont let me deal with it.

Edit: fixed now.

What a con, the '1st minute' they promised us is about 30 seconds of the Tardis spinning out of control and Matt Smith holding on to save from falling out.
Oh come on, you really think they'd give you anything more than just a quick taste? :)
