According to a reliable source, World Wrestling Entertainment plans to put the ECW brand to rest once and for all in the near future as I noted earlier here on the website. WWE officials have had several meetings with the Syfy network about re-branding WWE’s Tuesday night show.

Β

Both sides are in agreement that WWE’s version of ECW has been a bust and plans are already being made for a new weekly series. While several ideas have been tossed around (including a magazine-style recap show), right now it appears that WWE wants to make the new Tuesday night brand a β€œWWE minor league” and feature young up-and-coming stars.

Β

WWE relaunched the ECW brand back in 2006 after the undeniable success of the β€œRise and Fall of ECW” DVD set and later the ECW One Night Stand Pay-Per-View events. After ECW was relaunched as a brand, it quickly became apparent that WWE had no intention of keeping the elements that made the original ECW special and turned ECW into a watered-down, generic β€œC” show.

Β

While it may be bittersweet to see the ECW letters go, ECW has been dead for a long time and a brand featuring primarily young stars sounds like it has potential.

Β

Stay tuned for the latest.

Β

Looks like ECW Dies again! :D But perhaps the idea replacing it will be worth the sacrifice.

Isn't that what's it has pretty much always been? Minus the main eventers of course, but well since it came back it's seemingly always been about introducing up and coming stars i.e. Punk, Sheamus, Burke, Tatsu, Kingston to name but a few.

I'm all for this. Let ECW die once and for all.
....Isn't it already a WWE minor league? Why remove a legitimate face with a legit title from it?

Long overdue

it's about time. This version of ECW couldn't IMO hold a candle to the old ECW. I'm surprised this version lasted this long. Good riddence is what I say.I mean one little federation with only one title shouldn't have lasted this long at all.

I'm very sceptical about this new concept. No one would want to watch a show with green no-name talents.

Thats why nobody watches ECW now, its a load of old sh*t.
Wonder if FCW shows will take the slot that ECW leaves should this happen?

Except that a lot of the time this year it has been doing really well (match wise) putting on a number of great matches.

WWEECW has been dead in the water for a while now.

Β

I mean it's hardly the end of ECW, it never was that to begin with.

Β

Personally I think it's a crap idea having two brands, nevermind a third so I'd back this to changed to a catch-up show or something.

Β

That would be awesome, FCW could provide great televison and play a good role in making the "next generation" known without having to job them out on Raw / Smackdown. Somehow I don't see it gelling with SyFi's network identity - I don't really see how wrestling does to be honest.

Β

What WWE have done to ECW is like Skoda buying Aston Martin and launching an Octavia under an Aston Martin badge - It may say it's an Aston .. but it just isn't.

So in other words they're just changing the name, and probably changing or ditching the title. Pointless

If it was like the ECW of old the ECW we see now would've survived. The old ECW had everything the new one didn't have:three championships, lots of talent, and a nice staple of tag teams.

Β

Not to mention the action was so much better then than ever was now. The old Ecw overall was less production-wise but gave hardcore wrestling fans so much more compared to the craptacular cleaned up version we've had to endure for 3 years now. Good riddence I say.Old ECW rules! :good222:

Β

Just like the old ECW did. Oh, wait...

I have noticed that ECW and WWE Superstars have been scoring pretty much equal ratings the last couple of weeks. This says something about ECW in my opinion.

Β

What I don't fully understand is why it took so long for WWE to change the name of the show/brand. Why now, more than three years later, is it suddenly time to change the name of the show?

Β

This is going to sound incredibly stupid on my part, but when I visited WWE.com today, I accidentally clicked on an ad or something and it started to take me to a subsite of theirs with the url having "/undefined" at the end of it. I thought about it for a second and realized that the new show could be called WWE Undefined! It's just a thought.

Β

They will probably remove the new show as the third brand too, I would think seeing as ECW is barely considered a brand as it is.

Β

I also read that SmackDown is set to undergo some big changes around the time ECW is set to make their changes; with their possibly being a weekly Guest Host for SmackDown like they have on RAW. I really hope this is not true, though.

Β

I am interested to see what they do with the ECW Championship and the veteran wrestlers they have on the show like Christian, William Regal, & Goldust. Will they be moved to RAW or SmackDown or will it remain like it is now with a few veteran talents and the rest of the roster being younger talent?

This is going to sound incredibly stupid on my part
You got that right. :lol

Did you read that part or are you just making your own assumptions again?

:lol No, I read that part. It was worded differently, though. Here's the report from 411mania.com:

Β

There are also talks about making changes to the Smackdown brand, but there are no specifics on what the changes may be. The feeling is that the guest hosts gimmick has added depth to the Raw show, and that changes to Smackdown have to be made.

Β

Granted, that could mean anything related to the "depth" of SmackDown.

I have noticed that ECW and WWE Superstars have been scoring pretty much equal ratings the last couple of weeks. This says something about ECW in my opinion.

Yeah that 1.1-1.4 range is just as bad as that 0.7-0.9 range Superstars

What does this even mean....were they suppose to change it five minutes after they realized it wasn't the bloodbath wrestling that ECW was?

Β

You mean with it's completely lack of separate roster, storylines, brand defined championship, completely different setting design

Where?

Good matches dont draw, they never have and never will.

Actually, ECW & WWE Superstar have both been pulling 1.0 ratings lately.

Β

They should have changed the name after it no longer had any resemblance to ECW; late 2007 or so.

Β

When I say that ECW is barely considered a brand, I am talking about it's lack of presence on pay-per-views and specials that WWE has. On the overall scale of things, WWE focuses much more on RAW and SmackDown than they do on ECW with it seeming like ECW is not even a part of the WWE sometimes.

Β

Superstars got 1.0 this week as an all-time high rating. ECW scrapes some 1.0s as their lows. They're not exactly at the same level yet.
