Spike TV To Televise An Action-Packed Fight Card Originally Slated For PPV

12th August 2010

Spike TV will telecast a special Total Nonstop Action Wrestling "iMPACT!" event on Thursday 12th August at 9/8c featuring the biggest names in TNA, including TNA World Heavyweight Champion Rob Van Dam, Abyss, Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle, "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles, "The Charismatic Enigma" Jeff Hardy and many more.

The special "TNA Thursday Night iMPACT!" features a lineup of matches originally slated for the "Hard Justice" pay-per-view event on Sunday 8th August. The card was moved to Spike TV after TNA President Dixie Carter and "The Extreme Original" Tommy Dreamer announced a one-night-only "HardCORE Justice" pay-per-view event to celebrate the superstars who created hardcore wrestling.

"The change to "HardCORE Justice" provided TNA with the opportunity to take the original August pay-per-view card and move it to Spike TV. This will allow TNA fans a pay-per-view type experience on TNA "iMPACT!"..."If you've never seen a TNA pay-per-view event before, this is your chance to see what you've been missing," TNA President Dixie Carter said.

The special 12th August edition of TNA "iMPACT" will be two hours of nonstop wrestling, featuring only matches originally slated for pay-per-view. Pop culture icon and TNA Wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan will oversee the special "iMPACT!", which includes two world title matches as well as the fifth and final installment of a best-of-five-match series between the top tag-teams in wrestling, Beer Money and Motor City Machine Guns!

LOL Abyss.

Please elaborate.

As the show's gonna be all wrestling (which is TNA's strength) and Abyss is one of the best hardcore wrestlers around I don't see whats wrong with him having a no DQ ladder match with another hardcore specialist in RVD.

The 'Janice' stuff is even more retarded than the 'magic mystical ring' storyline. Abyss is a huge jobber now, just TNA havent realised it yet.

Since he turned on Hogan and shoved the ring down his throat, he has been doing his part just fine. I dont understand why people are still giving him grief. He can have relatively good matches and he cuts a decent promos where he gets his point across, doesnt sound nervous or stumble over his words.

Yeah, he shouldnt be main event, but he is and with what he is being asked to do, he is doing as good a job as can be expected of him.

Abyss is an amazing promo when he's allowed to deliver one. It's rare, though. He's an idiot in the ring though.

The concept of this show is fine and I think that if Russo doesn't interfere then it'll be a really good show, but I predict it's going to ever so slightly hurt the buyrate for Hardcore Justice (which isn't going to peak over 20k, my official prediction-so-help-me-god-if-they-do-60k-and-I-have-to-try-and-post-afterwards) as TNA are building it as "watch this show, this show is much more important than the PPV and we have a full card for you here so THIS is the one to watch." Which isn't so bad these days since their PPVs are doing next to nothing. But the ECW revival isn't working as TNA had hoped it to and I don't think this is going to help it.

But it'll be a good self-contained show, so that's a plus.

Sites are reporting this is from the Wrestling Observer:

As reported earlier, next week’s episode of TNA iMPACT! will feature match-ups initially pegged for Sunday’s pay-per-view event. One of the matches advertised for iMPACT! is Jeff Hardy’s “Open Challenge.” The open challenge is expected to be met by a wrestler let go by World Wrestling Entertainment earlier this year.

The guys released in 2010 it could be are:

Tommy Dreamer, DJ Gabriel, Eric Escobar, Shane “Hurricane” Helms, Paul Burchill, Charlie Haas, Lance Cade, Shelton Benjamin, Slam Master J, Jimmy Wang Yang, Funaki, Mike Knox, Tony Atlas.

It's probably just Tommy Dreamer but Hurricane, Wang Yang, Haas and Benjamin would be welcome additions.

From that list I'd say the probability would be Helms seeing as he has been sniffing around looking for a job in TNA and he is Hardy's mate. I'd prefer Shelton out of all of them though.

ROH contracts arent worth the paper they are printed on for the most part, most ROH guys could probably just show up in TNA whenever they felt like it and Shelton is working paid per appearance no doubt. I still expect its that loser Helms but I'd love it to be Shelton.

I'm actually expecting Benjamin, against all odds...the ROH deal actually seems like something that would enable him to be a TNA acquirement easily.

I hope it is Helms and not Shelton Botchamin and his tag-along Charlie Haas.

You must be the only person I've heard say they'd prefer Hurricane over Benjamin/Haas.

Each to their own and all that stuff I suppose.

TNA has some of the best gifted wrestlers around in Styles, Angle, MCMG, Wolfe, etc. And adding 2 more gifted athletes in Benjamin and Haas would be a dream.

But I just dopn't see what Hurricane can add. I've never really liked the guy and he kinda reminds me of Kendrick who is one of the poorest guys in TNA right now in my opinion.

Helms is buddies with the Hardy's, Shannon Morre, Anderson and quite a few others. He'll get the job before the other two, easily.

Besides, he's fantastic inside and outside the ring. How many 5 star quality promos have either Haas or especially Benjamin delivered? NONE! Don't even bother to give me the line, "well they could work with them."

We all know that you're a Benjamin mark. Put your foam finger away and deal with reality in 2010.

Helms is fantastic inside and outside the ring? News to me. He's a shitty promo and always has been and I dont remember the last time he had a great, memorable match. Infact, I dont recall him EVER having a great match, just your average run of the mill cruiser style nonsense. No selling etc.

Shelton is far superior to Helms in every way.

Benjamin mark? No I'm not, if you think it's because of my username; my username was GoldSheldon which was inspired by Goldust and the guy off Big Bang Theory and then I just changed it to GoldStandard because people kept calling me GoldShelton.

Sure Haas and Benjamin weren't the best talkers in WWE. I'm not saying they'd be brilliant in TNA, but promos in TNA are a different kettle of fish as they're ad libbed for the most part and as a performer that would be heaven as you can add your own mark to your promos. Austin is stale and boring in scripted promos but give him a mic and tell him to do his thing and you're looking at dollar signs. We haven't seen Haas or Benjamin in those sort promos so they've never been tested in that area.

And what wrestling fan wouldn't like to see Haas and Benjamin in TNA if it means them wrestling a program with Beer Money and/or MCMG??
