At its E3 press briefing, Sony confirmed that PlayStation 4 will require PlayStation Plus in order to play games online. This is similar to Microsoft's current approach to online gaming with Xbox Live Gold. At the same time, Sony also confirmed that you'll be able to play all single-player games as well as use all media services without subscribing to PS+. Your current PS3 membership will transfer over to PS4.

 

Additionally, Sony confirmed some upcoming additions to the Instant Game Collection will include Don't Starve, Outlast, Secret Ponchos, and DriveClub PS Plus Edition.

 

Sony dropped a megaton announcement tonight when it revealed that the PlayStation 4 would cost $399 — $100 less than Microsoft's Xbox One — but what exactly does MSRP net you? In addition to the specs detailed in February, Sony has confirmed that the PS4 will ship with a 500GB hard drive, putting it toe-to-toe with Microsoft.

Here's Sony's E3 conference, word of warning though it is 2 hours long, I just started it so no idea if there's anything NSFW in it but I would doubt it, IGN's reaction is that they have probably seriously hurt Microsoft by directly responding to all the stuff that got people angry in the Xbox One reveal and saying they aren't going to do it.

I said I wasn't going to pre-order a new console ever, but I've been swayed into pre-ordering a PS4. So far Sony have beaten Microsoft at everything other than the release date and I really can't wait for it to come out.

 

Just need to save some money now. Anyone got a fiver I can "borrow"?

Both of those console designs look sh*t/the same.

Well I was undecided but I think PS4 has just won me over

One cool thing that's not in that graphic and I don't know if the video I posted covers it, PS4 is going to be region free though I would bet it's most likely that the machines will be region free but developers can lock the individual games if they wish.

Technically, the same as PS3 then, ie. developers are free to be dickheads, but Sony isn't going to help them. That's a policy I can live with, since it allows me to vote with my feet.
