The purses for the Showtime PPV card this weekend:

Mayweather $32m

Maidana $1.5m

Khan $1.5m

Collazo $400k

Broner $1.25m

Molina $150k

They're all guaranteed figures too and some, especially Mayweather and Maidana, will get a cut of the PPV sales on top of that, plus additional money from the MGM, sponserships etc..

I'm not quite sure because it depends on how successful the show is but looking at past figures as a guide, I'd expect Mayweather to pick up an extra $15-20m and all the other big earners to get maybe another $500k-1m at least. For the Canelo fight, which was huge, Mayweather initially earned a guaranteed $41.5m but his overall earnings were definitely over $80m, and probably close to $100m, whereas with the Cotto fight, which was also big, Mayweather was guaranteed $32m but 'only' ended up making $45m.

It's madness, I don't even get how they're covering those costs. I'm a very casual Mayweather fan, meaning I usually only become a boxing fan when I get into the hype of his fights, but I haven't really heard a promotional peep going into this one. I didn't even know the fight was this weekend until you said so, where as, with the Canelo fight, I was counting down the days for, like, a month.

Yeah, it's gone under the radar because nobody really buys his opponent as being a threat, plus he's Argentinian so he doesn't have the usual fanbase Mayweather opponents have. Given the lack of interest, including from boxing fans, it's a huge amount of money for him to be guaranteed. The card won't flop but I find it hard to imagine Showtime making much profit on this as a standalone event, though I'm sure their profit from the Canelo fight will make up for that.

Yeah, I think it'd do alright in America. Khan has always attracted good TV ratings on HBO and Showtime, and he's well known for being in brilliant fights, so whilst it wouldn't be as big now as it would have been before he lost to Garcia and Peterson, it's still a fight that'd get the attention of a lot of people in America. I'd imagine it'd do around the 1m PPV mark, which would be a success but the other factor is the UK PPV money. Khan has one fight left on his BoxNation deal, which will expire after he fights Collazo, and after that, he's free to fight on Sky again which means that it'll likely be on Box Office PPV over here too. Ever since the Hatton fight, Mayweather has wanted to tap into the British market because he knows how lucrative it is, so fighting Khan brings a lot of additional revenue to the table. Over here, I'd guess a Mayweather fight would do around 400-500k buys, so it'd be an success internationally as well as in America.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Mayweather wanted the fight to be over here either. He has probably seen the ticket sales for Froch/Groves II and knows he could sell out Wembley if he fought Khan, so his business trip to London in a few weeks is likely to be about that, I imagine. That fight would sell 80k tickets in less than an hour, it'd do good PPV numbers over here and I think it'd be a PPV success in America too. It's not a great fight in terms of competitiveness but it might make the most financial sense and for Mayweather, that's what matters the most.

Boxing is such a weird sport right now. For a certain few select guy it does monster numbers beyond belief, but overall, its such a load of shit compared to the old days, especially the pathetic heavyweight division. The smaller guys, especially Mexicans, I can't get into them at all. Boring. And the fact Mayweather gets to hand pick his opponents is such a joke, makes the whole sport look retarded. The inmates shouldn't run the asylum.
