15 Superstars Who Should Have "One More Match" (according to WWE.com)

Every once in a while, WWE.com posts a list that peaks my interest for a friendly debate and their latest is a list of 15 Superstars (which includes two Divas) who should return for "one more match". I agree with a few of these while others I have no interest in. In any case, here's the list. What do you think?

  1. The Undertaker
  2. Stone Cold Steve Austin
  3. Goldberg
  4. Shawn Michaels
  5. Shane McMahon
  6. Hulk Hogan
  7. Kurt Angle
  8. Mr. McMahon
  9. Michelle McCool
  10. JBL
  11. The Dudley Boyz
  12. Steve Blackman
  13. Trish Stratus
  14. Papa Shango
  15. Scott Steiner

Right off the top, let me just say that I have no interest in seeing Papa Shango, Trish Stratus, Steve Blackman, Michelle McCool, Mr. McMahon, Hulk Hogan, Shane McMahon, or Shawn Michaels ever wrestle again. In fact, why is Papa Shango or Steve Blackman even on this list? Seems random to me.

When it comes to The Undertaker, I would be perfectly content not seeing him compete anymore. They ended the streak, so what's the point of The Undertaker coming back? By ending the streak, WWE pretty much took away the only reason for The Undertaker to still compete. While a lot of people probably still want to see Sting vs. The Undertaker (why isn't Sting on this list, by the way?), I think that would prove to be a mistake at this point in their careers.

I've pretty much given up all hope on ever seeing Stone Cold Steve Austin wrestle again (not that I was entirely sold on the idea to begin with). There's nothing in it for Austin at this point. He doesn't need the payoff and he certainly doesn't need to risk his physical well-being. I also can't see an opponent for Austin that would still be able to bring out the best in Austin. The only person that comes to mind is Triple H, but how interesting of a match would that really be?

With the exception of JBL, Goldberg seems to be the guy on this list closest to doing one more match, but I highly doubt he will bring anything special to his "one more match" scenario. The obvious opponent for Goldberg would be Roman Reigns. There's also Ryback, but Ryback vs. Goldberg would be a terrible idea compared to Reigns vs. Goldberg, but Reigns would likely have to carry Goldberg throughout the match and, as long as Goldberg has been away from the ring, it could turn out to be a dud.

Despite what I think about his life and career choices, I've always been a fan of Kurt Angle's in-ring work and the prospect of seeing Kurt Angle vs. Daniel Bryan is very appealing to me. However, much like most of the people on this list, Kurt Angle's physical health is a major obstacle in his ability to have another match in WWE. Maybe it's a delusional hope, but I think that Kurt Angle could get in decent enough shape to meet WWE's physical requirements to compete. For better or for worse, Angle has always done whatever it takes to keep himself in decent in-ring shape.

Given recent events (doing my best to avoid a spoiler here), I think it's a fairly good possibility that we will see JBL have at least one more match. Considering that he climbs mountains for charity, JBL seems like he is in pretty good shape. It would not be the first time that JBL has been "coaxed" away from the announce table to be an active competitor. I would be interested in seeing JBL have one last run as an active competitor. Sure, he may be flabby and stiff to work with (like he was the last time he competed), but as long as he can still hit a good Clothesline From Hell, I would be all for it.

Since we are talking about the modern day Dudley Boyz here (which are non-existent when you think about it), I have no interest in seeing Devon compete again, but Bully Ray can still work and I would love to see him bring the "bully" character to WWE. Have you seen his calves? Enough said :lol

Ever since his post-Steiner Brothers days, Scott Steiner has been a poor wrestler, at best. Steiner's promos have become the focus point of his career. I don't want to see Scott Steiner compete as he would likely injure himself, not to mention his opponent, so unless they just have Steiner come in to cut promos, I can pass on seeing Steiner wrestle again.

Only person I'd want to see from that list is Hogan. The fact Undertaker is number one when he not only hasnt retired but also only just wrestled 2 months ago is a joke.

Stone Cold Steve Austin

Goldberg

Shawn Michaels

Hulk Hogan

Kurt Angle

Trish Stratus

Happily see the above 6 in one more or plus match. Hogan I don't think can wrestle again.

The remaining 5 I think will possibly wrestle another match. Kurt Angle I imagine will wrestle and sign with WWE to initiate his eventual retirement in a few years time, same with Goldberg but I can only see him returning for a Wrestlemania match and HOF induction. Steve Austin also has one more match in him but I don't think he's obviously bothered.

What would be wrong with Trish having one more match?

There's nothing "wrong" with Trish having one more match, it's just something I'm personally not interested in seeing.

Kurt Angle retiring in WWE is the best way to go for him and for the company. I'm a firm believer that a wrestler should retire while contracted to the company that made him (or her). When it comes to guys like Kurt Angle or Sting, I think that they want their retirement to be on the biggest stage possible and that is something only WWE can provide. WWE knows how to give proper send-offs and they know how to get the most out of them.

WWE.com always amuse me with their thrown-together "list" articles, such as the one that suggested Ray Mysterio Jnr would have come higher in a top twenty of masked wrestlers, above Tiger Mask, Jushin Liger and El Santo.

I laughed until I pissed myself at that one.

I would like to see Ken Shamrock one more time. He was a really tough fighter and the first wrestler with a MMA background.

Dan Servern was wrestling before Shamrock.

Dan Severn made his pro wrestling debut in 1991, and his MMA debut in 1994.

Ken Shamrock made his pro wrestling debut in 1988/1989, and his MMA debut was in 1993.

So while Severn was doing the whole 'MMA fighter as a pro wrestler' gimmick before Shamrock (as he did the whole worked shoot style UWF-I thing), Shamrock debuted as both a pro wrestler and MMA fighter before Severn.

Oh well in that case, my mistake. I didn't think Shamrock was wrestling much before his WWF debut in 1997. You learn a new thing every day, or in my case, once or twice a year ;)

  1. The Undertaker
  2. Stone Cold Steve Austin
  3. Goldberg
  4. Shawn Michaels
  5. Shane McMahon
  6. Hulk Hogan
  7. Kurt Angle
  8. Mr. McMahon
  9. Michelle McCool
  10. JBL
  11. The Dudley Boyz
  12. Steve Blackman
  13. Trish Stratus
  14. Papa Shango
  15. Scott Steiner

Of the list, the only ones I disagree with are the Divas, Steve Blackman, JBL, Papa Shango and Scott Steiner.

I just have no interest in seeing Trish or Michelle in the ring, I wouldn't mind seeing one more match with Lita, but it would need a decent build-up. Steve Blackman, JBL and Papa Shango are characters that now don't interest me in the slightest. JBL was only decent as Bradshaw in a team with Faarooq, and would be the only reason why I would want to see him in the ring again. Papa Shango also had better characters, but none would interest me. Steve Blackman had some good feuds, but from memory they were only decent due to the work from the other wrestlers, such as the spots from Shane and the matches involved in the Shamrock feud. Scott Steiner would interest me if he could still do it. He looked awful back in '02, and although a lot of the other superstars couldn't do anything justice nowadays, Scott Steiner wasn't ever big enough imo to warrant sitting through a feud and resulting match when it's going to be terrible..

The others I would love to see, and it could work depending on who they faced, there were always rumours of Goldberg/Ryback for WM this year, and even Austin/Punk which would have been immense, although he should have been involved in the title picture. Kurt Angle should have more than just the one match.

I saw someone mention why Sting isn't on the list. I'm guessing as WWE.com is a website for all ages, with a huge emphasis on the younger generation, although the list has a lot of the older wrestlers, Sting has never wrestled in the WWE, and some of these fans won't realise he has a contract, and that's even if it has been sorted at this point.
