I still love this match.

Boooooooooo!!

Ha, I remember watching that.

I also have a fuzzy recollection of a very early Cena appearance where some megastar is talking down at him in the ring and Cena slaps his face, and everyone's like "woooaah".

Might have been Angle, maybe a week or two after this, but my screwy memory is picturing Triple H instead.

Cheers!

The beginning of the end!

Isn't that the "Ruthless Agression" bit from 6:38 in the video DC posted?

Yes it could very well be :lol. However I do seem to remember more of a silent stare down before Cena slaps the guy. It could even be closer to the start of his battle rap days. I can't remember exactly when, or if it was just the slap in that video.

EDIT: a quick googly reveals the one I'm thinking of. A few years ago now but not an early Cena thing by any stretch

Hopefully the formatting works.

My god, he looks like an uglier Tyson Kidd.
I remember watching that Smackdown.......never imagined Cena would get as far as he has
I still think that there'll be a moment at Wrestlemania one year, where Cena fluffs a move and his head drops off, revealing that he's actually an Iron Man-like robotic suit that's been piloted throughout his career by a succession of seven-year-old and rather hyperactive boys.
It's a shame considering that the Thuganomics character actually had some appeal and worked to an extent.. However, this character over the years since I had been out of the loop has really created a storm, to the point where the booking of the character and his inability to sell has stopped the development of great wrestlers in their tracks!

I can't agree that Cena's stopped the development of any potential headliners, in fact I'd argue that quite a few have made it in the WWE despite his efforts in their respective matches.

To me at least, that's the baffling miracle of Cena, that he seems to be employed to present the character of a scatologically fixated moron, who dresses like a nine-year-old and wrestles in the manner of a cack-handed clown unable to grasp the need to either make his own offensive look convincing or logically sell that of others.

But yet he's still there after twelve years, stinking up the ring, especially when we live in a day and age when the very kids who cheer him and buy his merchandise are, we're told by supposed experts, possessed of attention spans shorter than the hairs on Cena's own crew-cut melon.

Arguably the likes of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Bray Wyatt and all three members of the Shield have become headliners in spite of Cena's involvement in their WWE careers at various stages and I can't think of a person that got into the ring with him who was seriously damaged and yet could have been a genuine world-beater (seriously, who? Ryback?), I mean name one for me.

My issue with him is the amount of prominence he's given and the fact that he seems to get stuffed into the mix whenever they're short of ideas, but if they laid off him a little or even rested him for a decent period of time (as they'll never turn him), I honestly think that I wouldn't want to spit at the site of him so damn much.

The illusion of the Cena character fell away when he transferred to the live broadcast of Raw
Well, we may still have many years of him yet, lol!
