It's been coming for a while, but ergh. She was one of those old fashioned New York institutions, a Letterman, or a Woody, or a Mason, or a Yankees. Not a personal favourite, but just an absolute institution, a lost piece of history. It's like them pulling down an abandoned synagog on the Lower East Side. Sure, it was abandoned, but sometimes history outweighs that.

Totally kidding about the whole "murdered" thing by the way. I thought it was interesting how she said that stuff about the Obamas back in July only to end up in serious condition during a throat surgery. It's almost like an old school mafioso way of sending a message to others to keep their mouths shut.

Seriously I think it's very sad. I've been a fan of Joan Rivers for a very long time. She was always funny and never held anything back which is what comedy is all about. She truly got it and I loved her for that.

Rest is peace, Joan Rivers - The Queen of Comedy.

Is it wrong that I'm not all that fussed about this? Like, sorry for her family and stuff but ok...

Not really. It's like most of these type of threads where it's "80 year old dies". That sucks for their family but they were 80. I think I am more affected when the death is premature like the bloke from f&f. That would have been a shock but someone who was 80? It's not so much of one.

I only said ti because someone I know of facebook pointed out that facebook and the media in general has been a bit meh about her dying and then when someone said that they didn't really find her particularly funny or relevant someone else got massively defensive about it. So I was wondering if it;s just me or what... Like I said I don't care enough to have a strong opinion either way.

Who said it was shocking?

Yeah it's not shocking or all that sad really. I mean she was pretty old and we all have to go sometime right? She had a very respectable "high score."

I'm not broken up about it like with Robin Williams or anything.

That was kind of what the guy on FB was saying, it seems people are just not a bothered as the last few celeb deaths like Mayall or Williams. I know in the UK we're massively less exposed to Joan Rivers so it's kind of expected on FB perhaps but I think it's also not been pushed as hard in the media compared to most other of the recent ones.

Joan Rivers had surprise throat biopsy that cut off her air supply, source claims

The routine surgical procedure Joan Rivers was supposed to undergo turned deadly when a doctor who arrived at the clinic with the legendary comic’s entourage performed an unplanned biopsy on her vocal cords, a medical source who was briefed on the case told The News.

Such a procedure is not supposed to be performed outside of a hospital, according to medical experts.

The Aug. 28 biopsy at Yorkville Endoscopy, an E. 93rd St. clinic that usually only deals with digestive issues, caused Rivers' vocal chords to seize — a condition doctors call a laryngospasm — cutting off her air supply, the source said.

A biopsy like that should only be done in a hospital setting,” the source said.

“If she had been in a hospital when it happened, she might have been okay,” the source said.

Rivers’ doctor — who identified himself as an ear, nose and throat specialist — asked if he could use their instruments when the clinic’s doctor noticed "something" on Rivers’ vocal chords, according to the source.

He asked and they let him,” the source said. “A huge no-no.

The source added that the “Fashion Police” star had only signed off on an endoscopy — not the far more dangerous biopsy of her vocal chords.

A representative for Rivers declined to comment. A spokeswoman for Yorkville Endoscopy said she couldn’t comment because of patient confidentiality laws.
