February 3, 201510 yr Is that Mortal Kombat "X" as in "x-rated" or "ten", because I of course remember the original (played that for the first time in an arcade in Spain on a school trip :)), and I seem to remember a sequel, maybe two sequels tops, but not 8 sequels!? Whatever though, it looks absolutely immense. A must have. Gratuitous and schlocky, just like it should be. Cheers!
February 4, 201510 yr It is the tenth game, but Ed Boon has stated this game is not Mortal Kombat 10 (as the last one, although being the ninth game, was a reset), it's Mortal Kombat X (pronounced "ex").
February 4, 201510 yr Conan O'Brien did a Clueless Gamer for it with Marshawn Lynch and Rob Gronkowski which was fantastic. The only thing I have an issue with is how gruesome the fatalities are getting, I have no problem with them being in the games but I'm getting slightly worried about the state of mind of the people who come up with them in the first place.
February 5, 201510 yr As someone who has only played Mortal Kombat and similar games on the odd occasion, is there a strategy element to these games or is it just buttom bashing? I ask as I only end up bashing every button like a lunatic usually in the hope some big combo takes place.
February 5, 201510 yr Not really a strategy element, no, but learning the combos/powers etc. helps immensely.
February 5, 201510 yr If you play the computer and button bash or even stick to a few moves then every Mortal Kombat from 2 onwards then after the second opponent it will catch on and do you in (unless you play on beginner of course). However if you go back and play the very first game, then you could just move to the corner of the screen, jump up and down and wait for the computer to come over like a numpty and then kick him in the head. This worked on EVERY character including the big bad Goro. If you played multiplayer then there used to be three types of people - one who constantly jumped and kicked, one who stayed low, blocked and then upper-cutted people and the third was someone who spammed a certain special move (Liu Kang's fireballs, Scorpion's spear and Sub Zero's freeze) when you played against them If you play against experienced people online since the advent of online gaming, then more often then not they will have some kind of strategy for dealing with certain characters so it helps to know a few characters quite well.
February 6, 201510 yr Cheers, think my favourite is the guy who shoots thunder (Raiden?), I like Scorpion too with his "get over here!". Edited February 6, 201510 yr by Jamster26
February 6, 201510 yr I've only just watched that Reptile video with the sound on. It's awesome. Especially the beginning. "I have no quarrel with you" "I WILL TEAR YOUR FLESH!!" "I have a quarrel." :lol
February 6, 201510 yr Cheers, think my favourite is the guy who shoots thunder (Raiden?), I like Scorpion too with his "get over here!". Sub Zero was a blue one, Scorpion was a yellow one and Reptile was a green one I think, but in the original game(s) Reptile was like a bonus character. I always liked Scorpion as well, even though his best asset was basically a lasso which, when used, allowed you a free punch in the gob :lol. I think my favourite characters were Sonya and Johnny Cage. Sonya had that handstand thing which was amazing, and Johnny-Boy did the splits and punched you in the nuts. Happy days. Cheers!
February 6, 201510 yr Author I've only just watched that Reptile video with the sound on. It's awesome. Especially the beginning. "I have no quarrel with you" "I WILL TEAR YOUR FLESH!!" "I have a quarrel." :lol I didn't see that coming at all. Boy, how I lol'd. :lol
February 7, 201510 yr Sub Zero was a blue one, Scorpion was a yellow one and Reptile was a green one I think, but in the original game(s) Reptile was like a bonus character. I always liked Scorpion as well, even though his best asset was basically a lasso which, when used, allowed you a free punch in the gob :lol. Reptile wasn't quite a bonus character, he was a bonus fight. In the single player mode, you had to perform a double flawless victory on the moonlit bridge followed by an uppercut instead of a fatality as this would caused you opponent to go up into the air and then down onto the spikes below. After this a bonus fight would start between you and Reptile, who looked just like a green Sub Zero, in amongst the spikes below the bridge because, apparently, Reptile lived there. But even if you defeated him, he wouldn't unlock for your use. Also yes Jamster, Raiden was the God of Thunder and shoot lightening bolts and dived across the screen when you pressed <--, --> on the SNES version of Mortal Kombat screaming like a nutter as he did so.
