This is back on tonight...
This kinda snuck up on me. Didnt realise til yesterday that this was back. Not much fanfare about it as far as I am aware. Although I rarely watch live TV anymore.

Just finished the 1st episode. Really enjoyed it actually. I dodnt enjoy much of the last series as was sick of clara.

The dr i like capaldi and it was a big episode to kick off the new series with.

The problem with Clara is that she is under developed by the writers, they have a good actress and under utilising her.

Plus every time Michelle Gomez turns up being, well Michelle Gomez she just blows everyone away.

Strong opening to the series and a lot of of interesting things could come out of it seen as we knew the Doctor needs a new companion with Coleman leaving... Could it be River Song, could it be Maisie Williams? What do you all think?

Even after posting the reminder, I forgot about it! :-O

Watched it on iplayer, thought it was a great start. The opening scene with the hand mines was nicely done I thought. Colony Sarff was a great addition too, very creepy. I love Missy so it was good to see her back. I'm still not 100% on Capaldi, I preferred Tennant and Smith, he's a great actor but I'm not enjoying him as The Doctor like I did with the other 2.

It seems to have done well with the critics:

"We're now in the ninth series in 11 years since Doctor Who's revival, and it shows no sign of fatigue. The first episode rattles along with barely a bum note," wrote Patrick Mulkern in his review.

Catherine Gee in The Telegraph described the opening episodes as "packed full of jaw-droppers, one whopper of a cliffhanger and nerdy nods that date back to the time of Tom Baker."

Jim Shelly from the Daily Mail said "Doctor Who was ridiculously good - a sharp, fast, thrilling, piece of historic, futuristic, television: the BBC at its best. The new series opened with an exhilaratingly imaginative episode that saw the Doctor travelling from an 1138 AD axe fight to a re-built Planet Skaro - a masterclass in giving fans a combination of exactly what they wanted and the totally unexpected."

Unfortunately the ratings didn't fair so well, courtesy of the BBC:

Viewers in their millions deserted Doctor Who as it returned to BBC One for a new series, according to overnight figures.

An average 4.6m watched Peter Capaldi back for his second series playing the Time Lord, compared with 6.8m for his full debut last year.

It was roundly beaten by ITV's X Factor, which had 7.3 million viewers.

Thoughts on 2nd episode? I really enjoyed it. Although the 'sonic' sunglasses was a good one off idea but shouldnt stay as thats just ridiculas. We know he will get the screwdriver back from the episode in the library with River and she has his final 'tricked out' sonic screwdriver.

Loved the story though and the whole arc of the double episode. Hopefully the series will continue just as strongly.

Have a horrible feeling that the glasses may be sticking around, unless merchandising have gotten involved.

Did'nt think the 2nd episode was as good as the first, just all felt a bit predictable.

Michelle Gomez still the best thing about it.

Gomez is brilliant! :lovesign:

I enjoyed the episode, good start, have to say I'm warming more to Capaldi after these 2 episodes, more than any of the previous season.

There seemed to be quite a few seeds planted for the future too, I'm looking forward to see how things progress.

Last nights episode continued this series run of good form.

The move to 2 parters has seemingly helped the pacing. Looking forward to next weeks episode.

I enjoyed the episode but not as much as the first 2 episodes. I keep thinking about the lack of screwdriver. There was a reason he didnt have it in the 1st 2 eps (he gave it to Davros) but this episode he only used his sonic sunglasses once. They need to bring it back. There was no explanation as to what he was doing with the sunglasses either. I am enjoying this series though.

I really enjoyed it, thought it was a nice follow up after the first 2. I wasn't expecting it to be another 2 parter so that ending was a surprise. Looking forward to seeing more.
Good episode tonight. Still dislike the glasses. This was the episode which had corey taylor (slipknot singer) doing the fisher kings scream. Will the next episode be a 2 parter?

According to to the Sypnosis the next 2 are not exactly a 2 parter but they're undoubtly linked in someway.

Next weeks episode is titled The girl who died and the week after is titled The girl who lived.

The next 2 episodes are also the Masie Williams episodes.

They was a looser connection between the two in comparison with the other two part episodes but I would still consider those last two as a two parter as well.

I thought as well they where amazing and will lead to something else down the road, probably in series 10 when Maisie is done filming for the next Game of Thrones season. I don't think she will be the new companion as everybody was hoping for before the season started given the way these last two episodes have panned out but I do think she will return.

Wouldn't it be mental if she turned out to be Cassandra? I doubt she will but it would be a great link in the continuity of the show and possible given that Captain Jack is the Face of Bo.

Speaking of continuity, I like the fact they explained why the Doctor choose his current form, flashbacking to the Ninth Doctor to explain - nice touch.

But for me, as good as this season has been, I'm sad because in about four episodes time there is going to be no more Clara. They have written for her far better this year, given her more purpose, actually made the bond stronger and I'll be sad to see her and Jenna Coleman go. Robb Stark you're a lucky man damn you.

I always thought he couldn't choose his form, hence the surprise about what he looks like after each regeneration and the "still not ginger" comment.

They tried to paint it as a subconscious choice, that he can't knowingly choose what he looks like but instead, in this case, a vision from his past seeped through and his body choose that form so that when he looked in the mirror he'd remember people he'd lost or could have done more to save...

Case in point, when he left Pompeii to burn and Donna cried her arse off at him. That Doctor was too concerned with the ripples in time, this Doctor on the other hand is prepared to break the rules because he is tired of losing people and seeking of seeing death all around him or as he and Maisie both put it, people passing by through his life "like wisps of smoke"

If I remember correctly, a Time Lord can choose his/her form if they have time to prepare. Romana at one point was shown to try different forms before settling on one during a regeneration. But because The Doctor doesn't regenerate until he immediately has to its a subconscious choice.
I watched 'The girl who died' last night and really enjoyed it. I was marking out when the sunglasses were broken. Then I saw the 'Next Time' and saw he was wearing them again. Enjoyed the episode and hope Maisie Williams makes a few more appearances around her GoT commitments.

Just watched the latest episode and YAY!!!!! It looks like the finale is going to be a 3 parter. More maisie williams and (for those who havent seen it yet) the person who the raven takes is gone!!!!

Brilliant episode.

Yes and I will miss them forever.

It was a good episode but now we get to see the Doctor in the next episode have to face something truly evil by himself, something this incarnation of the Doctor has never had to do yet.
